FIRST YEAR CAMBRIDGE UNI RESULTS: LIVE REACTION!

So here it is, my results for my first year of Natural Sciences! I also review my first year experience at Cambridge and talk about future plans.

My name's Paige and I have just finished my first year studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I am a member of Jesus College and make regular vlogs of my day to day life at uni, including lectures, supervisions, and social activities.

Paige - congratulations. Do not focus on the rank. Most importantly you had a well rounded year, maintained your mental health, had fun and made a great group of friends - that gets ranked very very highly! (I write this comment as someone who was ranked very high up...burnt out...and totally regret it looking back). Well done :-D

My first year I got a third and was almost kicked out, second year I focused and got a mix of 2:2s and 2:1s, third year and final degree score, I got a first. Now doing a MSc. Your subject is a lot harder than mine and you clearly are crazy intelligent, massive props to you on that result!

Well done! I do think that people often forget that uni doesn't revolve around the extra-curriculars. It's good to do something on the side yes, but It's important not to over do it as getting the grades is far more important! I'm going into my 3rd year and I didn't join any clubs, but I was still social, made lots of friends, etc without putting too much of my time into doing extra-curriculars. Just a note for anyone going into university! Don't feel pressured to do lots of extra-curriculars! x

Hey Paige! I'm about to go into my third year, and I'm doing a Theoretical Physics degree. I can empathise - I felt exactly the same as you before I chose which path to go down degree-wise, and again when I had to choose which branch of physics to specialise in (I loved physics, but it also really intimidated me, and I never saw myself as being good at it). Obviously I decided to give it a chance anyway - and I'm so so so glad I did! Even though I definitely still find the content terrifying at times, I also genuinely enjoy what I'm learning about and that gets me through 😊 Whichever modules you choose, with your work ethic and enthusiasm I'm sure you'll do brilliantly ❤ (Oh, and huge congrats on your first year result!)

Wow I am so incredibly proud and happy for you!!! It's been so lovely following you along with finding your balance, struggling through some bits, making friends ... I can't wait to follow you further next year :) On the topic of self-confidence : I truly believe it is something that grows as you find your ideal study method, your "vibe" for the lack of a better word. I'm a 3year BA Japanology student with a history minor (going into a masters next year) and believe me when I say it took me until quite literally the absolute last moment to really find the right method for me. I've been around the 60% until my last semester when I managed to bump it up to a 70%+ on my biggest courses, because I had figured it out! Every course has its own specifications and peculiarities... and you have the people who somehow seem to immediately know how to deal with the workload, and then you have the people who just have to experiment and find how you work... Such a rambley comment, but TLDR you did an amazing job and it's going to take time to grow into confidence and understanding on how uni works. big congrats and hugs on your results, enjoy Croatia with all your heart!

I would say that Cambridge exams also don't reflect what you enjoy or are good at. I've just finished 2nd year Classics at Cambridge and my lowest grade this year was also the topic I enjoy the most and am planning to do in third year and do my dissertation on. Stick with the things you love, because it always easier to work when you enjoy the topic

Congratulations! I'm starting Uni very soon and i am TERRIFIED haha. I'm studying Forensic Psychology and i have no idea how i'll study from all the textbooks and not write out the whole thing. I'm awful at notes and figuring out what should go into papers. BUT i hope i can do as well as you in my first year!! I'm so happy for you. Watching your videos calms me down and motivates all in one haha.

im the same as you, physics was always my worst subject but the one im most interested in and now im starting my degree in it, i say go with what you will enjoy the most! well done on results :) x

It's so weird isn't it? 😂 I have close to zero interest in physics and absolutely love chemistry, but according to results i'm more competent in physics. It could be because we are so invested in the subjects we like that we overthink about them too much when it comes to exams, so we often find ourselves speculating instead of answering factually haha.

Congrats Paige! ✨ I also tend to struggle with believing in myself, even though I´ve been really active in class regularly. In the end, this year I finished A-levels as one of the best out of all students my year (thanks for motivating me). Only that made me realize that I stress myself too much and that I don´t value my efforts enough. So definitely be proud of yourself! 🎉 Even if it wasn´t for me being one of the students on top, I would still be happy knowing I worked hard. Enjoy your summer and bring on year two 💃🏼 For me first year at uni only starts in october as well. Quite excited!🎉

Congrats on passing, I know that relief you feel after you think you bombed an exam and it turns out better than anticipated. I'm sure that you'll continue to improve and I look forward to seeing how you get on next year! I recently graduated from my 4 year honours degree in Applied Animal Science and was...disappointed to say the least. My university class thresholds are slightly different from yours, but essentially for a First Class we had to get 79.5% or above overall, and I got 76.8% :( However, an Upper Second Class is still awesome and it has helped me get into a Masters programme! So, definitely don't worry if you sometimes don't achieve exactly what you wanted, I know here you were just happy to pass which is obviously a great achievememt! I love how realistic you are with your goals, but you still believe tou can do well if you work hard enough. I wish you the very best of luck for your studies, keep working hard! You'll get there for sure.

cambridge is overrated just enjoy life at a normal uni, unless u are certain you ONLY want to spend time doing your subject and NO other extracurricular activities, then dont do go to cambridge, u will realise u wont have time to enjoy other aspects of life. honestly theres just no advantage to going to cambridge unless u r naturally very clever and can learn stuff quickly

roboticreality I have numerous friends at Oxbridge and their experiences have been the total opposite. The opportunities to get involved in clubs/societies/sport are as good as, if not *better* than those at other UK universities.

Found this video really interesting. In Norway we have about 3/4 different courses each semester, and at the end of the semester we get a final grade for that course that will be on your diploma. At university we are graded A-F (F fail). I took both my Bsc and Msc in theoretical chemistry, and everything below 40% were a fail. And also my favorite subject was also the one I found most challenging :) Good luck on your second year of uni :)

I know I'm late to the party with this video, but I've been catching up on your videos from the beginning, so I'm only this far through at the mo. I did the "typical" uni experience but actually my favourite bit about uni was the studying and learning - I was and still am a massive geek and I love that side of me. You're a dedicated, hard working student, but you balance studying and enjoying yourself really well - at least that's how it comes across to me in your videos.
