Apparently there was a mix-up in the studio and the band recorded the track in the wrong key. When the singer came to record he had to sing it in a higher register that really pushed his vocal. Ironically if he had sang it in the original key it wouldn't have had such an impact or stood out from other covers.

This maybe the first Power Ballad. They didn’t write this one but have many excellent ballads. “Hair Of the Dog” is a must. Dan McCafferty was the original lead vocalist and was with them until he could no longer perform. He died in late 2022, I believe.

You can feel the emotions from the lead singer! It makes you feel how Love Hurts. Hard to believe this was a cover song from the Everly Brothers. The flip side of this 1975 single "Hair Of The Dog". Need to react to that song next.

Naw, they broke quite heavily here in the States because I was in Kansas of all places and suddenly with that hair of the dog album, they were everywhere. That lead track is so intense, but then this cover of the Everly Brothers Love Hurts from the late sixties just killed. Another fan favorite that I believe is at the end of one of the sides, possibly side A of the album is called, please don't Judas me. Very similar to another biblical reference. But anyway they were kind of another step on that ladder between really hard rock and metal. But this of course that you're reviewing here is a ballad, but that's also a part of metal and hard rock.

Dan McCafferty is the singer…R.I.P…..I was lucky enough to see them twice back in the 70s. They were absolutely amazing. FYI , I am Canadian and yes, they were VERY popular here. I got to meet Dan back then…he was an absolute sweetheart.

This album was huge. It was almost like "Dark Side of the Moon". When the song "Hair of the Dog" came out, it just never left radio. This whole album was a blast. Nothing but hits. Yeah, Nazareth were huge here for a while. I still love this album. After this, I'm going to go listen to "Please Don't Judas Me" and remember how great things were in the 70s.

As a songwriter, I will tell you why flame instead of stove. It's what Keith Richards calls the law of vowels. Stove is a weaker sound. Flame fits the lyrics and music flow way better than stove. As a writer and singer, i would have changed that too. And. Nazareth is and was huge in Canada. I had the single in 1975 when it came out and later on, the album. Now... change it up and go with Hair of hte Dog or This Flight Tonight...
