This entire album is fire. Number one for loads of time when it came out. Really should try out 'What a Fool Believes' off the same.

The great Michael McDonald on lead vocal and keys- written by him, too! He’s an icon - and a rabbithole! ❤❤❤❤ He is the King of Blue-Eyed Soul. He worships Ray Charles.

I absolutely love Michael McDonald's voice and songwriting, and I loved the Takin' It to Streets album with both Tom Johnston and McDonald in the band. But in my opinion the Doobie Brothers were not the same or as good a band once Johnston left and McDonald became the sole lead singer. It wasn't just a vocal shift, his style and tastes forced the band to play a different, more soulful and less rocking style of music. More of McDonald's keyboards and less gritty guitar. People who love soul would of course prefer the change. I myself prefer both old Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald solo records over the Doobie Brothers after they became little more than McDonald's supporting band, great as those vocals may have been.

Michael McDonald has probably the most unique voice in music, I absolutely love it. He is an honorary member of Steely Dan.

It’s a great song Michael McDonalds voice is very soulful he wrote and sings the song. You must listen to Takin It To The Streets. He is the best and so are the Doobies. Many of Michaels songs have been sampled. Michael has a solo career and is also a member of the Doobies.

👋🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸 You're not wrong that sounded exactly like it was looped and I know that it's The Doobie Brothers stuff because this was my time. I was born in 64. These guys are from the 70s, same with Linda Ronstadt and tears that she sang Smokey Robinson. They sang it together as well.

I enjoyed your reaction, especially recognising the intro had been sampled and re-used. Good musical memory! 👍👍 You talked about it sounding like something from Motown. However, there were several record labels 'back in the day' releasing the same genre of music. Plus, musicians listened to each others music without limiting to one label. There was also a lot of 'funk' back in the 70s too. You might enjoy "What is Hip" from the Oakland-based band "Tower of Power". Their drummer, David Garibaldi, who also co-wrote "What is Hip" is still active. "Tower of Power" had a fabulous horn section. Best Wishes. ☮ If you like 'funk', and might like something visual, more than just an album cover, may I suggest reacting to the young (13yo) Japanese female drummer covering: _Tower of Power - What is Hip? / Drum Covered by YOYOKA_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zqm3nIuQir51fNk (finishes 5m:23s, then her list of Patreons)? I've been following her since 2020, and AFAICT, she never blocks. So, if you make a few pauses to keep KZbin happy I assume you should be fine. Another 70s band worth reacting to is Grand Funk Railroad. YT has a video of them, but Yoyoka did a great solo cover _We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad / Cover by Yoyoka, _*_9_*_ year old_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpSUf2idfsqfp9U She also made a set of covers in a studio during Japan's "Stay Home" with some legendary Japanese musicians: _Grand Funk Railroad - We're an American Band / YOYOKA's 12th Birthday Session_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5_Rp6uji8epb7M (I found it funny that a group of Japanese musicians were performing that song 😀) They own the performance copyright, so AFAIK you should not get blocked. Maybe pause so YT doesn't 'autoblock'? Yoyoka's 120+ videos are one-take, no edits (except one has one edit). So they have a 'live performance' vibe. I have no relationship whatsoever with Yoyoka. I just think she's a great drummer, with great musical taste, and a great young person.

I'm just to the point at the beginning where you're talking about Drake but or whoever I can't remember but yeah it's quite similar and it almost sound quality sounds like a sampled but not only did they Loop it like you said, they slowed it down not by half but by double that so really it's running at quarter speed compared to the original.

Money. Did they pay for it, or steal it. Sometimes, it's a mistake. When that happens, reputable artists say, 'My bad", and offer compensation.

The reason why musicians are always dogging rap music because it's just pretty much spices of other songs that are created before because they're hooks and apparently the rap industry is far and few from many hooks and not originally enough to create them and their producer who usually the guy that put the the company meant together can't create things like this so you know I guess you know the easy way out of this place with the call but I got to let you know there ain't any hooks that have been on any rap song that were original I've never heard of him and I used to DJ from the beginning they're all from songs that were prior that's why I'm always letting these kids know that a lot of these rappers were actually listening to everything back in the day they were just listening to rap which is why it's become so. And unoriginal so to speak

It might have sounded motown to you. But you have to remember you hear this singer, Michael McDonald. You should listen to a song in the a late 80s. Michael McDonald and Patty Labelle. There are so many singers 50 60s. 70s and some 80s you couldn't tell if they were white or black. That's because everything was together. But they've been slowly trying to make a war between all says in music and politics and everything. Just look at some more 50 60s. 70 80s, I'm getting away from all this rap c*** and disgusting words in different songs now. Calling everybody names, male or female? It's disgusting
