Tacos are great food to bring when going fishing. When I was a little kid, my uncle asked me on a fishing trip "Could you carry the taco box?" -- I fondly did, expecting to have a nice meal at the end of the trail on the river bank. I was disappointed when my uncle opend the "taco box", and it was full to the brim -- with _only lures!_ (he had sandwiches in his backpack though ; ) )

hey juanelo! nice catch of fish! i'm surprised there isn't more perch on you lake with the size of it and food source for them. but it was a nice perch! still you got to love bluegills, they will bite anything. refried beans with bacon, and fish tacos. my mouth is watering and will have to try! thanx as always, the both of you, for posting another fun video!
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Freeb! This is strange, but there never have been a lot of perch in the lake for the 30 years I've been fishing it. I even stocked hundreds some years ago, but the catch rate stayed the same, about a perch a month! Yet, the perch have always been fairly large. Bluegills are my mainstay! Try these refried beans! They were as good as from any Mexican restaurant! Fish tacos, no matter how they're assembled, are always delish. Thanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my friend!

Hi Michael! That's a great question! My dad didn't like fishing. He told me to take up golf! LOL! But i was enthralled by it, I don't know why. John. Your shows are soooooo professional now! Beautiful videography, composition and editing. I don't know how you do it all on a phone...Penn & Teller would be stumped! That TRD was hot and the fishing was so much fun. Wow, beautiful perch again. The tacos, beans and fake rice looked like an especialidad de la casa in a 4 star restaurant! Yummy yummy. Of course Miss Lulu's opinion about "simple things" is shared by many of her gender and a constant fear for ours - hahahaha. Terrific show, start to finish. Well, leaf raking season is here and I'm sure to "bag" some nice ones.... ;) all the best from Jefferson City, Don, Brenda and Lorraine
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Don! Half of the time that I'm out on the water I'm fiddling with the iPhone camera! I'm constantly deleting unproductive clips or adjusting the framing (no viewfinder!). And yes, I do have to employ a little trickery to make the "face cast" match the "water landing." I don't remember where I found this fish taco recipe, but it sure was delicious! Of course I'm a very simple guy, but I happen to know Lulu is OK with that, despite the stone-hearted lines the scriptwriter has her recite! LOL! Thanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my friend! All the best to you, Brenda, and sister, Lorraine!

Hi Dan! In all fairness, that metal taco holder was meant for the hardshell tacos, and not my big flour tortillas! Perch are a tender and sweet fish that much like bluegill but better! Hey Juanelo! Why don't you stock the lake with more yellow perch? Are the undersized bass preventing you from doing this?
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Rogue! I've tried that once a few years ago. I added hundreds! There was NO change in the catch rate. The perch have always been few and far between, but always of good size. This was the case even before when the bass were all healthy, before the grass carp ate all the weeds. So I don't think the bass had any effect. Hi Connor! That's a great idea! It may be difficult though because the fish I catch are so small and thin, and barbecue requires a long cooking time. Maybe the fish would dry out? I promise to look into it though. Thanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my friend!

Great video friend, why don't you stock some more perch? You are right they are the best eating fish
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Tbone! I've tried that once a few years ago. I added hundreds perch and they weren't cheap! There was NO change in the catch rate. They have never been numerous, but they're delicious! hanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my friend!
@TboneR-jy5sp7 жыл бұрын
Juanelo1946 thank you for the reply. When I was little, a friend of the family had a couple acre pond. He would stock perch also without success. His would get huge but constantly full of worms unlike the bass, walleye, and trout he had.
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
The worms were maybe yellow grubs. They're very common in perch, but they're harmless once the fish is cooked. Interesting though!

Nice tacos. That's the first low carb bean recipe I've seen. those taco racks are a little small for those big tortillas. Maybe lengthwise
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Lyle! LOL!! Yes, lengthwise! I know the metal taco holders are great. I've seen you use them successfully. But they weren't meant for these big flour tortillas. The refried beans were indistinguishable from those I've made from actual black beans! I could barely believe my mouth! Thanks a million for looking in and leaving the good words!

Hello again Juan! Great episode! I got two questions, you often catch "small" bass and "big bluegil" but aren't the small bass still larger than the big bluegil? My second question is, how come you never leave the skin on the fish?
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Valkyrie! Those are great questions! Yes, the small bass are usually the same size or larger than even the biggest bluegill. There are a few recipes I've done where I left the skin on. They are very tasty that way! Most of the recipes I find however are for fillets with the skin removed. In addition, it's faster to fillet the fish and remove the skin, than to scale the fish while leaving the skin on. Thanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my friend!

You say that your beans are just like real refried beans...Juan they ARE real refried beans. You make just like I do except for the cream ( I use milk) I haven't bought "real" refried beans since we got the high powered blender. I make great hummus too. Great video and keep em coming. Your friend and admirer in Montana. Dan
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan in Montana! Wow, you know cooking! Because my refried beans were made from (low-carb) soy black beans, I feared they would be dismissed as not authentic. Likewise, I used cream only because it's a bit lower in carbs than milk! I love hummus! I've never made it myself though. You should do a video on it, and if you don't I will! LOL! I sure do appreciate your watching! I especially appreciate your kind comment my friend!

Hi MLWYT! I would love to make a video catching salt water fish. Maybe some day... It's so much easier to step out the front door and hop in my own boat. @lemoncrinckles7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Juanelo. So much fun watching you cast and fish. Some of them were real fighters, and that perch was beautiful! This will show how dumb I am: are there actually restrictions on the kind of lures used to tempt bass? Everything about your meal looked really tasty and you always have just the right sides. Too bad your wonderful food isn't the way to Miss Lulu's heart!! (I think it's time she took a turn! lol! ) ... (: .... oops, forgive me; almost neglected to add how seamless the composition and editing is, and how gorgeous the lake appeared.
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Stef! Hahaha! No, no restrictions!! It's just my silliness! It's my little lake so I make up the rules, even the goofiest ones! The tacos, beans and (fake) rice were just the ticket tonight, but not the ticket to Ms. Lulu's heart! LOL! I said to one commenter that poor Ms. Lulu has to recite the most stone-hearted lines that I ought to wring the scriptwriter's neck! Thanks so much for watching these shows and leaving the good words my dear friend!

Thank you for another great video and recipe. Could you please tell me what hand blender you are using. I have tried everything I have and can't get my black soy beans to be smooth like yours. Thanks so much for you help.
@Juanelo19467 жыл бұрын
Hi Sonny! Oh wow, I forgot the name of the hand blender, and it's up in the cupboard at our weekend dingy doublewide. Remind me on Friday, and I'll check it out for you. The first time I tried using black soy beans for refried beans, it turned out gritty! Someone here advised me to blend in much longer. It worked like a charm!!!
