@mrjaybee7314 күн бұрын
As a Gen X'er, i think what happened was that they stopped dancing at parties/clubs. Back in our day, us guys respected the young ladies so we had to ask them to dance, or we were just bold and just took their hand or we just stood close and started dancing with them. The DJ would play 2 or 3 slow jams in a row, which made us go through the same routine. We had to interact face to face to get that slow dance and maybe get she'd let you hold or rub her booty while yall slow danced. 😂 That's how you know she was felling you, and had a possible partner for the next round of slow jams 💪🏾

As a man who grew up the 70s and 80s, what Michael is doing is expressing is what was an unashamed appeal to someone he truly loved - and he wasn’t about to let her go without giving his all. Idiots today call it being “in your feelings” when in reality it’s setting aside your pride in the interest of relationship. These modern terms (“in your feelings”, “situationships”, and so on) are a contributor to (or result of) why our people are in the dire straits we’re in.

Aside from the great singer Michael McDonald, this tune is ALL ABOUT THE TITLE LYRIC...How many of us have awakened after a restless night's sleep, and it hits you square between your eyes and ears and you say.."Oh, that's right, I keep forgettin' we're not in love any more"...."Things will never be the same again"....and your heart begins to ache. You're exactly right that men, and young men in particular, are socialised to be much harder and less emotional now. It's seen as weakness and simping, essentially, to express deep love for someone. We all have our walls up, and want to protect ourselves. It's a shame. Lots of things were much worse in the past, but this is definitely one thing we've lost - the softness and the tenderness.

The mindset of "If you work hard to get something. You appreciate it more" applies to relationships back then. A guy had to "work" to get a girl's attention. "Work" meant pursuing, actually talking and getting to know them. Asking for a date and planning and putting some thought into the date(s). We valued women that actually valued themselves. It doesn't mean there wasn't "casual encounters" or "one night stands" there definitely was. It just seemed like people were more respectful then. Women were seen as a "prize" or "gift" to be celebrated instead of just a "conquest" to disrespect. Nowadays it seems like people just "hook up." The lines of an exclusive relationship a very blurred. Especially when Independent Women act like they don't need or want men. Men used to hold doors open for a female as a sign of respect. Many times, if it's done now women find it disrespectful. That is sad to me. I take my chances and still hold doors.
