It is almost criminal that they are not world famous because they are as good as anything that ever existed in the genre. I've seen some great stuff. I've seen Tipton and Downing live decades ago, and these women are right there with them. They have a new bassist as far as I know because they have said on twitter that they were done with final auditions , but not made any announcements yet. There are no losers in Lovebites tracks. Some are better than others, and personal tastes vary, but they don't do mediocre.

It is criminal I agree. This talent is World Class. No language barriers here. The music speaks too everyone. Sadly our Western Metal scene seems primarily interested in guttural vocals or Scremo type acts. They completely ignore Power Metal with pristeen vocals. Even Night Wish gets little Western air play. Thank God many of us on YT and FB have been street team promoting them. Sadly we have low standards in our Western Corporate acts. This shit would literally be above 80% of artists who play on the radios heads quite frankly.

Japanese are risk averse, but in this business, you gotta take risks or nothing will ever happen. If Megadeth took Lovebites on tour with them, no doubt those crowds would go ape-shit for Lovebites. The Chopin piece performed by Miyako (guitar/keyboard) as the intro is "Etude OP10, No12", known as "Revolution Etude" In 1831, an uprising of some officers and civilians against the Polish government under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, dubbed the "November Revolution", failed due to the direct intervention of Russian forces. Chopin is informed of this news during his travels. he lost his place to return to. When the Russian army invaded Warsaw, Chopin's agents released "Etude OP10, No.12" in Paris. People called it a "revolutionary etude" because of the agent's exaggerated promotion of the song. Miyako composed "SwanSong" with reference to this "revolutionary etude" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony". Former ballerina Asami (vocals) wrote a poem inspired by Norse mythology and "Swan Lake" based on the historical background of "Revolutionary Etude". "SwanSong" is a requiem dedicated to the warriors who fought to reclaim fatherland, a masterpiece that only LOVEBITES can complete. LB's songs will give you new discoveries and surprises with each song.
@pohojisan12872 жыл бұрын
In the "Swan Song", Miyako is playing the "Revolution" etude on piano in the Chopin intro, but that is an arrangement that omits the middle part of the original. That middle part is especially famous for its great activity of the left hand, and she uses a melody arranged by developing the theme of that part in her guitar solo.
@PaulEMoz2 жыл бұрын
The Chopin intro is not actually part of the song; it's not on the album version of the track. It's more of an opportunity to use the piano more on stage, seeing as they have it there, and to give Miyako a solo spotlight on an instrument she has clearly mastered, but doesn't get to play much during a concert. EDIT: and yes, she plays the piano backing part too. They do use some backing tracks for parts that can't be played live - for instance, unless she had four arms, Miyako couldn't play all the piano and guitar parts together!
@skoob642 жыл бұрын
I think you can hear a reference to the Chopin piece in the opening of Miyako's first solo.
@Patrick_H.2 жыл бұрын
The Chopin intro was relevant to the song though, because the arpeggios during the Chorus and Miyako's outro are from a piece known as Ocean (rising and falling waves) from Chopin's 2nd book of 'training' Etudes (the Intro is last Etude in the first book). The names Ocean and Revolutionary (Intro) Etude were not given by Chopin himself - he refused to 'name' any of his compositions other than what kind of piece it was and the key it was in, like 'Sonata in C# Minor'.
@CaffeineNightOwl2 жыл бұрын
the finale and the song (backtrack) are inspired by chopins "ocean etude", the last etude from "12 etudes op.25", the opening is the last etude from "12 etudes op. 10, called the "revolutionary", elements from that one are in miyakos solo. it belongs to the song and is not "just an opportunity to use the piano more".

Miyako is a genius on another level than most of her contemporaries and Midori is the double and triple picking Goddess of Tastefull yet spectacular shred. Haruna is a Master percussionist period. Thank you for your reaction! 1. "Etude Op.10, No.12" by the great Polish composer Frederic Chopin, which was written in 1831 and is dedicated to the Polish patriots who raised an uprising (1830-1831) against the Russian Empire, whose troops occupied Poland; 2. "Swan song" ( lyrics - Asami , music -Miyako) from the third album LOVEBITES "Electric Pentagram" (2020). For many centuries (starting from Ancient Greece) there is a legend, according to which swans, non-singing, "silent" birds, acquire a voice a few moments before death, and this dying singing of swans is amazingly beautiful. "Etude" by F. Chopin and "Swan Song" are dedicated to the warriors who died in battle. Therefore, at the concert, "Etude" and "Swan Song" are played together. In an interview given after the release of the "Electric Pentagram" album, Asami said that when she wrote the lyrics of the song, she was thinking about the famous ballet P.I. Tchaikovsky "Swan Lake". During the final part (piano Miyako), symbolizing the death of the Swan, Asami (a former ballerina, studied classical ballet for about 16 years before becoming a singer) depicts a dying Swan on stage as in ballet "Swan Lake". Since the camera at the end of the song is focused on Miyako, Asami's "death of the Swan" did not frame.

