Hi Tanya, I really enjoy your videos. I find them very easy to follow and informative. I am having a problem with my Firestick 4k not recognizing my usb flash drive. I have used two different OTG connectors and three different usb flash drives and my firestick does not recognize them. I have followed your instructions by formatting each of the drives to fat32. I have also checked all connections, restarted my firestick by unplugging it and after it starts then connecting the usb flash drive. It does not recognize it. I am at wits end! @@FireTVSticks Hi Tanya, Thank you for responding to my issue. I am using SanDisk USB drive. Since my message to you I went back through every step again. I think the problem was I put in a wrong number when going through the shell process. The USB drive now works! I used the Xplore to move several applications to the USB drive successfully. The storage on my Firestick has increased considerably as a result. When viewing Manage applications it indicates those applications are in the USB drive. However, strangely the Firestick does not indicate the USB drive in my Firestick storage. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as it is working. Thank you again, Tanya, for your videos. You do a very thorough job in explaining details and giving very clear instructions. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! Jack

Fire TV devices use the FAT32 file system, which has a maximum file size limit of 4 GB. However, the exception is the 3rd Gen Fire TV Cube - amzn.to/3HxZqoK. It has a full-sized USB port and supports USB drives formatted as NTFS (max size 256 TB). This means that files larger than 4GB are supported.

You can fix this issue by one of 2 ways: 1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST. 2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Then when everything has loaded back up, plug your external memory in. One of these methods should resolve this for you. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. Bought the UGREEN adapter but it's not getting any power when I plugged it in as you suggested with the OTG cable. Plugged it into my laptop and the power light came on and it worked. I guess I'm stuffed on this one.

When the UGREEN is used with the Firestick, are you powering the Firestick via a power outlet (rather than a USB port on the TV)? I have found recently with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max in particular that the light does not come on right away with the UGREEN Multi USB Hub. However, after waiting a few minutes, the light does come on. You can also try giving each connection a little wiggle - it sounds daft, but this can help to reset the link and make the power light come on.

Can you use an external hdd larger than a 2tb? I'm wanting to rip all my DVD and blue-ray movies to a hard drive for easier access and to save the disc's. Only thing 2tb is no where big enough.

Not using this method, no, as the Firestick only supports up to 2TB because it has to be formatted to FAT32, which has limitations. E.g. FAT32 only supports file sizes up to 4GB. There are several solutions, though. First, you can get a NAS attached to your router, and then media files can be accessed from the NAS on your Firestick using a media player such as VLC or Kodi. Or, save the ripped files to your computer and share the folder/drive on your internal network. So long as your computer and Firestick are connected to the same home network, again, you can use a media player such as VLC or Kodi to access the files on the shared folder on your computer. Or, create your own Plex home media server. Sorry, I don't have any videos on how to do any of this. Hope it helps point you in the right direction, though!

@@FireTVSticks hi there, thanks for getting back, I'm using the original adapter for the firestick 4k, and the HDD is just a cheap one from China not a known brand, work's great without Bluetooth headset,but with WiFi, Bluetooth earphones and running HDD it's like it crashes sometimes, I have to reboot,it looks like a power supply issue 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

I've tried everything. xplore does not recognize my external storage. it is formatted to FAT32 through the app AOMEI. Ive tried the OG cable as well as the small adapter. Not working. it also cuts off my ethernet cable and forces me to use WIFI. Please help.

Yes. If it is formatted to FAT32, you can attach it to the USB port on the back on the Fire Cube with an OTG cable or adapter. You will also need a separate power supply to plug into the OTG cable/adapter. The Fire Cube should then recognise the storage and automatically ask if you want to use this SSD as additional storage. Hi, Tanya. I am having an issue with the Firestick 4K not being able to run the 2T external hard drive. The Firestick 4K is plugged into the wall, and the external drive is connected via an OTG cable. However, when the external drive is connected, the firestick is stuck in a constant state of rebooting. It simply will not start up. If I detach the external drive, firestick boots up normally. I am currently connected to a 128g thumb drive for extra external space, and that seems to work just fine. I would like to upgrade to the 2T external drive, but apparently I need help. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Yes, as mentioned in the troubleshooting tips 7:33 Troubleshooting it sounds like a power issue. Are you using the original power cable and plug that was supplied with your Firestick? If your 2TB hard drive has a port for power, you should connect an external power supply.
