Your body is definitely well trained and powerful, but it is great to know the secret to sustainable external is a strong foundation.. I guess we can say that often people in other parts of the world miss the foundation of the Asian martial arts by rushing into only seeking how to develop physical strength and fight capability, and miss out on the philosophies and internal disciplines that carry you for life, and also give you physical strength and fight capability.

He actually means the secret practices to develop strength speed and power which he very slightly showed a fraction of and I can't even explain to you like he couldn't or else we'll be killed like Bruce Lee was for showing things like the 1 inch punch and his speed. It doesn't really mean all that spiritual stuff honestly dude the art is designed to kill someone and when the art became modified for Buddhism it lost all movements that would easily fuck someone up really bad like it's kinda scary dude. My dad was trained by an ex navy seal one of the first trainers, the very best hand to hand instructor in fact out of all the other seals who are also deadly. These original seal trainers when they changed from demolitions to what they are now we're taught by a Chinese man lol and it is quite literally Kung Fu before it was altered to take the kill moves out. There is literally hundreds if not thousands of movements, where boxing only has 3 with variations. My God you poor people, I wish everyone could feel like I do. Nobody short of having a gun at a distance can stop me it's so unfair. You can believe me or not it doesn't change anything.

@Neil Wiggs - Yes, the stamina, strength & balance exercises that these guys do are extreme and requires insane practice sessions several times each day - I think that they only take one day off per week. Their practices go for 6-8 hours each day. They are professionals, so they don't have to go clock in at work, do their 8 hrs then clock out and go train. They train, train, train. It's a military life. Americans need to keep things in perspective - most of us must work to support ourselves, then hopefully have enough money left over to pay tuition at a martial arts school for training. This is fine ! No one needs to become a Shaolin Monk, in order to be a productive martial artist. No one needs to become the most fearsome martial artist that has ever walked the earth, in order to have the skills to protect themselves. The people that run their yap the most about martial arts, are the ones that sit and watch kungfu movies and little else. Then they want to give their "perspective and philosophy" on the martial arts. The best students are the ones that work, pay their tuition at the martial arts school, give every training session their all, train their way up through the ranks the way the rest of us have to do - the best thing about true martial artists, is that they don't say much at all about their training - they just do it.

The difficult thing with explaining what he wants to say but doesn't have the words to describe is understanding the ability of the muscle tendon system to compress into the tightest ball and expand into the broadest stance and everything in between... movement is the key and understanding how the internal membranes restrict your movement and stiffen the joints is the pivot for change. Moving in certain ways like figure 8's for example between the hips and shoulders, highlight how the internal affects your ability to move smoothly in full circumferential patterns adding weapons increases this by adding further moment arms that stress the system . Once you release the membrane system it allows your joints to open up enhancing your flexibility and improving your chi flow, which enhances your health. Love this guy

I do more modern style combat training. So this was a pleasant surprise. The kicks were similar to the stretching kicks we perform before training. We also do numerous splits warm ups, and lots of leg stretches and half splits. We also do breathing exercises and practice from several of the stances you demonstrated. While its all purely for warm up, and none of that directly applies to the actual fighting, I was taken aback to see it all here and quite pleased if I might add. The brush thing was cool too. After lifting, i always shake out, and then do light strikes, more like slaps across my body to wake it back up. It's particularly good for me since my health is poor, and I often can't train properly, so I have to do a lot of slow exercises and conditioning.

@@igorka9354Yes, most extreme cases are genetic disorders granted, people who have to do strength work to lessen their high risk of injury. But there are different ways of stretching passive or forced ballistic stretching that won't give you much strength but will increase flexibility. Especially when starting young. The high amount of injury in some schools for professional ballet is an example. Combining dynamic stretching, and holds are best for healthy mobility with less risk of injury. For example PNF is very effective, even then pairing with strength moves would be best for health.