This is the big reaction I’ve been waiting to see from you. I’m also a musician and I still get goosebumps every time I watch Lovebites perform this masterpiece. A few observations and concurrences. As far as I can tell, the Chopin Intro by Miyako is almost note for note accurate. This piece by Frederic Chopin is very difficult and totally exercises the left hand which is usually used to play the lower register accompaniment to the right hand’s higher register melody. It almost makes me wonder if Herr Frederic was a left handed piano player. Yes, Miyako not only recorded the piano backing track inserted at strategic points, but except for the classical intro and the outro , she composed the main body of Swan Song and interwove elements from both classical pieces into the uplifting theme of the song. The outro is another classical piece that Miyako used as a fitting end to this awesome blend of metal music presented in a delicious sandwich of classical piano music. I read somewhere that Asami (vocalist) wrote the lyrics to Swan Song. Led Zeppelin may have their Stairway to Heaven but they can play Lovebites’ Swan Song at my funeral and I will enjoy a few final goosebumps. Final note, it was inevitable that this level of musical talent and awesomeness would come out of Japan. For decades Japan school system has valued musical education. Geeky little school children carrying their violins, flutes, and other instruments to and from school has long been an image often admired and ridiculed by western society (they’re not laughing now). Combine that with the fact that Japanese culture is a male dominated society where the men are expected to work and the women are expected to serve and entertain, and you end up in this situation where women have become the dominant force in their musical entertainment industry, and they most certainly have become a force with which to be reckoned. Lovebites!
@Patrick_H.2 жыл бұрын
Spot On with the value of Real music education! A lot of those kids put away the violins and flutes and purchase guitars, basses, and drum kits when they reach high school and join a Music Club, and form bands. After 5-10 years, the ones who are Talented and Committed have become parts of the amazing bands we are listening to now. Some of the younger bands like Hagane, Hanabie, and Trident are really doing some cool 'crossover' stuff and playing mix-and-match with genres During their songs - which I find very progressive and exciting. I think that part was pioneered by groups like Band Maid and Gacharic Spin over the last decade or so.

I just came from your other reaction to a new band for you, so please forgive me for being a coming late. Yes, Haruna is a killer drummer. Midori and Miyako are amongst the best guitarists in the world. Asami comes from an R&B background, which is my second most favorite genre to Metal. Yes the backing track on the piano was preformed by Miyako. I love Midori and Miyako and would prefer not to compare their guitar work, but they both started with classical piano, but Miyako stayed with it longer and is a fan of Electric Blues. They are all insanely talented, but have different skills. You mentioned, or reacted to a couple of bands in the Japanese Metal world. Let me give you a couple of side notes. Miyako is apparently close friends with Saki from Nemophila as they exchange birthday gifts. Midori is a fan of Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus from Babymetal. Mr. Ohmura is/was an instructor at the Musician Institute of Japan, Osaka campus. His mentor; Mikio Fujioka was was also an instructor who authored many publications before his untimely passing (RIP). Of course he was also from Babymetal. Midori also attended the very same institute, but I don’t know the specifics of any interactions. Saki is also a fan of BM and NP did a cover of one of their songs. I’m a huge fan of all these Japanese Metal groups, including Band-Maid (B-M). It appears that you like Thrash Metal as I do. I might suggest you dive into LB and NP more before attempting to react to BM. Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m a big BM fan, but they are a fusion band that isn’t just Thrash Metal. @@massivemetalreactions Well thank you for the upcoming reactions. Seriously, I absolutely love all of these groups and Babymetal is my favorite, but please let us help you. This group is is the closest thing to schizophrenic of any metal group on the planet in a loving way. Their musicians are the best on the planet, but are simply session musicians for this group. The group was formed around the vocals of the lead singer with backing vocalists and dancers to the group. The whole concept came about by their producer, who is a long time metalhead by one of the largest talent agencies in Japan who thought the Metal genre was dying. I happen to agree, but his vision was to combine the mainstream J-Pop with Metal, 12 years ago. He was correct. It shouldn’t have worked, but it does! If you simply like Power Metal to Death Metal then Babymetal isn’t for you. Please don’t misunderstand me. They have are Metal, but also have a lot of poppier, flamingo, Bollywood, Viking, than you might like. That’s not to mention that the group is formed around the vocalist (best in the world) with dance, which there is a cultural aspect to. I can explain. Look I love this group, but if you want to try this path please, please let us help you. It is far too easy to get lost, or on the wrong path. If I may add, all of these groups from Japan that you are reacting to are friends to one degree, or another, I especially like the, “sisterhood,” that they display unlike bands in the US that consider themselves rivals. That concept apparently isn’t common in Japan and I like that. If I may add, all of those groups give some degree of respect to BM for breaking down the door for the revival of Metal. They are all different in their sound. They do not compete against each other. However, Babymetal is recognized by all of these fantastic artists as reviving the genres and opening the door to their own success. BM isn’t for everyone as they are the oldest group (of my four), yet youngest front women of any of the the groups. Let us help you.

