Fisherman Lands GIANT Flounder of a Lifetime!

I landed a DOORMAT Flounder of a lifetime with the weapon. This is custom 24in rod that was made from a broken rod lol. Old components were also used.

I have been fishing my whole life, in the lower 48 as well as Alaska. Great rod and fun fishing but I must comment on your fishing etiquette. You let the fish beat itself up on the bank, your not gentle about ripping the hook out of the fishes mouth and the one you threw back was dead. If your going to take your fish home, kill it or at least put it out of its misery and if your going to throw it back in the water at least be gentle so it does have the chance of survival for future fishing.

Completely agree. He kept those first two fish out of the water for so long I couldn't believe it. And how do you forget your pliers when you're flounder fishing? Of all the fish you need flyers for with those teeth. I have more scars than I can count on my hand from those guys. I thought he was just going to rip the hook out of that flounder's throat and then throw it back in dead since I'm sure it wasn't a keeper. Turned me off right away

"FUN FISHing" is where it's one after another but it's rare to have it happen too often. Did it once w/ Bull Brim in Atchafalaya Basin/Swamp where I filled a large ice chest up in a few hours & another was Spec's in a place kinda like where you are now except in the dark under a light in about 14inches of water. I laid my pole down w/ the bait hanging in about 14-16 inches of water & caught a fish. Did it over -n- over for an hour before I had to quit. Frenzied fishing is so fun but it doesn't happen enough. I love this.... peace

Nice fish. And plenty of them!! We catch some slabs here in Southeastern NC. Some of the biggest in the country. Cape Fear River region. 28"-30" flounder are not uncommon. PS.. I like that short rod. Never seen one of them for flounder fishing!!

Welcome to real fishing. Always the lightest size you can get away with. Most guys never go bigger than 1/8 or 1/4 oz unless you have current or really deep water, and if you're using a double rig you can go lighter on each because you have to think of the weight of both added together

I caught a doormat a few years ago that looked like she had swallowed a baseball. When I cut her open, she had a 13 inch trout rolled up in her stomach. And she was still feeding. I'm not a flounder guy I've never got the touch for it. I was king fishing on the old ocean crest pier at Oak Island NC early in the am at first light. Puppy drum hitting then shut down. I was dropping a 3 inch grub under the pier jigging. The picture is engrained in my mind. I can see my jig come up next to the piling and a monster flounders mouth like slow motion come up and swallow it. The mouth was the size of a big large mouth bass. My adrenalin instantly surged. I cranked quick and the line got heavy...it's on! It jerked and head shake it's gone that fast. I've never been a flounder guy.

man ive never seen anyone catch that many damn flounder,when i was a kid we had a beach house in galveston ok this was in the 70's m dad caught some huge fish back then,trout,flounder he caught one flounder he was thinking about getting mounted it was so big,still have pics,i guess he didnt want to be bugged with constantly taking fish off my line so he taught me how to fish,i was friggin 3 years old,i have pics of me holding the fish,my rod and reel,then next pix holding the fish down on the ground removing hook with my hands then next picture holding the fish in one hand and my rod and reel in other hand at age 3,plus i was already swimming like a fish at that age,sun burnt from sitting there fishing all day haha