This is THE profound truth of all martial arts that gets overlooked by outsiders and combat proponents. Cultivation of a body/spirit union and overall health is really the only goal and everything else is ancillary and consequential. What the master said is so true. Most of the Kongfus are not designed for fighting, but for body health. For example, the traditional Chinese martial arts routine is designed to make people's muscles, ligaments, bones and internal organs more healthy. Chinese traditional martial arts are not trying to be faster, more powerful, or better angle with the laws of physics to hit the target faster and harder. Sanda, Tang, etc., which evolved from traditional Chinese martial arts, are thoes that designed for fighting and killing.

Yes the few that were developed within the more recent time of history are the most developed in the world because they proven in warfare and have remained throughout the the dominant nations in the history of civilization (i.e. Pancratium, Roman-Greco Wrestling). The fuck are you talking about? And now, in our time we have a method of sharing martial knowledge throughout the world and do so in competitive forms of sport, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) being a prime example.

@Wade nobise Any of those will help you, but the problem is when you practice all of them you get contradictions. For example, Systema and Wing Chun are about no tension, flowing movements. Whereas boxing just an example is a lot more tensed up. I understand the concept that it's good to know many different tools so you have the right one for the right job but in reality, it's probably better to master a striking art and master a grappling or ground art to the point where muscle memory does the work. Regardless though keep training and keep having fun ^^
@Drpissed5 жыл бұрын
@Wade nobise In that case definitely keep on with your TKD, it's pretty deadly. If you blast somebody full force with a roundhouse to the chest you're breaking ribs and they won't want to fight you anymore. For evading strikes and situational attacks, look into Krav Maga, Systema, Silat. They've got some great defence techniques because all's fair in a life or death street fight

Sifu is most correct in ssaying the body must first be right. In terms of self defence, most 'fights' are over very quickly if your body is correct. One or two blows to a sensitive area when your body is strong would see you prevail in that moment, against a single opponent.

Think of it this way, kung gu is a way of life. It encompasses fitness, flexibility, peace of mind, and over all well rounded health while you gain strength and technique. It’s martial applications are more of an added bonus than its central focus in my opinion.

@MVP MVP In what he said of circulation and your mentioning massage. It is well known in massage that all knots in muscles are pockets of toxins. When pumping a muscle major amounts of toxins are rushing there same as injury that a major block of any part of the whole bodies "circulatory" system will trigger new vessels to grow around blockage as every square inch of flow from head to toe is needed. This to me is an amazing way to knock loose anything accumulating that you cannot see to send somewhere (your kidneys) to be eliminated. Bet this guy never needs a massage.

a year ago, I started doing tai chi, qi gong and kung fu at a local place. I was very out of shape.. had lost some weight but was still overweight and had really bad flexibility. after a few months I started feeling better. Then one week I had a dancing episode and we also learned a new form that had a rapid 180 degree twist and a leg sweep... I have a torn disc and having nerve trouble now as well. the pain started the week of these two events. that was last May and I'm still dealing with the pain. I have basically lost all my strength in my legs because I don't get to move a lot at work and when I get home I just lie down. I'm so sick of this. I miss the martial arts classes. :(

Don't just do the motions , feel the nerves connecting to your muscles especially your back from the toe and heel up to your hips and lower back ..most probably your hip is misalligned due to sitting a lot .. connect to your body , breathe a deep diaphragm breathe while executing , no ones gonna care if your tummy is bulging .. therefore BREATHE ! usually people don't breathe deep because they wanna hide their tummy unconsciously, take the effort to try and breathe the deepest you can stuffing air inside your diaphragm and know that your body is designed to heal when you breathe deep . Start with the breathe ..

Edwin Chin I do computer drafting for work. I have an adjustable desk so I alternate standing and sitting but I have to stand so much because it is so painful to sit. Because I stand so much my legs get very bad knots, go numb, tingle, have shooting pains. All kinds of stuff. The right leg is the worst. It is so swollen behind my knee and has bad knots. I try to massage them, go outside for walks sometimes or use a tens machine but doesn’t seem to do much. I have been to many docs. Can’t afford physical therapy. The back problem is not bad enough for surgery. They said I just have to wait until it heals but bc blood flow to the spine is not much it will take a long time.
