Thanks for a great video. I tried it with steamed Walnut and Maple 1/8" strips. Walnut cracked like crazy. Did you use air dried or kiln dried wood? My walnut is from a 2" x 10" x 60" slab I've had for 40 years. It could be that it is super dry. Will go buy a new piece of walnut and try again. Also just ordered the slot bit. Have been looking everywhere for that!

I used kiln dried lumber. Did you soak the wood over night? You can also add some fabric softener to the water you soak it in to help soften the wood a little. That bit is great!

Got a 2" PVC pipe and try #2 is soaking now with some fabric softener and water. Will steam and try again.

@@Statedwoods soaked in warm water and fabric softener for two days then 2 hours in steam box at 210F. It worked!

One more question. At about the 9:55 mark you show the glue up and have a small gap between the handle and strips. Did you close that up with clamping pressure or fix it after the glue dried with glue and saw dust or another technique? I hope to be gluing up my first net in a week or so.

I did close it up with clamping pressure. A better clamping setup would have been ideal. You already know how to fix any small issues too it sounds like so good stuff

I'm curious how this holds up. Looks like there's a very small amount of glued material holding the net onto the handle.

Nice work. Have you ever tried just soaking the strips in hot water before bending? Just curious.

I have not. I have a friend that did that. It worked fairly well. The water did not stay warm for long enough.
