Having seen this jet in person at EAA in Oshkosh, WI this year (2016), I can say it was one of my favorite planes there (second in line behind the P-51 mustang, which there were plenty there this year!). Honda has done an amazing job. Looking right at that jet definitely gives me a life goal - I can only hope some day I could experience what it would be like to own that. The sheer amount of engineering they had to accomplish in such a short amount of time is astounding. Bravo, Honda.

+Rea Ality As a loyal American, AND PATRIOTIC veteran, *I* will ALWAYS prefer my 1961 Chevrolet Apache & 1975 Ford Gran Torino to anything any Japanese or Korean auto maker can put on American highways / Interstates. There ARE Americans that do not care. I do. No Japanese electronic parts to leave me stranded. No on - board computer stuff to fail.
@madisonareadroneservice56058 жыл бұрын
I can understand the patriotic pride, but in all reality the "imports" are essentially the new domestics. A high majority of the popular "import" vehicles now contain a higher american parts percentage than most domestics. Add to that, most are assembled right here in the USA by guys like you and me. If you want to support America, buy a Honda or a Toyota. Forget about a Mexican / Chinese Chevrolet. I will also say, that with my experience as a Master ASE certified technician, the quality of the "import" brands typically far exceed the majority of the domestics (although I do feel Ford in particular is doing an excellent job).

Its a very costly world, similar to boats/yachts. I gave it a go 5yrs ago and regret the colossal waste of money involved. Helicopters are more of a buzz, but even more costly to run/charter and gain a license for.
@AmorilV8 жыл бұрын
Very true, it does cost a good amount of money to get a license, even just for single engine land VFR. However for the experience & skills I now have it was a price I gladly paid. If you want to learn how to fly you should go try it, many schools offer a free 30 minute flight to see if it's something you might like.
@whiteribbonman18 жыл бұрын
+manos3790 I have a good friend that is a private pilot, a Commercial Airline pilot & holds an Instructor certification. I have to agree with him since I hold a Class A license with all endorsements (THAT was costly to gain). . . . . . . .it's either in your blood & you love it, or the person is like you and all they see is the expense. No offense bloke but you did not gain it because YOU wanted the thrill & to be above the clouds, you did it for some other reason. I flew quite a bit years ago, as a passenger. Now I want to drive. It's beautiful up there. No speed limits either. 😀

+whiteribbonman1 I've a friend who had very similar aviation certs and it was he who told me to knock-it-on- the-head. He was 42 at the time and claimed, or unless you're an up and coming youngster? The airlines don't want to know you. He'd spent at least £15-20,000 on lessons/certification without any fruition. He's a bright, educated, slim, approachable dude, but this wasn't enough......Ageism is to blame, unfortunately.

Just a hypothesis, but it seems to have that sport car feel. Larger interior consoles for better information viewing, while the exterior slopes enough to give you an unobstructed view. You are right. Because its Honda. They are always take the hardest routes.
@BillDownhill8 жыл бұрын
Engines mounted on the fuselage cause drag. It's air pressure that builds up between the two. That's why newer small jets have depressions in the fuselage where the engine is mounted. It gives more room for that air to move. Wing mounting the engines on long supports likely eliminated that type of drag entirely. The only unconventional thing here is that they're top mounted engines. But that's fine since they're well above and behind the wing.
@fr-tigerfangs70395 жыл бұрын
If you look at the aircraft configuration more closely, you'll see that yes, it's unconventional, but: 1/ it's by no means a real first (the VFW614 also had a similar, upper wing-installed engines); 2/ it's brilliant! Engine pylons are shaped backward so that the wings themselves protect the nacelle's air intake from absorbing ground debris during TO/landing phases. Also, the wings block some of the engine noise, a plus for airport neighbours. And engines are positioned sufficiently aft of the wing to not block the view outside for aircraft passengers. Brilliant.

I'm really curious about one characteristic of this jet. Given that the engines are mounted on top of and not below the wings, does the nose pitch up or down when full power is applied? If the nose pitches down, this could make applying TOGA quite a problem, e.g. if someone had miscalculated the Flex setting or whatever.

What a sweet looking aircraft. That cockpit is amazing, and the cruising speed ain't bad either.
