Refs in just about every sport have been known to turn a blind eye to some rules. Occasionally, they’ll turn two blind eyes like Tim Donaghy, or even a Third Eye Blind if James Harden is taking a double step-back “Jumper.” Thank you MANSCAPED for sponsoring this video! 20% OFF Manscaped + Free Shipping code POINT20 at bit.ly/2RIgQmk
The point is, there are some rules that just don’t get called very often, whether it’s for the sake of entertainment, convenience, or not directly leading to a New England Patriots victory.
Some get called out by everyone but the guys in stripes, and some have been so blatantly disrespected that we wouldn’t know they existed outside of a rule book.
Today, we’re counting down the top five blatantly ignored rules in sports. And that’s coming up, right after this.

Diving is still called in football very often (called simulation) and with var it's getting called a lot more
@timothystamm3200
@timothystamm3200 5 жыл бұрын
But inconsistently sometimes the ref buys it, sometimes he doesn't sometimes he thinks someone dived when in fact they were fouled and sometimes they tell a player to get up after "contact" and then let them go upon their business once they stand up. That last one should never happen if te ref thinks they dived he should card them because that is the punishment proscribed by the rules, if there is anything the ref shouldn't let go, then he certainly shouldn't let an attempt to con him go.

This is a fun rule Manfred and his MLB goons forgot about. Rule 8.04 from Major League Baseball's official rules: When the bases are unoccupied, the pitcher shall deliver the ball to the batter within 12 seconds after he receives the ball. Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call "Ball." The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball. The intent of this rule is to avoid unnecessary delays. The umpire shall insist that the catcher return the ball promptly to the pitcher, and that the pitcher take his position on the rubber promptly. Obvious delay by the pitcher should instantly be penalized by the umpire.
@hippokrampus2838
@hippokrampus2838 5 жыл бұрын
The key is the batter has to be alert to the pitcher before the timing starts, to avoid the batter from lagging behind to draw the ball call. Since batters have decided to throw tea parties before getting ready for each pitch, the time between pitches has increased. Very rarely is this rule actually broken because of that clause.
@aceldamia9114

WOW! You mentioned something that every single person in the world knows is a problem already!! AND YOU TOOK THE TIME TO DIRECTLY QUOTE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why single out Manfred, as it isn't something new to him. In fact, he's the only one who has shown interest in trying to do anything about it. No, you're just a fucking piece of shit who wanted a reason to insult him personally. Fucking idiot.

Here's a few more rules in soccer that never get enforced: - Encroaching on a penalty kick, whether it's the goalkeeper coming off the line or another player entering the penalty area (including the D at the top) before the kick is taken. - When a ball goes out for a throw-in, it must be taken within 1 yard of where the ball went out of play, but you always see players cheat up 5, 10, 15 yards. - When a goalkeeper has the ball in his/her hands, they have 6 seconds to put it down or get rid of it. The only time I have seen this enforced was in the semifinal of the 2012 women's Olympic tournament, when Canada got screwed over against the USA.

Mike DiTocco when I was a soccer ref, people (especially coaches) would absolutely lose their minds when I would call the encroachment on penalties and keepers holding the ball too long. It was absolutely ridiculous. It is almost like nobody knows the laws anymore. As for the diving that was pointed out, I would book dives as well and everyone would lose it. It really pisses me off when I see fellow refs let that one go, especially since it is the number one thing that people make fun of.

Elite Soulfly what? A turnover doesn't effect the game? Negating a steal in a full court trap doesn't effect the game? Little kids watching it and replicating it in games doesn't effect the game? Of course it effects the game. Traveling is equal to what? It comes down to sloppy basketball and picking and choosing what's a violation. Why would I watch an 80+ game regular season of extremely highly paid athletes playing almost basketball? Especially when there's a NCAA. I wouldn't. Till playoffs start.

The traveling rule along with the star system are the two things that turned me off completely and permanently to professional basketball. Well, it was also becoming really boring. I've watched maybe one game in the past thirty years and don't miss it. 8:20 I didn't think there were any repeating rifles at the Battle of Gettysburg. Damn. Gettysburg was the first major battle in which they were used. The battle might have been a one day affair if the whole Army of the Potomac had been so equipped. I'm pretty sure there weren't any Confederates to speak of with repeaters.

