I remember when I had my internship in Singapore a few years back and was surprised to how the food looks similar yet tastes so different from Chinese-Thai food. I'm a Chinese-Thai and is familiar with Southern Chinese food and I feel so warm-hearted to see history and years of evolution in these dishes in each Southeast Asian country. Food is such a transnational thing and it brings people together.

Love your channel, and I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but the English captions on this are hysterical at points! I turned them on to clarify what your friend was saying and I wound up watching the whole thing twice because I was only watching the captions the first time. My favorite was, "really strong, good garlic and it's been injury and Elizabeth street". lol Keep up the great work, man. Can't wait for the next video!

One of the best fish head steamboat place in SG. Go around 5pm and the wait is probably do-able. Any later, you are having your dinner at 8pm. Queue and make your order right inside the kitchen . Order the fried prawn(hae Chor), fried chicken and the fish steamboat and you are set.

Hi Mark, I agree with one of your fans here. You look so identical to Michael Schumacher. Just re look at this video last night and I realize you mentioned squid when describing one of the dishes which is cooked with kang kong or what you would call morning glory. Well I believe many Singaporeans would agree with me it is actually cuttlefish. And if I am not wrong, Daniel did say "cuttlefish". Great you got to know Daniel and other fellow locals. Thanks for this great video. Yes I been there before but parking is a nightmare! God Bless.

I think a little bit of correction is needed for the video. The chicken wings which Marks refer to as Teochew fried chicken wings, is actually Har Cheong Gai (Prawn paste chicken). Its got Cantonese origins, not Teochew. The Teochews are known for their fresh steamed (read healthy) dishes so they normally would not do deep fried food.
@preciousjas9 жыл бұрын
I wanted to say that too but wasn't sure cos who knows they sell teochew wings lol. Daniel is useless in the video
@smutpow9 жыл бұрын
If they actually serve a real Teochew chicken wing, it'll most likely to be braised; not deep fried. BTW who is this Daniel that everyone keeps taunting? (other than the fact he's having dinner with Mark)
@preciousjas9 жыл бұрын
No idea who that Daniel was but he is suppose to be a local who bring guests to eat! But yet he says nothing about the food with introductions and corrections. I feel that that has made Mark a fool saying the wrong things like he didn't get introduced correctly by Daniel before he was brought there to eat. Just my 2 cents worth.
@MarkWiens9 жыл бұрын
+smutpow Thanks for pointing that out and for the extra information about Teochews. My bad about that.

I saw coffee spare ribs in the menu and would have order that for one of its side dishes. Don't see any fish head in the steamboat unless its broth already pre-made from it. Cuttlefish is similar to Squids. Since he is used to calling it Squids, not custom to used the term Cuttlefish.

English is one of the official languages in Singapore and is the most important one. Therefore, Daniel must be able to speak English. In fact, the English proficiency for most Singaporeans is on par with/ better than that of people from many English-speaking countries!
