I started using the tying technique you used for tying down material today in my bulkheads. It works so well! 👌

Thank you - ur passion makes you a great instructor. I’ve been tying mullet patterns lately w/ep crab brush for the head packed & trimmed tightly which also traps air and gives a good subsurface spook retrieve. I’m now going to coat w/silicone !

Great videos because you think about the reasons and purposes for each design! Please give me your thoughts on this: I've used bucktail to build bulk by spinning a wheel of it under the Squimpish. But I've switched to stacked Strung Fuzzy Fiber (or any s-bend synthetic) with Squimpish veiled over it. I call it a material dam. Weighs almost nothing. Squeezes down when the fish bites, then springs back. I call the series the Fat Man, with thanks to you. Comments please.

It just occured to me that rinse aid (that is used for the dishwasher) would be an excellent photo flo replacement :)

Beautiful looking fly. (Like always) This vid is 3 years old, but I wanted to share a product with you're viewers. I've been experimenting with a product from Dap called Ultra Clear. "Flexible all purpose Waterproof sealant". The caulking tube it comes in is clear plastic. And the product inside is almost as clear as water. It goes on and spreads very similar to silicone. Some of you might want to check this out.

Nice Gunnar! Can Extra Select Craft Fur be substituted for Squimpish Hair on smaller flies? The Squimpish Hair is not available in Canada yet. Have lots of long bucktail, guess that I can just tie the Chosen One with that.

Several comments mention fly weight issues. What weight line would you recommend to cast a Chosen One with the silicon head. I tied a few on size 6 SL11-3H. I only get two iterations of BT and SF. I cast this smaller fly on 9ft 7wt. It worked well on a tapered 6-7 ft leader. When I went to a longer straight 15lb fluorocarbon leader it was dying at the end of my cast. Hence the question regarding line weight for a fly like this tied on a Gamakatsu 4/0 SL12S. Loved the video of the fly in the water.

Hey Gunnar great video! Any additional info you could provide or possibly a SBS of the BEAST version you showed swimming? Is the BT and squimpish all hollow ties and 360 displaced around the hook shank? Also, what's the head material?

I hate the vinegar smell of silicone. How does what you use smell? Have you found a scent free silicone?

Hi Gunner, love you fly tying man, I am looking at buying the TRV vice and would like some advice please. Do you use the C clamp or base, I just thought having the C clamp might be Better for the larger flies?

Always clamp your vise. I am not sure when everyone started using pedestal fly vices? They are great if you are in the wilderness and have nothing to clamp to. For me, the last thing I need to worry about is my fly tying vises moving!! This is my opinion!

I also found an unscented clear dish soap that works really well and saves me a lot of money compared to the price of photo-flo.

Is fuzzy fiber something like really long trilobal dubbing?
@zafotbeeb
@zafotbeeb 4 жыл бұрын
NO it is just a course crinkled fiber. I personally don't like it at all. I find wool fleese and rams wool easier to use and way cheaper if you get it from a wool supplier (Ebay) rather than a fly shop.
