By the way, Beijing, in fact, you forgot a scenic spot. This scenic spot is called Hutong, which is a symbol of old Beijing. It is said that a rural house in it is worth 400 million yuan😢
@啥哈哈-o1r3 ай бұрын
Of course, houses in Shanghai are also very expensive, with a square meter costing 300,000 yuan. About the past 30 to 40 years ago, Shanghai was just a backward countryside. Shanghai has only developed in recent decades, and the speed of development is particularly fast😢

I have the impression that Yu Garden is ALWAYS busy. So I never visited there despite lived in Shanghai for 5 years. For a traditional Chinese garden experience, its better to visit the gardens in Suzhou, 30 mins train ride away from Shanghai.

As a Chinese person, I can tell you for sure. The kinds of food in China are extremely numerous. I've been a Chinese for around 23 years and I still often eat delicacies that I've never seen before
@风清扬-y8o3 ай бұрын
There are eight major food series in China, each with its own unique characteristics. And each province also has unique cuisine that can only be enjoyed within that province. It is not an exaggeration to say that there may be millions of types of food or vegetables throughout China. There are always some dishes that taste very delicious to you.

How do you travel from one point to another? Walk? Subway? Uber?
@travelshortsАй бұрын
A mixture of all those, Shanghai is easy to get around. There is no Uber in China, there version is called DiDi and is simple to use in the Alipay app.
Based on my experience, if you're interested in modern architecture, you should visit Shenzhen. It's more modern and has many parks that are peaceful. If you want to explore ancient towns, you can go to Yunnan, which also has beautiful scenery. As for Shanghai, I find it very crowded and noisy, so I don't like it there.

wow, a really nice hotel. do you know if one can get a better price booking online or when one arrived in the hotel on the day of arrival? Thanks
@travelshorts3 ай бұрын
It all depends what dates you want to go there, the room type, the view, do you want breakfast, etc. After checking a number of websites I found that Trip.com and Booking.com had the lowest rates (even lower than booking direct with the hotel) Here are some direct links to the Waldorf Astoria pages on Trip.com: bit.ly/WaldorfShang and Booking.com: bit.ly/WaldorfShanghai I would never just turn up at a Hotel Like the Waldorf Astoria without a booking, even if there was any availability you would be paying rack rates which are usually a lot higher than can ge found online in advance. It was a great hotel and I would highly recommend it.

hitting all the tourist traps in shanghai 😅, but I feel you. how you felt leaving yu gardens is generally how I felt about shanghai, one of my least favorite cities I've visited in china. that's just me because I'm not a fan of big commercialized metropolitan cities aka shanghai, hong kong, new york, etc etc. if you are ever back around that area, skip shanghai and head to hangzhou, suzhou, or nanjing which are all about an hour away from each other by train. much more of a cultural experience in those cities.

Perhaps I’m missing something here, but I’m wondering why you chose not to travel directly from Xi'an to Chengdu before coming to Shanghai.
@travelshorts3 ай бұрын
It was just the way my timetable worked at for the attractions I wanted to visit. Ideally I wanted to travel from Beijing to Shanghai to Xi’an to Chengdu. But that would have meant I would have needed to go to Shanghai Disneyland on a weekend which would not be ideal due to the crowds.
@王王鑫-q3z3 ай бұрын
Chinese scenic spots are always crowded during holidays. If you want a good travel experience, you really need to make time arrangements in advance.
