Funny you mention using your middle finger as your trigger finger could work. That is actually a technique for shooting Lee Enfield bolt actions really fast, gripping the bolt with your index and thumb and using your middle finger to shoot.

Every sniper movie has to get in that famous " trough the scope shot " That Carlos Hathcock made in Vietnam. Carlos was from the same area as me and he was always one of my heroes. I always like to hear him speak on his Vietnam tours. He was very cocky and done some unbelievable stuff including the through the scope shot. Every sniper knows who Carlos was. Wow, I’m shocked you guys did “Sniper”. I have a very close connection to this film. The writer, Crash Leland, was an acquaintance of mine while he was writing it. He lived about two blocks away from me in Venice Beach. He was literally writing parts of it at the house where I was living. I 100% thought it had ZERO chance of getting picked up and made into a movie. Crash was a great guy. Really, really fun to party with, but he knew absolutely nothing about the military. I can’t remember who was the guy that gave him tips about how snipers actually did their business, but I do know he was a family member and he was back in England. I wonder what he’s up to these days. Super nice dude.

Sniper is a 1993 American action film directed by Luis Llosa. The film stars Tom Berenger and Billy Zane as snipers on an assassination mission in Panama. It is the first installment in the Sniper film series. USMC Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger) uses an M40A1 in 7.62x51mm NATO, a sniper rifle based on the Remington Model 700.

I think the significance of dangling the knife in the water was to mimic footsteps and not to have something shiny for the enemy sniper to attract to. If you notice, the enemy sniper spotted ripples in the water coming from behind him and would surmise someone being in the water coming up to him.

My dad said the first time he threw a white phosphorus grenade he got his ass chewed for it. They told them about them in basic training, but I guess they’re expensive or something so they never threw one or even demonstrated setting one off. He had only been in Vietnam a couple weeks and was on a patrol outside the perimeter of their base camp. He was in the rear of their convoy and was passing a really dense thicket of bamboo and thought to himself “that’d be a really good place for concealment for an ambush” so he decided to burn the thicket out with a white phosphorus grenade. He said they look kinda like a smoke grenade so he figured they just pop like smoke and burn the shit out of what ever they’re laying in. At the last moment something told him to put a little more distance on his throw, so luckily he did and didn’t get hit. To his surprise instead of popping like smoke, it detonated like a frag. And since he didn’t warn anyone that he was gonna do it, everyone on the patrol started laying down fire. After the situation calmed down he fessed up to what happened and got a major ass chewing. But, at least he learned what a white phosphorus grenade would do 😂

When I was commanding a police intel unit in HK, my boss (Det Superintendent) always used to tap me for photo recce jobs because I am pretty good at getting the right shot. We used the HK Gov Flying Service Blackhawks and I was harnessed to the anchor point in the middle of the floor. Then they'd open the door and flip the helicopter on its side and I'd have to get the photos. Nothing between me and ground except fresh air. And my boss always jokingly said, "I don't give a sh*t about you, but the camera is expensive!" 😂😂
