This is my favorite song of his! By the time this song came out, Frankie Lymon had gone solo. But before that, "Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers" had had many hits around the world, and they toured in the UK, I know. I would guess the audience knew he was black if they weren't living under a rock. My impression was they weren't comfortable being zeroed in on camera, and some were looking around to see how the others were reacting to the song and Frankie. They were probably not sure if it was OK to show enthusiasm for a young black guy, I don't know. But they were huge at the time, especially Frankie, so they liked him, and you can hear the reaction at the end. Thats my interpretation anyway. They were from my mom's era, but I've always loved them, Frankie was adorable! He was just 13 years old when he co-wrote The Teenagers first smash hit, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" You should react to that one! His story is very tragic though, being on the road without parents, he fell prey to heroin addiction, and died in his 20s. It's sad. Who knows how far his career could have gone, he was a big star all around the world as it was. And he could dance too! I love his solo song "Goody Goody", too and really, all their music!