Awesome review. Miyako is shredding piano? Yes, and also tapping on piano as well. Piano is Miyako's primary instrument, guitar is her secondary instrument. She started playing piano at her 3, and started teaching herself guitar at her 18. Midori started guitar at her 20. Time doesn't mean much to gifted people, looks like it. Revolutionary Etude is known for its difficulty, and Miyako is doing it excellent. The Etude was written about 200 years ago by Chopin in his anger and desperation when he knew Polish cadets and people who arose against Russian dictatorial ruling but failed and defeated, and there is a story with Swan Song which was written 200 years later to be a suite. They both share the same theme which is death of heroes, dedication and sacrifice, honor and glory. And there is one more thing. This suite starts with Chopin Revolutionary Etude piano solo and ends with an homage to Chopin Ocean Etude piano solo. BTW, the motif of the main part is based on New World by Dovolzark. I suggest you to try their Painkiller Judas Priest cover. It's an audio track but insanely good performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6etiaCFi9h5l6M

You nailed it when you said it would sound wrong without the piano. It’s why a band this talented basically couldn’t give a shit what people think about their using a backing track. Miyako based this song on two classical pieces. One commenter said that she’s a “dangerous” musician, because there’s virtually nothing she isn’t capable of because of her deep and intuitive understanding of music. She contributes the lions share of songwriting, but all 5 members have written masterpieces. There is no bad Lovebites song. Rest assured. Not one. As for wanting to do Lovebites without a break, just do it. There are too many reactors who allow other bands to distract them. It’s not compulsory to cover the whole “scene”. Me, I’ve never heard any of them. Seriously. I found Lovebites and quickly concluded that as I’d reached the pinnacle I’d stop. I get slammed for saying that but I really don’t care. I love these ladies, I spend hours watching reactions as a way of supporting them and encouraging others to do so. They are waaaaaaay behind a lot of the other J Metal bands in terms of recognition, and that includes Japan, where a Japanese fan replied to me saying that they are virtually unknown in Japan. They need our support. Immerse yourself in Lovebites for a month, I want to see the slow realisation that what I said about there being no bad tracks is indeed true. Go on, I dare you.

Lovebites is certainly doing MORE! A lot more. They are not holding anything back. They are coming for that #1 spot. Romeo has been holding down that #1 spot for over 25 years. Chopin (pronounced Show-pan) was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the greatest classical composers of all time. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now (quite obviously) an elite-level guitarist. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). For this performance, she actually played the Etude as a prelude, but it’s not normally included in their shows.

