I feel you. The value of the original art is lost in favor of a visual of the artist, which should mean nothing. In that case, listen to more Katy Perry.

It's not just the visual. It's the fact that the studio version has precise nuance that is sometimes lost in a live performance. Live performances are meant to be enjoyed by those who are familiar with the magic of the original, so can appreciate the additions/modifications as additions to the amazing original. But if you don't KNOW the original version, then that improvement is lost.

Great reaction! 🙌 Spandau Ballet was a British new wave and synth-pop band that gained popularity in the 1980s. Formed in London in 1979, the band consisted of Tony Hadley (vocals), Gary Kemp (guitar), Martin Kemp (bass guitar), Steve Norman (saxophone), and John Keeble (drums). They were known for their fusion of new wave, synth-pop, and blue-eyed soul, and were part of the New Romantic movement. Their hit song "True," released in 1983, was a global success and remains one of their most well-known songs. Spandau Ballet had other successful hits and released six albums before disbanding in 1990, leaving a lasting legacy on the 1980s music scene.

@ According to an article on Tampa Bay Times, the band selected the name as something unique written on a bathroom stall. However, the term “Spandau Ballet” originated during World War I as a bleak description of the twitching done by shot-down Allied Forces in their last living moments when caught in barbwire after being chased and shot down by German planes using the Spandau machine gun, a new weapon that allowed the machine gun to be attached and fired from the airplane’s propeller area.

Of course it's been sampled. Music that relies on sampling old songs because songwriters can't seem to write their own hooky melodies anymore is the norm.

Sampling isnt a new thing.
Жыл бұрын
@@bobbywikstrom79 You're right. It isn't. However, in the past it wasn't so common and it existed much more creativity while nowadays sampling seems to be the norm and is very rare to find artists who are so creative and unique and making their own path in terms of being "original". One of the reasons for that is that in the last decades, mainly since the arrive of MTV ("Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits is about that), the music industry is developed in a way that the last generations are focused in producing mostly music with the only intention of making money and not putting much effort in being creative (low investment - highest income possible).

I read an interview of the singer of this band where he said, Yeah, I'm going bald and I have a belly now but every now and then I drop into a karaoke bar and wait for my chance to get up on stage and then I sing this song and every song in the bar drops as I belt it out almost as good as I did on the album. Nice.

When an aliied soldier got tangled in the barbed wire during and attack to the German trenches and hit many times with bullets from this machine guns. Released 40 years ago 🎂. The album, which is also True, was recorded in Bahamas 🇧🇸, close to where The Police recorded the album Synchronicity. Spandau Ballet was reaching its peak 😃 while The Police was in turmoil, having Synchronicity as their final studio album. 😖 Sting and Tony Hadley would eventually meet in Band Aid. True was written by Gary Kemp. He looks and sounds like Dave Matthews, who is from South Africa 🇿🇦. GK is a host of the music show The Rockentours. (sic). His (younger) brother is Martin Kemp. He was once married to Shirley Holliman, who was a backup singer for Wham! You can see them in the music video 📹.Last Christmas 🎄 Keyboardist was Jess Bailey. He quit and became a producer. Marvin refers to the late Marvin Gaye, RIP. Suggested video 📹: Spandau Ballet performs Highly Strung.

Watch the original video, the guys were extreme hot, I believe they met while modeling. The harmony is provided by real life brothers, the guitar & piano player (who starred in a movie as twin ganster brothers called 'The Krays'), the blond sax player, was always stunning, they were contemparies of Duran,Duran, Harcut 100 and other 'glam' British Bands. Glad you found this 80's classic. From this era you might want to consider reacting to the Ultravox song Vienna, considered by many to be the best British song never to reach number one in the charts. If you do react to Vienna, you might include a few seconds of Joe Dolce's "Shaddap You Face", the song mostly responsible for keeping it from the top spot. Ahh the fickleness of music and the curse of novelty songs. 😉

Every time I hear this song it reminds me of the episode of Modern Family where Claire surprises Phil by inviting one of the band members of Spandau Ballet to serenade Phil thinking True was his favorite song and that he loved the band- which he didn’t. Such a hilarious episode since it wasn’t even the lead singer who Claire invited to their house.

You pronounced the name correctly. Pretty sure the name was taken from some graffiti at Berlin's infamous Spandau Prison. Something along the lines of the 'ballet' being the spasms of a body which dropped through the hangman's dropdoor. Dark, but not as dark as Joy Division's name.
