We will have to see my guess is where the gas Extender will play the biggest part is in towing range
@RealElectechАй бұрын
Range extender will likely mean a smaller battery and engine running more often to even get to 350 miles, none the less the 500. Personally I'd rather have the low maintenance and advantages of a full EV. I'm not an overlander.

@patmendoza9945 I've never owned and ev, but I disagree. 350 is not that far, especially if towing or not ideal conditions.

These things look fantastic. These basically seem to address almost every issue I have with the Rivians. Physical controls, a proper gauge cluster, a more reasonable bed length on the truck, solid axles, 350KW charging, bidirectional power, and even a range extender! They wont be cheap, but if you were already looking to spend Rivian money these look SUPER compelling. Every other off-road brand needs to take notice.

Agree. I would actually consider this if it came with a gas version. I like the look better than the Ford Bronco or the Jeep Gladiator. EV's are not really an option here in Pennsylvania Appalachia. Need to cross a few mountains to go anywhere and the cold weather will really cut down the advertised range. Also EVs aren't great off-roaders due to their heavy weight...just glamorized grocery-getters. A gas version would cut the price by $20K too. It's a shame. Would've really liked to see an off-road capable Scout reboot.
@Luka_3D23 күн бұрын
@@country_intuitionWell they do give you a range extender which lets you basically run it like a gas car if you really want to. Drop in a few extra jerry cans in the back and you got even more range. On top of that, since it's an ev you can regen brake down the mountain and get some of the energy back. Other than that, EVs are great offroad. Rivian was especially praised for it's rock climbing ability since you've got a motor on every individual wheel
@davidmeyer6389Ай бұрын

As someone who's owned a couple of pickups now, I can definitely say having a bed AND a lockable trunk space is pretty nice. Because normally, you either have an open bed that functions like a real bed for oversized things, or you convert your bed into a giant lockable trunk (either a camper shell or tonneau) and lose the ability to move fridges and couches with it. I bolted a lockable tool box into the bed of my old truck to have a bit of both, but I still had to sacrifice bed space for it. This new Terra is looking pretty attractive to me.

@loganghiringhelli504Ай бұрын
Taking an energy source and converting it to another energy source is very inefficient. It should either be a standard plug in hybrid or just EV. The RAV4 Prime has a “charge” mode where you can simultaneously watch your 30mpg 4 cylinder gas engine charge the battery as your mpg average plummets to the low 20’s. I’d use this setting while driving from Truckee (starting at Boreal Ski resort) to Roseville in California because it’s almost all downhill. It’s an 83 mile drive total and the charge mode (with no load on the engine and a lot of regenerative breaking aka ideal circumstances) would add like 15 miles of range (roughly 1/3 of the 100% charged prime battery) to the charge, and it would not be a true 15 miles of range. Might be different with a larger capacity battery but idk.
@loganghiringhelli504Ай бұрын
Long story short the charge mode turned a gallon of gas in an engine that gets 20-35mpg into 15 miles of electric charge.
@mack73Ай бұрын
You can buy it without the range extender. But if you actually want to take this offroad like the market its aimed at - the range extender is a fantastic solution to.... well I'm out in the woods, got lost for an hour and now I can't get home. Wish I could just put 5 gallons in it....This pushes the market to solve for the overlander/off roader who's needs haven't been met yet. And the Terra addresses the biggest issue with a EV truck and a lack of range when towing. If I can just keep throwing gas at it I can do the occasional long tow and ditch an ICE truck

@@himalayanknight8 You clearly don't understand EVs. You can use the power more readily than any ICE motor...it's like having a big block motor in your SUV with loads of torque but no lumpiness or unevenness in the throttle. There is no torque curve like you get on ICE engine -- it's just immediate, linear power that, parenthetically, is exactly what you want off road.
