I was so tired on my first wild camp adventure that I didn't even had time to be worried, I just got inside the sleeping bag and in less than 10 seconds I fell asleep, and then I never really worried anymore about being alone in the dark in the middle of nowhere. In fact I liked it so much this year I went on a 3 month wild camp journey, arrived home a week ago.
@anthonyclark7253 жыл бұрын
Well done for taking yourself out of your comfort zone Grace. I guarantee that you are perfectly safe when wild camping in the UK. There's nothing scary out there. The only threat comes from the weather, especially the wind and that's where having the best gear pays for itself but you will learn that over time. Just a small tip about choosing a flat enough spot to pitch which was taught to me many years ago: It sounds simplistic but it works. When you think you've found the right spot take your pack off and lie down on the grass in different positions. You will know instantly if any slight slope is tolerable. Keep up the adventures and embrace being out of your comfort zone. That's when you're most alive.
@douglasfreeman32292 жыл бұрын
I started by buying really good gear. Glad I did. We've been caught out by bad weather twice wild-camping on Dartmoor and had to pitch very quickly because visibility just disappeared. I figured buying good equipment would be cheaper than constantly upgrading everything. Your tip about lying on the ground is a good one. We do this, but we lay the groundsheet down first to avoid getting muddy and wet when we test for flatness. Wild-camping is a wonderful adventure. Tiring, but very rewarding.

In the past, I’ve spent a few nights sliding around in my tent. However, I now take with me a small amount of IKEA rubber matting that you normally put under a rug on a hard floor. It comes in a roll and it’s cheap and lightweight and you can cut it to size so that it goes between your inflatable mat and the tent floor. You only need a piece a bit shorter than your back length. No more waking up with your face pressed against the side of the tent or with your feet sticking out of the bottom.

Fun video - no mention of your safety kit and measures - I.e. your late back, FA kit, head torch, emergency rations, full navigation, spare layers - important to share if you’re going to post vids about this sort of stuff, people are rescued every day without proper kit or training

Hi Hannah, this was a brief kit run through and yes intended as a fun video not a safety video - that is something I plan on doing some day but once I have a bit more experience and feel like I’m justified to give guidance on that. Thanks for your comment.
