You are so very right, for an Indian Religion Is in house and personal, the political class starting from Neheru till today 2014, have used religion to divide for their Vote Bank Politics. Look at them and blaming the British of doing it. the same old trick of blame game.,

Well presented. India is plural society, religion is unimportant practiced at home in privacy. The economically challenged are the collective of masses that go out in processions even those include all religions. People are more concerned about maintaining peace and stability among each other and go out of the way to accommodate each other.

However, I feel we (Indians) mainly leave a mark on the world as being brave, enduring, even ruthless when the time comes yet generally gentle in our approach -like our armies. No hard feelings. Poverty is due to 800 years of foreign slavery. Before the invaders came to India ( doors opened SUFIs ) there were NO poor people in India, and Kohinoor laden India was the richest country in the world . Before the white invader came to India there was NO caste system but only Varna without conflicts .

lol no. China was undivided when British came. Brits sold opium to them and when the Emperor said no, the Brits totally annihilated them. They had more men than Brits and still lost Hong Kong. Then they had to sign a peace treaty to keep the Brits at the bay. India was not at all backwards technologically. Most of the kingdoms were equipped with muskets and stuff. Infact, in rocket propulsion and some other high end engineering, we were quite ahead of time. Try reading about Mysorean rockets. The Brits copied the design and used it heavily against other European powers. You should know that India was not an isolated third world region back then. The only reason it fell to the British was because of internal strife.
@DipakBose-bq1vv
@DipakBose-bq1vv 5 жыл бұрын
@@SwapnilSemwal India had two opposite religions when the British came. The British occupied Bengal because the Hindus supported the British. Jagat Seth and Artun Petreous gave two lakhs of Rupees to Robert Clive to bring new soldiers from Madras and the commander of Siraj the subedar of Bengal were bribed with additional money coming from the Hindus. East India Company preferred the Hindus. It is the same story everywhere. In 1857 Bengalis refused to support the rebels because they were afraid that if the British get defeated it would mean the Muslims would come back to power. India before the British were not a free country; Muslims used to be the rulers. To get rid of them Hindus supported the British. China had no such problem.
@SwapnilSemwal
@SwapnilSemwal 5 жыл бұрын
@@DipakBose-bq1vv And? I never said there was no internal strife amongst Indians, nor did I say China had them. Freedom of people is not a simple term. The French fought for their independence against a French king, so did the Russians. Freedom is a very elastic term. Freedom depends upon ones perspective. A more clear term for India under British is "colony". India under British rule was a colony, but not under Muslim rule. Anyways, talking about Bengal, it contained more muslim population percentage than the region in close proximity to delhi. The british simply attacked the weakest link in the empire, as Bengal had been facing political turmoil with the nawabs gaining more autonomy and Delhi losing its grasp. British EIC preferred profit. They fought against Hindus in Delhi and against Muslims in Mysore. Bengal was the most important trade region in east India with political instability, so the British seized the opportunity. When the Muslims rebelled they used the Hindus against them, and when the Hindus rebelled, they used the Muslims. In regions such as Maharashtra where the population was almost all Hindu, they used caste divide recruiting lower castes to fight against the upper castes, symbolized by the Maratha army. They did not belong to India, hence they shared no ideology with the Indians. They could chose whichever side was favorable for them because they had no inherent representation in the Indian culture.

The speaker has forgotten to mention that India has inspired a lot of technological as well as intellectual upbringings. Poverty is in every country, may it be in USA, England or any other country. Its just that India doesn't have a social security that provides money from tax payers to support unemployed or jobless people. In India Darwins theory prevails, ie survival of the fitess, if ur a weakling you die else you survive. Education and intellectual upbringing is part and parcel of our tradition and custom, which should be highlighted.

as a taxpaying Indian citizen, I need to inform you that most of my taxes go to poor people. And with the new food security bill, burden on me will increase even more. Indian government uses middle class taxpaying citizens(which are less than 10% of the population) as the source of their money and power. India has the biggest social security in place.

In fact, the government provides so much subsidy for farmers, small scale industries, lower economy groups, the underprevileged, and so on, that there is always a deficit in their budget. So I do not think Indian govt. does not take care of social security. It 'is' there. Its just that it's not formalized the way it is in US, and many other countries.

