The backstory behind this performance is that Sohyang was suffering from a severe bout of pneumonia when she went on stage. She was warned that singing that night might permanently damage her voice but felt like she couldn’t let everyone down by not performing. For two years after she hardly picked up a mic. The good news is that she has come back and is singing better than ever. Heard you mention the comparison to Whitney. React to Sohyangs cover of I Have Nothing from the DMC festival from 2015. She has some absolutely brilliant performances on the BEGIN AGAIN outdoor concert series that she did during COVID with some brilliant young up and coming ARTISTS like LEE SUHYUN, LEE HI, HENRY JUW etc, her cover of an old classic called MISTY, a song called DAY DAY which was a collaboration with all the BEGIN AGAIN crew,, she's a 45yr old diamond who just gets better with age, there's only her and MORISSETTE AMON LAMAR from the Philippines that i only really listen too, nothing else appeals to me 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.

No matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. You can tie your behind to a piano and it will prove futile because Sohyang's performance will literally suck you into the emotion and power she exudes, piano and all! She is the most magical singer I have come across in my entire six and one half decades on this planet. Sohyang is a once in a lifetime singer. The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh? The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to _really_ pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message. Other than this one performance, we know of only two other times Sohyang has performed this rendition of "You Raise Me Up," both in 2018. When she changes key there a couple of times near the end of the song and belts those high notes so powerfully, you expect her to actually lift off the stage and go into orbit! Yes, Sohyang is famous for throwing in everything and leaving it all on the stage--including the kitchen sink! I'm a huge Whitney Houston fan and I saw her live in the UK 1980's, but Whitney could only dream hitting some of the notes that Sohyang hits. Sohyang's song 'Everyone' is an absolute emotional masterpiece. Josh Groban is not the original artist. It was originally recorded by Secret Garden, an Irish-Norwegian band (duo). Sohyang's cover is an homage to the original, which has Irish folk sounds and a bit of gospel at the end. Sohyang just took it to another level.

Sohyang has done two Whitney songs. "I have Nothing" DMC festival. And she also did "I Will Always Love You" on Begin Again Korea. Both are spectacular and well worth reacting to. The second is actually a Dolly Parton song but Whitney had a big hit with it and most people think of Whitney when they hear it.

This performance nearly ended the singing career of the PHENOMENAL So Hyang. She battled severe pneumonia eight times between 2016 - 2020. During her cancer surgery, she needed a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, the blood was contaminated and she developed Hepatitis B or C. Her compromised immune system has made her susceptible to pneumonia. So Hyang was readmitted to the hospital after this event.

So Hyang was recovering from a bout of pneumonia. Last video we mentioned she is a cancer survivor and I see you asked why she had pneumonia so much. When she was diagnosed with early stage ovarian cancer she underwent an operation to remove tumors at just 20/21 (this left her sterile also) and she contracted hepatitis through the the blood used, it is the hepatitis that gives her repeated bouts of pneumonia.
