I picked up a Race Face Turbine dropper post for $20 on eBay! The only problem is that it's listed as broken because of an air leak. There's no rebuild kits from Race Face!! So can I rebuild and convert this dropper using a kit from 9point8?

You gotta appreciate the simplicity of a Tranz X based dropper after seeing this rebuild. I rebuilt 2 yesterday and it was soo easy... no bullets or springs, just some brass keys and suspension lube. (although mine are quite a bit heavier at 600 grams)

Awesome video, enjoying all your content and keep up the good work! For the Nukeproof ARD inserts you can fix the rattling by doing the installation like the Vittoria tire inserts, this is because the tire insert stretched out by regular use. Basically cutting down the insert to size then zip tying them back together, look at any Vittoria tire insert install video and it will make a lot more sense than me explaining 😂

My bike came with the RF Turbine dropper, and I always had the same issues with leaking air. I replaced it with a PNW Ranier, which is actually much cheaper, but works SOOOO much better! It got a scratch on the stanchion, possibly from something failing internally, and they are replacing it for free under their lifetime warranty. Glad that I kept the old RF, though, as I installed it back on the bike so I can still ride while waiting for the new Ranier. Definitely not going through all this trouble to repair the RF (sometimes time is more valuable than saving a bit of money), but knowing it would only get me $20 on ebay makes it worthwhile to keep around for situations like this.

I had this exact dropper on my last bike and had so many issues with it. When I first picked up the bike it didn't return all the way which was fixed by adding some air to it. But as the season went on and the weather got colder it seemed like the seal wouldn't hold and the dropper got to the point that it wasn't even usable any more. The post would just sink down when you sat on it. Hopefully this rebuild holds up for you, it was a really nice post when it worked right!

You could have saved yourself the headache by using the included key install tool sitting on your workbench that was included in the rebuild kit. That’s what those black parts are. One has a single groove and the other has two grooves and they wrap around the keys making install a breeze! Next time you rebuild it make sure you use the key install tool and save yourself that hour!

@dylan-5287
@dylan-5287 3 жыл бұрын
That's far more difficult than ks or brand x as well, probably pnw too. Never seen that spring between the needle bearings, that looked like hell to fit back together. Normally it's super easy and if the cartridge is gone it's $60. Nice and simple.
@darrenmanning9252
@darrenmanning9252 2 жыл бұрын
@@dylan-5287 that spring is to make the keys constantly expand and take up the slop so you don’t get that excessive side to side rotational play in the saddle like on all other droppers
@dylan-5287
@dylan-5287 2 жыл бұрын
@@darrenmanning9252 do reverbs not have any side to side play? Every dropper I've seen has an incredibly tiny amount. I don't see how the spring would help that though. The bars themselves are what stop lateral play, I can't see how having the spring keep the bar higher would change that. From the amount of frustration showed in the video, I don't see that as worth it. I've never noticed the lateral play in a dropper unless I'm off the bike examining it. Reverb is overly complicated imo. I've never had one but I've almost universally seen people say they're a headache and constantly need servicing. Stick to mechanical operation for droppers. Hydraulic is great for brakes but there's a reason you don't see hydraulic drive trains or droppers in general.

It's funny someone else recommended that bike today too. I think it'd be very very difficult to find a quality fork for that bike. I'm talking anything above the entry level air forks, all because of the straight steer tube. Plus it has a 71 degree head angle, so the geometry is very out of date. I wish they'd update that bike. The market is in need of a modern full suspension under $700
