He he he… “…I think it’s similar to Band-Maid…” Hold on, lemme get my popcorn before the shock. They are sooo very different to Band-Maid. Also, Babymetal is the OG that blew open the door to the west for modern J-Rock/J-Metal, paving thre way for bands like Band-Maid and others. Also, while a great song that showcases Babymetal well, it is definitely not their best. This is most viewed due to the “WTF” factor. As 11 years ago, no body in the west has ever seen something like this before! I think they are similar to Band-Maid. Similar doesn't mean identical. Obviously Babymetal is more similar to Broken by the Scream or Phantom Siita. Or Passcode or Dreamcatcher.

I saw them for the first time back to back in Houston and Dallas last year and, even being in their mid 20s now, they somehow have even more relentless energy and their stage presence is almost like something you can feel! Easily some of the best shows of my life, and I'm 47! Adorable, powerful, inspirational. Those are perfect words to describe them!

This MV went viral about 11 years ago and is usually the first one reactors turn to. It's not bad but it really doesn't do them justice as it's a studio recording laid on images of a live concert. Babymetal are best viewed live although they do have some excellent MV's (Megitsune and Karate spring to mind). They are the most popular Japanese music act internationally for good reason.

Babymetal existed much earlier than the band Maid, they had a mission to revive rock or metal musicians who were quite old in Japan (a few were starting to be abandoned), and they succeeded in raising new and fresher rock or metal musicians than before. .

I mean, every BABYMETAL song hits different. Really. Especially later in their career, with two latest albums, you will experience different vibe/genre/style mixed with metal and Su's beautiful clean vocals in each song. "Gimme Chocolate" is just their most recognisable song, not to say best or most liked (not even close). BABYMETAL is THE music journey you would not get with any other band.

BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the original 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Download, Sonisphere, Glastonbury, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 70+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they released a new amazing album last year and they just finished a world tour where they had many shows here in the US. This is a live performance,. This video looks like it was filmed at the Legend 1997 Apocalypse concert. A majority of their official music videos are of their live performances because it is best to experience these girls live.

Correct, except it has the studio audio dubbed over the live concert footage. The official PA PA YA music video is another like this. Only videos with "Live" in the title on Babymetal's KZbin channel have live audio.

Looks like I wrote too much, KZbin has deleted my comment. Good first reaction - welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole. 'Gimme Chocolate' can be too much of a shock and quite divisive as a first song to hear from BABYMETAL. Some people just don't get it which is why I would always recommend another song (pretty much any other song) to a first time listener. It is the song/video that went viral over 10 years ago, mainly for the shock value, so yes it has most views and it is a very important song for them historically, but it is a long way from being the best or most popular song. It is great fun at live shows of course and you wouldn't believe the mosh pits it starts.

BABYMETAL are unlike any other band, they really are unique and original ... they break all the rules of what people expect to see and hear and with how they do things. This video was filmed in December 2013 the day after lead singer Su-metal's 16th birthday. Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14. It was a live performance but had the studio audio - shame as the live audio is even better. The vocals in the studio recordings are unnecessarily over-produced for a start - Su-metal is one of the very best vocalists (she is certainly mine and a lot of other peoples' favourite vocalist) and live she is incredible ... again this isn't a song that really shows off her vocal talents, but it is one of their fun songs. You will get a lot of suggestions for more songs - you could pick anything from here on and you will not be disappointed. They only have well crafted songs, no fillers ... but they will surprise you every time. Expect the unexpected. My suggestion - 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014.

To continue on the foxhole after this and to see what they really mean with the ending quote, definitely check out Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Also as Grington has already said, definitely wouldn't say this is really their "big" song. Sure it has the most views but, it really is more because of the WTF factor. Arguably, I would say their biggest in reality is likely Megitsune, which has been played live more than any other song of theirs. I would actually suggest that one next, though the official music video. Which is one of the few times a music video will get recommended for a song. Would also suggest Headbanger Live @ Legend 1997 (abr metal has a good version titled Legend of 1997). Another one of their bigger songs that has a couple different versions as the band has done special versions for each members 15th and 20th Birthdays, (For Momo it was actually her last day of being 20 since she was not yet an official member).

Gimme Chocolate is probably the most Devisive song BM has, and generally its the first song people hear but as good as it is they have so many more amazing songs if you want the more J-pop sounding songs Doki Doki Morning (the groups first song) Iine Elevator Girl if you want the more heavy stuff MAYA BxMxC(Rap song) Devine Attack Babymetal Death and if you want some stuff with more feeling behind it Monochrome The One (a song dedicated to the fans) Metal Kingdom Karate they have 4 albums and over 60 songs, every song is amazing and there are so amy more that i could have listed but it would just be the whole discography, anyway i hope you enjoy and keep reacting! i love seeing new people discover this amazing group

The live audio is even better 😄 You could do a recent live version of GC, if you wish, search for Gimme Chocolate! (PIA Arena 2023 Live) Yes, they still performed this song 10 years after the performance you watched. And it´s still great 😉 Catch Me If You Can (with Kami Band Intro) from the "Budokan 2014 Black Night" concert will blow your socks off 🤣

Not their best song, but great live they put as much, if not more, into it now. You should see the mosh pits start when the intro begins . Surrgest Monochrome or Metali live or Light and Darkness 3 very different songs 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

As good as Gimme Chocolate is, I wouldn't rate it in the top half of Babymetal's discography. The standard of their songwriting and composition is incredible. Let us know what you think of Megitsune, Ijime Dame Zettai, Headbanger, Karate, Yava, Syncopation, BMC, Monochrome, Metal Kingsom, Kingslayer..., and more besides 🙂. A lot of fans will agree with you. If someone thinks this is the best or even hates this song, fair enough, everyone has different tastes. But objectively it's only an average song. It feels bigger and more important than it is because of its viral status and crazy energy. Ratatata is a superior viral song IMO and is even more watched than GC was when it came out.
