Excellent video and I do use Airmap everytime I fly. Is there an updated version of this video for 2017. For example, I see more and more municipalities passing ordinances regulating drone flight (where, when, how high, etc), but it is my understanding that the FAA is the only governmental body that can regulate the airways. If that is the case, then the municipal ordinances would seem to be invalid. The situation is complicated further by the recent court ruling that recreational drone pilots do not have to register their drones.

Actually, this clears up some questions that I had. If I'm flying for fun...My airspace is filled was I need to call the tower. If I had part 107 there are fewer spaces...from my understanding. I could be wrong.

great app but doesn't include info on local ordinances like in the City of Los Angeles you specifically can't fly FPV anywhere or takeoff/land any rc aircraft from any park or beach within the city..

Portugal is still behind in facilitating authorization to use drones... Civil Aeronautical Authority of Portugal has its website for registration of pilots and drones with problems in speeding up the registration of new pilots... A person is obliged to have to call this authority to speed up the process.

Aircraft means a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in the air. To legally fly an aircraft you need to be a certified pilot. You need a drone pilot certification to fly a drone. You need an ATC clearance to fly a drone in the colored areas. It is most likely you will never get cleared by ATC to fly a drone in the colored area. John CFII

Everything changed in 2018 and announced in May 2019 with the FAA Reorganization act, and so all of this info is at best obsolete. FAA requires pilots to stay current, and to use current info. Airmap has major problems in Colorado airspace. I hope they update Airmap soon since even B4uFly is also obsolete, and since Laanc is still awol, and we can't call ATC, how do we get current info?

More than likely you will get a recording that all drone operations are prohibited until further notice. ATC has it’s hands full keeping aircraft separated without the additional work load of drone operations. ATC can deny clearance.I would be surprised if any ATC facility would ever give permission for drone flight into their airspace. In my view, as a pilot these areas will be restricted to private and commercial operations only. I could be wrong but time will tell. Also remember if you fly your drone in this airspace without clearance and piss your neighbors off they will call the cops and you will be issued a ticket. Your drone is an aircraft. 14 CFR § 1.1 - General definitions. Aircraft: means a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in the air. Joseph friedrich yep. After you get certified to fly a drone. You can not fly an aircraft any where without a pilot certificate. Aircraft means a device that is used or intended to be used for flight in the air. The FAA control all aircraft and all airspace. The FAA’s job is to keep aircraft separated. To many near misses and midair collisions with drones operating in airspace made for commercial flight operations.

This is a good app for people to make their own choices , dji products won’t even let you take off in your living room or two feet off the ground in your own yard , even if you are Not in a restricted air space. Dji boundary’s are larger than the ffa. Buy parrot or other companies that don’t force you to not even be able to start your drone near a state park. It’s dumb

Nameless Bum I’ve flown inside a state park with a DJI quad... Idk what the heck was wrong with yours. I live near the outside of a helicopter airspace bubble on AirMap, and all DJI does is give me a warning. I can still take off from here.

Airmap is useless. I contains huge amounts of obsolete and incorrect map data. I have two 5 mile circles that overlap where I live. At the center of one of those circles is a defunct private airport which has not been used in 12 years. It has grass 3 feet high growing on it. It has never been officially "closed". The property owner who created that airstrip no longer even lives there. At the center of the other circle is a location where a hospital helipad existed 20 years ago. That site was long since bulldozed and there is nothing there now.

Tyee Cambrón Toy quads are pretty much fine to fly anywhere, as most of them are less than half a pound(Nobody cares about toy quads, since they can only go like 20 feet high anyways.) Also I have no clue where you are getting the cost thing. AirMap is free, contacting airports is free, it’s literally just the drone you need to pay for. Everything else is free.

you should call the air tower with in-an Airport of 10 miles of ur planed flite root this distance is not the law but is best for the airport to know what is in the skies so the tower can keep low flying plains off ur flight path. if u don't you may well-be/will-be the cause of a plane that gose down and murder of the ppl in it cuz u flew ur drone up there and the low flying plane hit it = jail time no amount of work u can do to clean that drone, ur DNA is on that drone. so plz fly safe.