Not so much in the standard infantry weapon but the cavalry as well as the officers usually carried thd Walker (Navy/Army) Colt revolver.... aa their first choice of weapon... Those horsd soldiers who didn't have one.... Got one some how as it meant life or death... it was famously known as a "horse or hand canon" due to lts weight, powerful kick and overall length of the revolver

@ronalddavis 5 жыл бұрын
The walker colt was first introduced at the time of the Mexican war and gets its name from the commander of a unit who received the majority of the colt walkers.The walker colt was a large revolver and only 1100 were produced. They are a valuable collectors item now and there are thousands of fakes on the market. Due to their scarcity few were used during the civil war. The colt army revolver was widely produced during the civil war and was highly sought after and many were privately purchased. As was the colt navy although it was a smaller caliber. the colt navy was famously used by wild bill hickok. The colt navy revolver had a naval battle scene engraved on the cylinder and so ironically did the colt army. Certain units of the union army had spencer repeaters. The henry rifle was used sparingly and overall more than 90 percent of weapons on both sides were muzzleloaders.After the war the spencer was abandoned because the old fogies in the war department were afraid troops would "shoot too much ammunition" and troops reverted to springfield single shot breechloaders.United states small arms development stagnated for years due to this attitude and resulted in frantic catching up efforts. It was not until the advent of the garand rifle that US small arms took a leap ahead.

Daniel James got 2 yellow cards for diving in his first 2 games in the Premier League this year. He didn't even dive. They definitely enforce the diving rule in soccer. I even got a yellow card for diving at the U-16 level when I tripped over my own feet.

I don’t know if there’s certain criteria I didn’t read about, but I think I read somewhere that in the NHL if you enter the Referee crease than that’s an automatic misconduct penalty. Well I see players darting through it all the time and they don’t get called. Even when a refs in it. Lol

I often hear complaints from fans that "there were a lot of holding penalties that weren't called" in any NFL game. Having worked as an official at the high school level, I can tell you firsthand that we're specifically trained to not call holding unless the hold is so obvious that it can't be ignored or it directly affects the outcome of the play. Why? Because if holding was called every time it happened, offenses would _never_ move forward since there's holding on almost EVERY PLAY. Seriously, rewind the tape of any football game at the high school level or above. I'll bet that, chances are, you can count on one or two hands the number of plays where no holding occurred.

Five points vids actually the nba had a huge issue with pacing before the shot clock as players would get a five or four point lead then hold the ball passing it around for half the game this led to some very low scores and poor attendance. So they did have an issue with pacing until the shot clock was created.

Hey man, hate to inform you because there was a rule that stated a player with possession of the puck may enter the crease, the rule states that a goalie touching the puck does not cause a change of possession, therefore Hull had possession which made him allowed to step in the crease, it was a stupid rule with ONLY one loophole and this was the loophole

Unlike a lot of players today, he was actually a dude that kept on running when he was in the box and lightly fouled rather act like someone just broke his foot. I really don't know where what you said is from. I agree about Ronaldo and Neymar tho.

what about the 8 second rule or position violation in volleyball, they never get called unless blatantly abused: 8 seconds rule, from the whistle of the official the service has to be played within 8 seconds, i stopped times on multiple international games and the average time till service was 13 seconds. position violation, players positions from left to right and front and back can not be changed until the service is played, in international games especially setters but also front court receivers usually violate this rule by a second or more.

I think this should have been number one; Carrying, also colloquially referred to as palming, is a violation in the game of basketball. It occurs when the dribbling player continues to dribble after allowing the ball to come to rest in one or both hands. This happens during just about every dribble of any game by any player now a days.

MLB and basepath rules. Like how fielders are standing in the basepaths even though they don’t have the ball and they are not trying to catch the ball either. Or how runners (particularly right hand batters) run on the inside of the basepath towards first base even though it’s illegal it’s never called except for a few rare moments like the 2019 World Series on Trea Turner.

There is misunderstanding about diving in soccer because you have to go to ground if you been fouled to get a free kick because of the advantage rule. Its only a dive if NO contact is made at all. Its not like basketball where you can score and get the foul its one or the other. Not saying it never happens but it gets caught by the reffs most of the time and yellow cards are handed out. If anything the ignored rule is Foul Throws.

Man, I know what you're saying. I'm from Portugal, Europe so I really do, but in Football(soccer) they do dive a lot, especially in situations(that maybe are not quite a dive) where they get slightly touched and they blatantly jump expressing extreme pain. I think this is what Americans usually talk about, they have huge reactions to basically no contact at all. I understand that as a player you need to sell the foul and it's not their fault at all. Honestly, I hate football(soccer) but I live to see the players' reactions in slow mo😂

Even this video didn't mention the obvious #1 ignored rule. That would be Palming and/or traveling with the ball. When I played (50 years ago) it was strictly enforced. That is why Marquis Haines and Earl Monroe will always be the #1 on my list of great ball handlers. For example Earl did the 360 while driving for a layup with only his fingertips. I played thru college and one year of CBA however, today failure to enforce the rules and Basketball is the only professional sport I don't watch. Doesn't take any real skill to carry the ball 60% of the time.
