So fun fact about this one, in 2009 this became the number one Christmas Song in the UK. The reason behind it was that X Factor always won that title every year so the band started an online petition to vote this song as the number one instead just to have something other than X Factor at the top of the charts. So this is technically a Christmas song in the UK.
@karlgrylls2406
@karlgrylls2406 5 жыл бұрын
correct, but the petition was started by a couple that wanted to get rid of the stupid "tradition" of X Factor being Nr. 1 for Christmas. And so many people downloaded this old as the hills song (it's more than 20 years old), that they beat the commerce-machine

Nah, RATM didn't do the D-X theme. That was an in-house WWE group called The Chris Warren Band. They also did Triple H's original theme (before Motorhead did 'The Game') and they were pretty much specifically told to make a "Rage Against The Machine-like" song. These guys are largely responsible for a seismic shift in the metal scene at the time. Upon it's release in 1991) metal and rap were stilll pretty much exclusive. Besides a few collabs like Aerosmith & Run DMC's "Walk This Way", and the year prior's Anthrax & Public Enemy's "Bring The Noise" (definitely worth your time), the two genres were kept separate. This was the start of rock/rap becoming less of a novelty one-off and more of a legit genre. By 1990, Thrash Metal (which was metal's most popular style then) was on the way out - it' had gone as fast and extreme as it could get without becoming a parody of itself and metal needed something different to reinvigorate itself. At the time, there was just as much backlash as there was support - a large portion of people were very much in the "this is NOT metal!" camp and couldn't see that change and evolution was going to pass them by. RATM were one of the direct ancestors of the nu-metal explosion in the late 90s (individual mileage may vary on whether or not that's a good thing), but no matter which side of the divide you fall on, no one can deny that they were a direct injection of something never heard before and Rob's right in that rock was the rebellion against society, then rap came out as the new version of that, so what's next Joining the two together, of course. I was 16 when this song came out and holy shit - it was a 5-minute adrenaline shot of righteous fury. Just so you know, the singer (Zach De La Rocha) is still active and the guy can spit fire when it comes to rap - check out his feature on Run The Jewels' "Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)" or "Kill Your Masters". He's surprisingly good.

Jerry is on point with the DX theme comparison. The old DX theme is modeled straight after RATM's style, it's not RATM but it was intentional for it to be like them because of DX's rebellious gimmick. Bombtrack or Bullet in the Head next. Both some wild lyrical flow that you guys will appreciate, much more so than Killing. Pay attention to the lyrics if you hit those two, it's some deep shit that's eternally relevant.

I've seen these guys twice in concert. They're incredible live. Lots of loud, politically charged music that gets you going. On a side note, back when this came out in the early nineties, I shared my tape with a coworker, who then shared it with his little brother. Later when his brother was getting in trouble with their mother, he yelled at her "FUCK YOU! I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!" I laughed hard over that.

For one of your rock reactions you should check out some artist from the “Nu-Metal” genre. A good place to start would be the bands: “Korn”, “Deftones” or “Limp Bizkit”. Nu-Metal has an interesting rap and rock mixed together sound. I think that you and the viewers would be surprised at the sounds of these groups. Some good songs to start off with (that have actual music videos) would probably be Korn - “Got The Life” or “Freak on a Leash”, Deftones - “You’ve seen the Butcher” or “Digital Bath”, Limp Bizkit - “Break Stuff” or “N 2 Gether Now”. And as always, keep up the great work, I love your channel!! ✊🏽🙏🏽✌🏽♥️

Why always this one for everybody's first Rage reaction? This song is good and all but there are way better Rage songs. Do Bombtrack or Bulls On Parade or Freedom or Know Your Enemy or People of the Sun. Definitely Bombtrack...it starts off their first album and it's blistering and awesome.

I got to see rage on their first tour in a tiny 500 seat club called Peabody's down under in the flats, Cleveland Ohio! They opened for crowbar! Great show. My friends parents owned the club and we got to go to any shows we wanted to and in return we would help out a little bit, clean up here and there,help bands load and unload, whatever they asked it didn't matter,I was loving every second of it. A band I loved would be playing and I could go for free,get there at 4:00 and help bands unload,some had Roadies some didn't like Weezer,but appreciated the help. Then we could watch them sound check,imagine being one of two people standing there watching rage,or Weezer,Pearl jam,Bush, parliament funkadelic,green day,just to name a few,play two or three songs and your just sitting on the side of the stage with nobody else around other than my Friend and the few people who worked there. It was incredible,these bands are all huge now but back then it seemed like Peabody's had this awesome luck of booking bands who starting to get noticed but by the time it got to their show at Peabody's they had exploded onto the scene. Rivers from weezer was appologetic asking if we could help load their gear, meanwhile I would have paid him to carry their stuff out to the bus. He gave us autographed lp sleeves of the blue album and a plate of cheese and Ritz crackers,some cokes and t- shirts. Man I miss those days,but I got to see who some of these guys really were like.weezer,as nice as could be,bush, everyone cool except Gavin rossdale,total ass hole.pearl jam all nice but Billie Joe from Green day was the biggest asshole I've ever met.the " backstage " area was just the upstairs if the place.a few small rooms and bathrooms,and he popped wheelies on a bike and smashed holes in all the walls upstairs. Just trashed the place. And all the bands that had played there always autographed or wrote something on the walls,and I mean all the way back to Todd rundgren,U2, and others back when the club opened to the current groups going thru. Those walls should have been on display at the Rock hall down the road. And he trashed them all. Rage were all cool especially Tom Morello but after all my rambling,Zach de la Rocha is exactly the same in person as what you see on stage
