The show was shot only in the studio, they had one indoor and one outdoor stage and developed some really cool technology with led video walls. There is a making of/behind the scenes where they show the technology. I would advice everyone to watch it. Its called "Disney gallerie the mandalorian" and episode 4 is only abou the incredible way they filmed this.

Some people don't realize "baby yoda" is a nickname given by the fans. We don't know the species name for yoda so it has been reffered to by fans as simply "yodas species". "Baby yoda" came out of not having anything else to call him. They just reffer to it as "the child" in the show

The species of Yoda is a mystery. They have never revealed where his home planet is and what it's called however The Child or 'baby Yoda' isn't actually Yoda, this all takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi so at this point Yoda would be dead however a child of the same species of Yoda that is force-sensitive is quite rare and something that would be quite sought after and worth a lot of credits

The knife Mando uses is called a Vibro-blade. It’s like a normal blade but it resonates so incredibly fast that it can deflect a lightsaber and cause massive damage to flesh and cut through steel.

3:13 They shot it in a studio. They used a 360 degree, 70 foot wide room with LED screens on the sides and roof. They used a video game engine to create virtual worlds and display them on the 360 degree screens. There's a super cool video on it

In the Star Wars universe there is a technology called "Repulsorlifts". It's why the cradle can float and it's also why ships lift off the ground before their main engines kick in during the movies.

The weapons that the jawas shoot Mando with on the top of the sandrawler are ion guns. Those are what they use to capture droids - you saw them used on R2-D2 way back in the first Star Wars movie. They're built to disable technology, not to paralyse people, but Mando's armour has enough technology in it that it has much the same effect. He does attack the jawas with deadly force, which would be disproportionate just for theft in normal circumstances, but on a harsh desert like that stranding him by scrapping his ship might be effectively fatal.

This show probably has the closest parallel (at least in theme) to an old Japanese film/TV series from the 1970s called "Kozure Ookami (Lone Wolf and Cub)" about a disgraced samurai who travels the country with his young son, and they encounter adventures along the way. Oh and you didn't forget that old guy's name, they didn't reveal it at this point. :)

Almost the entirety of the show is shot with XR(extended reality) technology. An all encompassing LED-screen set where they project super high definition environments. It has several advantages, most prominently that of lighting. They can create a photo realistic enviroemtn that also emits a almost perfect light for that environment, which means that many heavy post-production processes can be almost skipped entirely! It is VERY cool #geekingout.

It lets the actors be more involved, camera work is better because of lighting being more "natural," and it just looks so good. We had the tech to do this for a while, just no studio adopted it so willingly.

The story of The Mandalorian series reminds me a lot of the old Lone Wolf & Cub manga, except Mando & The Child aren't father & son. But the stories are very similar.

There's a long-running manga (Japanese comics) from the '70's about a grizzled, disgraced Japanese swordsman and his infant son who travel the road undergoing a variety of adventures while seeking revenge against the clan that ruined them. Movies and a TV series in Japan have been based on it. This whole season is an homage to that story. Hearing you believe the kid is Yoda is driving me batty! Yoda died at the age of 900 in "Return of the Jedi". This show is set five years later. The child is a juvenile of Yoda's species which has never been named. Simply for the sake of convenience, he has been dubbed "Baby Yoda". You knew the setting so trust your instincts! Nick Nolte brilliantly voiced gruff Kuill the Ugnaught. The floating bassinet uses repulsor technology like the speeder bikes on Endor, Luke's hovercraft on Tatooine and the carbonite slab on Bespin. Baby Yoda is not using the Force to keep it aloft. The electric discharge that immobilized Mando isn't a paralysis ray but the equivalent of a high voltage taser. During the fight with the Mudhorn, there was a repeated loop of both your recording and episode footage. Just a little hiccup.

Baby Yoda is called "The Child" and doesn't have a name. Because we've only really seen one other of its species, Yoda (Well, there was Yaddle in Episode 1 in the background), The Child has been given the super cute nickname Baby Yoda You asked where it was shot! There are a few documentaries online about the really cool technology that they use: it's basically a large stage surrounded all around by massive LED screens, that run a version of a video game engine (Unreal Engine - some running in real time like a video game, others using per-rendered lighting projected back onto real time assets), using a lot of photo scanned and high quality assets. I work in the video game industry, and was shocked at the number of scenes that used this technique so flawlessly This is a really, really short video on it. Not all comments put it plain, but: the "baby Yoda" isn't Yoda. This series takes place a few years *after* The Return of the Jedi. Meaning Yoda has become one with the Force (err he died). This adorable fellow we see here is of the same species but he (she?) is not Yoda.

In 1978 there was a Star Wars holiday special that Lucas wants us to forget. It was so awkwardly bad... Okay, riddle me this. The Star Wars geek-o-verse went insane when Rey instinctively used the force with no training to defeat a fairly severely injured Kylo-Ren but no one has batted an eye when a baby Yoda-type-creature can use the force in times of stress like someone who has trained for a while. Just sayin'.

Although The Child has no name and w know it is not Yoda the producers stated that it is acceptable to call it Baby Yoda. I have read that it does have a name that is to be revealed later, but that may just be speculation. It is probably too late now, but you really need to watch 'The Clone Wars' and 'Rebels' TV series to get a better understanding of what may be happening in the next series of The Madalorian!
