The way i clicked so fast. I love your videos as a new flower gardener. You have the loveliest personality and I love your laid back way of life and when you show us the cows it makes my day

Oh thank you so much, you’re very kind. I’m glad you like my cows. I love them more than my flowers!!….which is a lot 😊

You get the flower netting from hydroponic suppliers. Mine was sold at 2m wide so I spent an hour or two cutting it in half lengthwise. And yes, you can definitely reuse it, although make sure you get a flat bit of ply or cardboard to wind it onto or you have a hideous job untangling it. It's incredible stuff - extremely strong and a brilliant product for flower farmers.. I don't bother ordering seeds any more - they just all pop up next year and I wrangle them into rows..😅

We have the floret here on our flower farm on the south coast and only the smaller little flower girl and the dawn creek have started flowering for us. Ive just planted in the 3rd succession of floret and other zinnia but have found that we can still be harvesting blooms in about April so Im not getting too distressed about it not flying into flowers. I cross pollinated last year using the organza bag method but i think if i can tape down my netting tightly enough i may place my native stingless bee hive box inside the enclosed garden bed for 48 hours and let the little bees go to work for me and then cover as many of the blooms as I can with organza bags so that i can get something hopefully similar to the original zinnia next season. I collected all of my own cosmos seed last year from the different varieties that i purchased and grew them up this year without having to purchase any seed. Ive just finished harvesting our 10 different varieties of sweet pea pods and will probably sell some of those as mixed bags of seed to other home gardeners this season. I missed a dahlia that had gone to seed in my mixed bed so grabbed those seeds and threw them into some trays today and will see if they germinate for me before the end of the season. I found that the ranunculus and tulips for us where only about a 4-5 week window of blooms due to the early heat this year, my plan for next season is to cover the entire bed with 70% shade cloth int the hope of keeping the soil cooler and hopefully getting a few more weeks from the blooms. I went to the big dig at Floriad and cut off all of the seed heads that people were just throwing onto the ground and brought home about 150 seed heads which i dried and have kept all of the seeds. There is way too much of it for one gardener but if i can do a patch of 1st year starts hopefully next year i will be able to sell them as potted ranunculus from our farm stand. Im so refreshed to see another farmer struggling to keep up with the weeding, it does my head in. Happy New Year to you and your family. Our Floret Flower scholarship starts very soon and Im really excited to get in and learn whatever I can. Cheers Theresa

Sounds like you’re flat out too! Weeding sucks lol. I cleared out some beds today, some spring crops that have started to go over. Making space for when hardy annual for next spring and bulbs need to go out. Never ending cycle!

@@bloomsonthehill6207 I have been trying to watch the floret series through our online course but it just wont allow me to watch it no matter what I do. Are you able to watch her documentary series? I don’t know what Im doing wrong to not be able to watch it.

Hi, the Floret documentaries are through the Magnolia network which we don’t get here in Australia.

Happy New Year! If you're doing weddings, you might like to grow Orlaya, it's my first year growing it but I love it, interesting lace that's different to the usual. And they go to seed and they still look great as seed pods.

Feverfew and apple mint propagate ridiculously fast from cuttings. I’ve been trying to do more division and propagation this year. Snapdragons too. Zinnias and dahlias seem so intimidating but I’m sure they propagate just like anything else. Just love a good review video. Thanks!!! I didn’t grow zinnias last year because I thought Sahara rudbeckia would replace them but did miss them. Good that your husband is an enabler! I feel like Floret must have known that Johnnys was about to release and beat them by a year😂
@bloomsonthehill62072 күн бұрын
I should take cuttings but then it’s just another thing to do! I don’t have much luck with them, only easy things like geraniums.

Lavatera......agreed, love it, but l have to stake or it falls over. It tends to wilts in the heat, but recovers, and after cutting, the buds just keep opening. Trying to be environmentally conscious, l also did the jute netting last year, but, yes, it deteriorates very quickly & keeps breaking, so l have gone to plastic. Much better. Think l got mine on ebay. Still waiting on my Precious Metals zinnias. Persian cress....gave up on that because last year it was chocka block full of grubs. Another, l am giving up on is Billy Buttons. I started growing in netting because grubs would get in the flower heads and make them fluff out, and my plants tend to struggle and frankly look awful & scraggly, so l have decided for the little harvest l get off it that it is not worth the space. Lovely to see your farm. Thanks for the tour. 😊

Great tour and discussion,I kept agreeing with you on so many things. It does take time to learn your own microclimate and major on what does well. Good to see different sales opportunities presenting for you. Putting in drip irrigation this year is life changing, I made several circuits, I’m in a much drier climate.
@bloomsonthehill62072 күн бұрын
I can’t wait to be able to water properly with irrigation. It’s going to be a game changer. It’s been such a confidence boost to have somewhere to sell my flowers this year.

That's great your Floret zinnias worked out. A lot of growers in the states had issues and I heard they might not be offered again. I hope you charged a little more for them per steam to off set the price.

There aren't a lot of established cut flower farmers in my area and I was so excited to start and learn but when I found out that I needed extra insurance, it put me off. You're a great inspiration for me. I think in 2025 that I should just go for it. I've learnt enough now to make a start and if it doesn't work out then all that's lost is one insurance payment. I can grow a fair amount in my 4 beds and if needed there's more room out back. 🥳🎊💐🥂🍾🥂💐🎉 °•・*ᥫ᭡¸¸.•*¨*•,,Happy New Year, 2025 🥳💐🎊🥂🍾🥂💐🎉🥳

Tip, I didn’t worry about insurance. I have cover on the house anyway, obviously, and we have public liability insurance, but I don’t have anyone here. Just go for it!
@downunderveggiegardendiaries2 күн бұрын
But are you selling them for a lot more per stem than normal zinnias. If not that is why they want yours.
@bloomsonthehill62072 күн бұрын
Yes I am, although I have seen a comment from a local florist who said they don’t care if they are fancy floret ones, they are just interested in the colours. Probably can’t charge outrageous prices for them.