No USA doesnt have poverty. It has very high standard of living and anyone below that is poor. e.g. If you are a 3 person family, you have to rent 2 bed apartment as a law! There is addiction issues because of which people cant hold jobs, which are available in plenty. Others collect unemployment checks.

As a so called upper caste Brahmin Hindu, I say more power and prestige to the so called Dalits, Scheduled Castes, Untouchables etc. Their dignity is inherent in their humanity and this was much deprived for most of their history. The greatest enemy of Hindus have been Hindus and not others. Sadly this tragic fact is still lost on Indians.

Read the history of Jews in Kerala. These people came as migrants/refugees during first century even before Christianity started in the middle east because of persecution, and the kings accepted them. Some of them were later converted to Christianity by apostal Thomas. So Christianity in south India is as old as that in middle east & Europe. India is the only country that never persecuted Jews & Christians during 1st century. Very interesting history.

There was a time, when Patrick French, was roundly panned for his historical tomes on India. But over the past two decades, commentary from foreigners is more acceptable. Mark Tully, Patrick French, William Dalrymple, Edward Luce, Daniel Lak, have all published books / commentaries on India. Incidentally, all are English / British. A parallel 'Indian' commentary, half critical / narcissistic exists... Siddhartha Deb, Akash Kapur, Anand Giridharadas, Ramchandra Guha etc.

Hinduism is an artificial colonial construct. That said, the 'religion' is a large corpus of rites, rituals and superstitions. In contrast, Sanatana Dharma (the original corpus) was a spectrum of philosophical debates. And the 'Indian' civilization that used to be has ceased to be. It is now merely a petri dish for commercialism. In this lab-experiment / skin-graft of modernity, Indians are game to acquire any cover, that aides their material 'progress'. That is a very narrow pursuit.

But that almost every speech has the same weepy content about india... sunilMittal(not mittle) and venkatesh the quarry slave figure in multiple ones... very troubling... before telling india/indians how we should be... such speakers should tell their own people how they should correct their own life styles... or generally keep their gyaan to themselves... no one from india goes and tells americans/europeans how they should be living... understand that in the long run it just does not matter... let it be... let people be...

Just 11 years later, with state and central governments focused on cleaning up, India's trash problem doesn't seem so problematic. As the country gets up the ladder of income, people will put more pressure on environmentalism. That's true the whole world over. When you're poor and poorly resourced, your goal is to eat the next meal, not worry about the trash in the river, after all. Dynastic politics too has taken some major hits by the year 2022, as anybody who follows Indian politics can attest. Not saying it's totally been discarded, but certainly voters have been given better choices, and they have picked those-- over and above dynastic considerations.

Virtual extinction of tigers? Our tiger populations have come back from the brink of extinction in the 70s. Inspite of such a huge population we have actually managed to preserve most of our large mammals. And why do you think there is no central environmental policy? God knows where this is coming from. In fact we had the British mindset of looking at forests only as a resource to exploit and that was changed in the 70s when detailed environmental laws were formulated and our wildlife has actually improved since then. We have a full fledged ministry of environment and climate change with separate wings looking at environmental degradation/pollution and wildlife and forests with a strong central policy. We also have the only Green Tribunal in the world which is an independent court which has power to rule against development programmes threatening natural heritage areas. There is no country with such a high population density with so much of the large wildlife existing. It is a good lesson not a bad one. The bad lesson is that of countries like the UK or other European countries where your native wildlife is almost finished. The bad lesson is China where they have decomated their large wildlife, especially like tigers, slaughtering them for medicine.

