@@Rabs73 two very different drivetrains, will be really interesting to see how it performs when it arrives. I think it'll sell like hot cakes. The 4x4 ute has become Australias most wanted segment, and soooo many will never tow anything, just family off to Bunnings or IKEA. This will be amazing for that, and the commute to work. IMO, all cars should be hybrids as minimum, it's just a waste of resources to dump all that energy in the brakes as heat. Even if the drive train, like on the Ranger Raptor I have, is made for performance, a very light hybrid could change the economy significantly. So the total range (battery plus petrol) in the presentation that the engineer showed, was 800km from a 60 litre tank. So if you consider the quoted electric only range is 100km then the vehicle is getting 700km on petrol. This is a fuel consumption of 8.57l/100km. Is that high for a 2.5T ute? I had hoped a hybrid may have been able to achieve better. You would certainly be trying to maximise your EV running and the Shark6 allows you to do that day to day.

That is definitely the key to making this Ute as economical as possible … trying to run on the traction battery for day to day urban use as much as possible

Nice walk in the morning perfect time for it as well. The Shark sounds like it is a serial hybrid where the engine never powers the wheels directly like the Holden Volt. Unfortunate it's not pure electric or give an option for pure electric at least. I suspect that other EV pickup trucks like the F150 lightning and some of the others have better frunk and better V2L. Why does BYD continue offering USB-A when many of their competitors are doing USB-C only now, being as it is 2024 drop the USB-A and replace them. I'm assuming the range is NEDC so about 50km real-world EV only range?

The Shark did seem to do pretty well, but I would have loved to see a more comprehensive test of things like traction control and differential locks with respect to off-road capability. For example, what does the vehicle do when there are only three wheels on the ground? What about when you only have two wheels on the ground? While that may sound pretty extreme, it is not exactly an uncommon situation on moderately tricky 4WD tracks.

Yup it was a reasonable introduction on the controlled course. I’m sure further specialised testing will be performed by 4x4 enthusiasts once it launches in Australia

I don't know who they were talking to about towing and payload but they got it way wrong. Its the biggest letdown of the car. It really should be minimum 3t and 1t payload.

That’s the impression I also get when talking to those in the know

You could drive a 2wd ute down that dirt track

It's not super off-road of course but apparently BYD have done more intense testing in Australia so they tell us

Doesnt mattrr is on Electric or hybrid..u are driving it on electricity all the time..the Engine here act as a power generator to pump electric back into the battery.
@LudicrousFeedАй бұрын
Yes that’s the case in the Series hybrid mode. Apparently DM can also allow the engine to power front motors in parallel if required

790kg payload and 2500kg towing is going to limit its appeal to caravan owners. Take to adults plus 10% tow get for towball download plus lever from ball to rear axle wil leave very little payload for toys.
@LudicrousFeedАй бұрын
Yup but for the majority of users I think it should suffice and is a good start

Do BYD cars give statistics on how much much charge it has recieved per month? For shared households where bills a split.

That’s one department that BYD is deficient in … charging stats

But what will their resale value be and what type of condition will they be in. China is having problems with vehicles EV catching fire
@thearlongparkАй бұрын
Those batteries fire from a decade old EV with completely different battery design. They never exported those EVs.
@ensteffoАй бұрын
No China does not have a problem with vehicles EV catching fire. China have a problem with anti Chinese propagandists like captain apartheid and various falun gong linked channels fabricating propaganda videos to smear Chinese EV manufacturing and then people repeating the propaganda they have been indoctrinated with.
