If you are a beginner, I would STILL recommend doing barbell or dumbbells first, because your muscles not ready for that high of an activation which is in cables. So for the initial 3-6 months, free weights are perfectly fine. Focus much more on form.

One more best exercise which I keep 1st in my bicep workout is Chinups... edit- change workout routine after every 1 and 1/2 month...control and slow down concentric as well as ecentric of the movement for good results

When u are at standing position during preachure machine curls, then also u cheat using your scapula. Maybe possible aap cheat nhi karte ho but mostly people can cheat on this. Also it is more convenient to sit( full focus on bicep only) and curl as compared to standing ( focus divided in curls and maintaining standing posture). It may suit you( standing) but for begineers and intermediate it may not be that convenient. **Totally my openion. U may agree or disagree.

sir i have a doubt (beginner here). If we are involving other muscles during free weight exercise, isn't it a good thing as during normal day to day activities, we will involve other body parts too. eg: if we are doing standing barbell curls, we are also trying to balance using other muscles. But on a machine we are not focusing on that aspect.

In free weights you take power from other parts of body,whereas in machine either you are seating or standing but the weight will not move.It'll move in particular way. But for some muscle we prefer free weights like deadlift for back,press for chest as these are compound movement it helps in boosting testosterone level which is most important hormone for bodybuilding. For small muscle group like bicep and tricep you should use machine as it'll involve only one muscle as he explained. As a beginner, machine are good for you as your form should be correct to avoid injury. Thank You जय श्री राम ॥