Someone said here said China developed fast and so did Israel, leaving India still in the bullock cart age. Well, let us leave Israel out of this discussion. It is a puny little country hanging on the biceps of Uncle Sam. It may have developed but it is a security state, constantly at war with the neighbours and thinks coerction is the only way for peace. Yes, China has made a lot of progress but much of that has come from an autocratic regime that has strict control of who should live where, who should have how many children etc etc. There is tremendous environmental degradation that is happening in China due to massive shift of human capital from rural to urban centers. Many big cities in China are unlivable, covered with smog! This is their model! So, progress at what cost? In India, poverty is visible but progress happens with consensus. So, a big company wanting to mine Bauxite ore in Orissa was denied permission by the local tribals because it was considered exploitative and would lead to uprootment of their lifestyle, livelihood. Now, u may argue what kind of lifestyle they had! Well, it is up to them to decide. No outsider can tell anyone how he/ she has to live. Ultimately, we have to define what progress is. Is it the western model of consumerism that goes in the name of progress? On the question of India being in a bullock cart age, well recently India sent a GSLV rocket putting a satellite in geosynchronous orbit, joining a group of 5 other elite group of nations who can do this. This group includes China but not Israel. It has also sent a rocket on mission to Mars, called Mangalyaan. Clearly, the guy who wrote that India is in bullock cart age still is smoking some hot stuff freely available on the Afghan-Pakistan border. Or else, he is a plain moron. You make the pick.

I agree. We don't want the western meaning of progress. That meaning only means that people become slave to their base desires and slaves to corporations. I mean one look at the pathetic black Friday videos is all I need to deny that. However, we need to develop spiritually and materialistically... People need to be more spiritual aware of themselves and gain knowledge (different from education) which will enlighten them and set them free of ignorance. Sadly we are only focused on the material part.

avis119 this is because India is the largest democracy and due to this the country is more central and it concludes things such as stock shares and bonds. the other reason why I have stated this is because the government has its capital at north... that's is where all of the economic look is at even though GDP is mainly produced in the southern states which has had an affect of India's 6% increase in software markets.... if you want to argue this out or something feel free to email me :)

India got independence 1947, Israel in 1948, China in 1949. Both Israel and China have advanced by 30 years, leaving Indians in the bullock age.

israel is a tiny country that lives off American handouts, India speaks 1000+ languages and many more cultures. Israel has one language one culture. When it comes to China, it's an autocratic country unlike democracy in Indiaits mucg=h easier to pass laws than it is in India.

Check your facts.....Mughals, Portuguese and Spanish people converted almost entire population wherever they went! UK ruled over Egypt, China, and many more non-christians areas where the demographic remained almost the same. It has historical background to it. UK empire had relaised the importance of keeping religion and state independent of each other by then. With Mughals, spanish and Portuguese conquests, it was totally embedded together. I have no sypathy with the british...but its a facts.

First off I am not anti Hindu or anti Muslim. I am arguing incorrect assumption you are making regarding India. Hindus convert themselves by various means nobody should be interested in converting them, it comes from within themselves. As far as coexistence is concerned, Hidus from North fought with Dravids and tribes and pushed them to South India and thats what you call Ramanyan so you didn't live in peace with Hindus as well since ages. Even today you don't live in peace with Hindus. Contd...

Why u are saying Hindus are secular it is the Indians. Now what happens to Hindu in Saudi does not effect the rights of people in INDIA and don't be racist. I am living in Punjab and seen lot of blood that has been shed in name of religion so do not even go there where you do not belong. Secularism is the way of INDIA and you can not do shit about it. You have to bear it.

Which hindu land? According to your theory, Hindus came from Iran so they cannot claim it to be their land. Iran tells they are Aryan and some self appointed Hindus claim them to be Aryan so if you are aryan then you don't belong to this land. Land belongs to natives and tribals whom you lable SC/ST or Maoist. Its their land so you should be moving back to Iran. Don't mix Hindu with native owners of the land.

Contd...Your theory of peace it debunked. Look at Raj Thackery. He fights with same Hindus who live in among him. He reflects infested mind that inbreds hate. You don't live in peace with Sikhs and Christian either. Do don't quote Parsis & Jews. I can also say that Christian, Muslims(with exceptions), Parsis and Jews are living peace in India since ages they never fought with each other. Irrespective of religion if I am a native of India, I have full rights and nobody can give or snatch it.

what I do not understand is why the idea of a nation should be based on Religion. As you said Islam and Christianity are transnational but why think of a nation as Islamic or Christian then to be secular. I don't know if you know the freedom history of India but if you knew then u would have understood the notion of secularism better.
