This track was beyond legendary sparking brains of millions of people. Ice wrote that song when he was 16 man, just think about it. We had no internet, mobile phones or any other sophisticated tech. In the UK if this wasn't played at a dance event then people felt short-changed. The minute that iconic intro-beat was played everybody got up and danced - white black, girl boy it didn't matter. When you left that was the song you had stuck in your head and for days after - for many it was a game changer and got a lot of my white male friends serious about dancing when they hadn't wanted to before.

Reaction was divided when it came out. It was a huge hit...and otoh, for a lot of people he was a joke and a (bad, very white) rip-off artist of Black hip hop...an uncool white boy trying (and failing) to be cool via cultural appropriation. He's a lot more appreciated, and a lot less judged and disliked-- especially by Black reactors, going by what the say in their reactions-- than he was when this came out.
@morbidchid9 ай бұрын
Vanilla Ice started out in black clubs and played for an all black audience for about five years before he ever crossed over to the pop market. So he was embraced in a pretty similar manner as we are seeing in today's reaction communities. It was only after he blew up and became mainstream that people started hating on him.
