Only the first one is canon. John Carpenter who created Myers said he is a human but has a supernatural edge to him. He made him to be the actual boogeyman, he's something that you can't kill, like a force of nature you can't completely stop.

I will have absolutely nothing to do with this trilogy. It represents the creative bankruptcy that is rotting Hollywood from the inside. (symbolically spits on the film reel to show his disgust) I'll see you guys next time.
