Thanks for the video, I used parts of yours and an alternate video to complete my driver side front wheel hub on a 2005 BMW 530i. I will admit I am not a mechanic by any means but was able to complete the process without having to remove the strut. I simply removed the outer tie rod then used a mallet and banged the bad hub a couple of times downward and it lowered enough to clear the top left bolt head. One word of advice for anyone looking to do this job use a top quality oil penetrator. I had zero difficulty getting the screws and bolts out. Great video and keep up the great editing.

I know it's a very old video but I just changed my car's bearing watching this video and for that I thank you. However, I couldn't take off the disc as the small bolt holding it to the bearing seized and I ruined it further by trying to drill it out. My last MOT have me an advisory on the discs and they needed changing soon. So, I removed the bearing with the disc still attached to it and replaced the discs as well.

Doing this now in the driveway, rewatching the video to see if I forgot something. What a PAIN to get those four bolts out with hand tools! Got two out just before the heads were rounded, stopped for a drink (because otherwise I would have set it on fire lol). Wish I had air tools here, ugh.

Dave M hi thank you. I did not strip them. I know what I’m doing. Ask first if I ever strip them. I always use gear wrench they work well. Everyone has their preferences on what types of tools they use. Obviously if I did strip the nut I wouldn’t be using it in this video. Just saying brother.

All I can tell u I've replaced front bearing on a friend's 2010 550i and didn't have to remove the strut. To me that's an extra step u can avoid. True maybe it gives u more room your way but it's not necessary. Oh and I would have recorded a video if I had one to work on unless u want to buy me new bearing I replace the ones I just replaced this past summer

Angel...Great DIY video. I am changing the front bearings on a 06 530xi... The front bearings appear to have a wired lock nut in the middle. I cant find any bolts on the back of the assembly so I am assuming that the nut is holding everything in place. Is that a special tool? Ive got some pictures not sure how to get them to you. Thanks in advanced

Thank you for your reply - question Can you offer me any advice on replacing a wheel bearing in a 1998 740 il because it definitely needs to be replaced and I'm a old BMW owners budget lol .. my main concern is that the wheel bearing needs to be pressed out as opposed to the wheel bearing in your video which was bolted out I appreciate your reply thank you
@FixItAngel8 жыл бұрын
Hello Crispin, I understand you are in a budget. But you are better off bringing it to a good shop in your area. Save yourself from any problems and lost time that WILL come up. Your sanity is more important than doing this job and just spend the money for someone to do it. I hope it all works out for you. Please subscribe.
@2Phast4Rocket7 жыл бұрын
This is the best advice yet. If people like to work on cars then they should do it and to save money, but if they don't, it's best to leave the job to a good mechanic.
