Ngl, this song really bleeds together with my post-9/11 experience as a child. I was 10 when i watched the towers fall on the news. And then it just seems like dominos of going to war in Afghanistan, then iraq, & just SO much happened at once. I was so young and i just had no idea how to take it all in or process it. Some days it really did feel world ending. And it seems like nothing has been normal since and my whole life and the life of my generation and the next has just been one horrible event after another. I used to ride my bike around an empty cul-de-sac in my neighborhood and just sing this song quietly to myself and cry. It still kinda makes me tear up because of those associations.

I remember hearing this whilst on holiday in Florida in Sept 2003, was singing it when we got home to the UK. It wasn’t released here until the Oct and if I remember correctly it went straight to number 1 in the charts. I still remember first listening to this song on mtv in the 2000s and always would run to the tv to turn the volume up glad my brothers got some of their albums so I could listen to their music on repeat. The black eyed peas will forever be in my heart and songs to listen to for they bring back memories of being a young kid

Black Eyed Peas don't have backup singers per se. They are a unified group - take turns singing lead and the members represent many races. They blew the world away with their sound. ❤