I highly recommend you try the following: you will like them. They are all metal or hard rock or metal with pop. (this is a bit long) ** Band Maid - "secret My lips" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fYlJRti5Joe8U (you know them, fantastic song) My favorite band ** Unlucky Morpheus - "CADAVER/REVADAC + sheet music" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/larVf4WefteYr6c (co-ed; super band; talent off the scale; song is in two parts, 2nd part is reverse of the first part; watch the score; only the lyrics and some instruments are changed. Fuki (vocal) is probably the best female metal singer in Japan. They have a violin (JILL) she is amazing) ** Lovebites - "Break the Wall" LIVE >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c (thrash- real banger) ** Aldious - "Dominator" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHjaga2Ge82ad7c (all female; real banger - one of the oldest all female metal band, a bit unlucky with their lead vocal) ** Bridear - "Brave New World Revisited" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWeQgIuZrrKej6s (all female; most recent single; amazing prog metal - who makes prog metal now days? they've been doing this a long time; still a bit unknown but tenaciously keep trying - I really feel for them - all their songs are actually really good) ** Mary's Blood - "Marrionette" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/g32wY6iki5Werbc (all female; they were in the game a long time but went hiatus a short time ago. Saki (g) formed project band Nemophila with her friends and it looks like Nemophila is going to be permanent for real. Saki is famous in the Japan metal scene. She can speak English. She recently did an online interview with Herman Li of Dragon Force. It's really interesting - easy to find on YT. ** Destrose - "Maze" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZfPlJx7ja6ag6M (all female; awesome song; I had to upload my copy - can't find good clips with full length on YT. the Legendary Rock band which spawned numerous bands from the various members. Miho and Haruna in the video went to form Lovebites; Narumi (red hair) was lead guitar who went to join Disqualia with Ibuki. Marina in the video was the best vocal for Destrose - I love her voice, she projects amazing feelings - she went onto form Mardelas. Saki and Ibuki were in the band for short time as well. Mina (the other guitar) went to from Fate Gear. Just search Destrose family tree and you would be amazed. So sad they broke up. ** Mardelas - "Apocalypse" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZWbgWqtidOKgNU (co-ed; metal band; formed by Marina from Destrose; real banger) ** Nemophila - "Dissension" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGfEfqiXnd2tbsU (all female; the new breakout band; super band; Mayu (v) with Haraguchi-san formed this band with Saki (Mary's Blood) as a project band. Tamu (drums) and Hazuki joined - Saki is famous in metal scene, Tamu has own YT channel with over 40 million combined views - she can play any genre) - Hazuki was in band Disqualia with Narumi and also is in the band Li-sa X band. Hazuki is areal shredder just like Saki. ** Disqualia - "right NOW" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3jZmmedmq6NmpI (all female; band didn't last long. Still a banger of a song. Narumi is on lead g. Hazuki (yes, that Hazuki of Nemophila) is here as well. Ibuki is on vocals (she was lead v on Destrose after Marina left) ** Lonesome_Blue - "Beginning of the End" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZDQkoeNqpyMmdk (all female; new band; Narumi joined to form this band; pop/hard rock/metal; all their songs are in English; yes, that's Narumi on the guitar) ** Gacharic Spin - "Tamashii" means Soul/Spirit" LIVE >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKWaXnp9h8ZmpMU (all female; pop/hard rock/metal multiple genre super talented; this clip has two drummers; bassist is tops in Japan, main drumer/vocal/growler Hana is multi-instrumentalist, guitarist is actually amazing, keyboardist is fantastic) ** Doll$Box - "Take my chances" LIVE >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZq6hIpujtB1nNU (all female; metal/pop/hard rock; project band with Fuki (Unlucky Morpheus) and main members of Gacharic Spin; nuff said) ** Narumi - "Red Rabbit" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYPcdJR-n9x8nc0 (solo instrumental; Fusion/Jazz/Metalish there are so many amazing female guitarists in Japan; Narumi is among them; she is great) ** Li-sa X band - "One More Chance is Enough" MV >>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvWoqCkesZrb8U (excellent pop/metal song; Li-sa is a child guitar prodigy; absolutely brilliant girl; she was in high school in the MV; Hazuki is her support member with Rina on vocals. Both guitars are 7-string guitars. I wish I can play like Li-sa. She graduated high school now.

Intro , I think, is Chopin's Revolutionary Etude No. 13, or something , also some Chopin like melodies throughout the song, and her solo. The very end piece, don't know. Miyako is a national, no Global Treasure of talent.

Miyako is a purist and did not enjoy using that Roland digital grand. She prefers the weight, slight delay and percussive impact of a real grand piano. She has been using the same baby grand piano with wood keys for most of her life and has probably played that Chopin piece on it hundreds of times.

12:05 Was that a "Thank you God for blessing us with Lovebites"? Because that is how I feel now - we should all feel so privileged to hear this band in our lifetime.
@PaleHorseShabuShabu2 жыл бұрын
Miho is the one who left the band. Her reasons have been kept private. There was a three-phase audition process that just wrapped up in August. Theoretically it was open to everyone in the world, but for phases two and three you had to be in Tokyo in July and in August. Financially, that stacks the deck a bit against those not already in Japan. Another band I would like to put on your radar is one of the more unusual Japanese bands. They're eight members strong, all supremely talented, and combine traditional Japanese instruments with rock music. They're called the Wagakki Band and they just celebrated their eighth year anniversary. Here's a link to "Overture + Amenochi Kanjouron," the opening track to their 2018 New Year's concert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIbHpatofK-WjLM

This band blew me away too and now I can't stop listening to them instead of everything else in my collection. I mean, I do listen to other new bands and songs from time to time, and old bands and songs too, but every time I say to myself "Lovebites just sounds better".

Another great all female metal japanese band to check out is Aldious

If you never considered piano in metal songs, check out another Japanese band, Unlucky Morpheus, and their prominent use of violin. Jill is as much a virtuoso on violin as Miyako is on piano. "Cadaver/Revadac" is a great place to start.

the word mediocre or the expression ' passable ' does not exist in any song in LOVEBITES ' catalog. it must have been an agreed upon prerequisite by the members that every song be about perfect in every sense. every band i've ever listened to has at least one stinker or one song that does not resonate with me. i have yet to find that with LOVEBITES. the announcement for the new bassist hopefully will be any day now so they can get back to business. can't wait to see your future reactions to the best band on earth
