Richie Sambora used a talkbox on this song, which gave it a very distinctive sound. A talkbox is an electronic device that allows a guitar player to make distorted sounds with his mouth.
@terrylandess6072
@terrylandess6072 3 жыл бұрын
A talkbox receives the guitarist's speaker signal, but uses a horn driver (looks like a speaker magnet but has a very small diaphragm) with a tube attached to the front, instead of the big 'horn' shaped metal sound director. Pure analogue - not digital. The guitarist's other speaker cabinets need to lose their signal when the talkbox is in effect, and a microphone picks up the sound.
@edwardpaulsen1074
@edwardpaulsen1074 3 жыл бұрын
There have been a few guitarists to have used the talkbox over the years.... Peter Frampton was known for it... It is just like putting the speaker for the guitar in your mouth and use that sound for "talking" after a fashion and shaping the sound in cool ways.

@@aslakrantakokko5347 I keep asking for that one in the hopes they will try it... I would also like to see their reaction to the Scorpions "Animal Magnetism" as well, but that is a slower "heavier" ballad that is awesome, but might be "too slow" for their faster rock explorations... I know Lex would absolutely LOVE the musical sound journey of that song with her kinesthesia... that one is *SUPER* cool for soundscape qualities. Or Nazareth's "Please Don't Judas Me"... slower songs but very rich in almost surreal and encompassing music!

The 80’s, fueled by Jack Daniel’s, a white powdery substance and the purple cans of Aquanet Hairspray. They were the best of times. Until they weren’t. I have a few vague memories that I’ll cherish forever, one of which happened on the way home from a Bon Jovi concert, but I don’t think my body could handle that life again. I traded the hairspray for beard oil and the white powder and Jack for really good single barrel bourbon. Side note, that “woah woah” sound is made by putting a funnel with a tube attached over a speaker which the guitar plays through, running the tube to your mouth next to a microphone and modifying your mouth shape as you play. The sound of the guitar reverberates in your mouth.

You have no idea how huge this song was! Four weeks in a row at #1 on MTV top 20 videos. FOUR! And considering this isn't just for any one category of music - this was overall. this hit was as big as Michael Jackson songs to put it in perspective. I remember cranking this album (tape) up on my Walkman every day on my way to school - I was highschool sophomore when this dropped. It's an anthem song and really sucks you in and motivates you because of the great storytelling within. This is from an era when music was just FUN! They all looked like they were enjoying themselves - 80s music was most all about partying and good vibes. Damn I miss that era of music.

I never pretended, I was unashamed of the music I liked. I got so much stick from my metalhead mates for listening to rave music at school, one day I'd have Metallica's Kill 'Em All on my walkman, the next DJ Vibes with cheesy happy hardcore. But I didn't care what they said, music is a subjective experience. There were a whole bunch of happy hardcore covers of some of the power ballads from the likes of everyone from Foreigner to Savage Garden.

I was watching VH1 when Bon Jovi was inducted into the Hall of Fame. And all the while shaking my head at the incredulity of such a concept. Now, bear with me a little here. The festivities proceeded along, with every member given a chance on the podium, until their segment was finally over. Directly following their ceremony- and this is when it gets really interesting- Steven Van Zandt comes out apparently to announce the next segment of the proceedings. The first thing I notice is a clear sh*t-eating grin on his face. I mean, he had the proverbial 'cat that swallowed a mouse' type of smirk plastered across his face. Then he revealed the flowing: that the Academy of Music has decided that they will begin, in the upcoming year, to allow songs to be inducted into their prestigious hall- even if the bands themselves are not considered to be suitable for such distinction. BAM! There it was. Oh, the irony! Scant a breath passes between the induction of the same type of band he had just described, this announcement takes center stage. Bon Jovi could have two songs in the hall: 'Living On A Prayer' and 'Wanted Dead Or Alive.' They are not a hall of fame band. Little Stevie knew this. That's why he was smiling so hard. He's from Jersey. The irony was not lost on him. You think he ever played any of their fluffy pop soccer mom anthems on his radio show? God forbid! The fact that they got in at all speaks volumes about the art of politics and of green mail. And that they got in before YES is all you need to know about what a joke the Academy truly is.

You see, Ive heard a ton of these songs that you're now listening to when I was younger but never knew who sang them, and all the smaller details. Now with you going over the older stuff, Im now able to find who's who so to speak and dig em up to learn more. For perspective, for us deaf folks, we have a hard time even distinguishing a male from female singing voice at times let alone try to make out the words to the songs. And regardless of that, youll quickly learn that the music of yesteryear is miles better than whatever is being put out today, Tom MacDonald and a few other exceptions of course.

This song came out in 1986 and 35 years later is still 100% relatable. I mean, who hasn't been Tommy or Gina at some point in their life?

You should definitely check out "Stone In Love" by Journey. It has one of the best outro solos of all time and chronologically, it is right there between "Living On A Prayer" and "More Than A Feeling".

This is the song that blew Jon Bon Jovi’s voice out at a show in Vancouver many years ago and they had to cancel a lot of shows. And you can hear why.

With regards to the voice sound effect at the start "Uma Oha Uma" or something like that, check out their later song "It's My Life" which has a similar effect at the start. This song is actually early eighties. The album it's on is the first album I ever bought, "Slippery When Wet" way back when I was about 13 years old. I'm 49 years old now.

Love this song. It's actually the first of several songs either about or referring to Tommy and Gina. The others are called "Born To Be My Baby", "99 In The Shade", and "It's My Life". "Born To Be My Baby" is a sequel, but doesn't mention them by name. "99 In The Shade" does mention them by name, but isn't about them. "It's My Life" is dedicated to them because they "never backed down".

I bought a leather jacket back in 1986 like Bon Jovi had on.this song is an every day ordeal with people. And this rock song is FAMOUS my #1. Top of the list out of every genre. Even my #1 band Def Leppard. Do a rabbit hole with Bon Jovi. Brad likes soft rock songs. React to "I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU". BON JOVI. Bon Jovi music is FANTASTIC..

They didn't take themselves seriously but they did their music. I would STRONGLY suggest Jon's (who is now 59) most recent video/song "Do what you can" Official video. It's a pre Vaccination song but about the pandemic. Shows you what he's like all these years later! (Still has epic hair and damn I'd love to be that t-shirt!) It's a great feel good song! With a horrible topic. He's a Jersey/NY guy and has a few "pay what you can" restaurants. Works there himself a lot of the time, especially has since the pandemic. With the same woman for 40ish years. Just a nice charitable guy. Another song I would recommend it you want to get into more of this type of music is "You give love a bad name" If you want mellow and feels then "Bed of Roses"
