FUN FACT: Me and the girls at my regular Starbucks are good friends, and the one day I walked in and told them I was going to try something different from my usual. The girl at the counter paused, beckoned me closer, and when we were both leaning over the counter she outright tells me "Dont order the new drinks. The oleato stuff? Its awful. Its been upsetting peoples stomachs and it isn't good." Needless to say, don't get it, bc if the people that work there are risking their jobs to warn you away then there's probably a reason

I had the Oleato Golden Foam when it debuted in Italy months ago. As an Italian olive oil lover, I was very intrigued, and it tasted okay. An interesting experience for sure. Starbucks Barista here. Olive oil coffee is an actual thing, in one small town in Italy to make the coffee smoother. Apparently, the higher-ups wanted to create an authentic coffee experience, however, they weren't able to develop it well on a large scale. It's only offered in a few select stores right now, but I believe it may be expanding. Most baristas (from what I know) don't like it, don't think it's a good idea, and don't want to advertise or recommend the drink, but there's nothing we can do. This was a decision made solely by higher-ups without talking to those of us who regularly drink Starbucks, know the customers, and are the face of the brand (for legal reasons I do not represent the company and this is my own personal opinion)

As a dishwasher who deals with oily pans in 3 sinks: you are so fuckt. so so fucked. Unless you do regular cleanings with a degreaser that is approved for stainless steel / steel use (and even then you need to replace every year), your sink will break in about 4-5 months. With the greaser is about 8-12 months, depending on how good your nightshift can do ratios for the cleanings.

Chocolate and strawberries (really any sweet berry). The chocolate thing is based in fact, although exaggerated. Also, don't just eat to cheer up. Get moving. Exercise sucks but it's good to take yer mind off it and after a few weeks actually becomes enjoyable. You do not want to mope around stewing in your thoughts. Get a diversion.
@jamdonut1122
@jamdonut1122 Жыл бұрын
People with symptoms of depression usually experience stomach upsets or nausea causing a loss of appetite. Being humans, our survival instincts tend to take over when we are in an energy deficit and eating anything high in sugar releases dopamine in the brain, hence why chocolate and strawberries are popular choices. You cannot maintain proper nutrients by eating chocolate and strawberries without dietary supplements, and even then they're not a long term solution as you lack the benefits of phytochemicals and other components found in food. As the comment above notes, exercise is by far the best remedy to this. The depression symptoms will subside and you should be able to start eating healthy again.

And Starbucks really care about that. It is an overall overwhelmingly successful Marketing. Just look at all the free marketing that people are doing. Many people will even visit their nearest Starbucks to check if they have anything like this. Once inside, most people will either just get it if available or just order a different coffee/coffee-like thing. Some will even bring lots of friends who will also order other things. Is this drink really harmful and will be a basis for lawsuits? Not likely. So yeah, overall Starbucks is winning it. I admire whoever thought and push for this, great marketing as always. A few months ago James Hoffman did a video where he tried their olive oil coffees (I think in Italy), and he seemed pleasantly surprised by the taste. He has sadly removed the video (maybe because Starbucks is union busting at the moment?) In a video a week or two ago, MorganDrinksCoffee made her own olive oil drinks based on Starbucks offerings and seemed to like some of them. Steaming the oil into the milk seems to work to emulsify it so it’s smooth not greasy. I for one am intrigued by the premise. I also love espresso and tonic water (+almond bitters, mmmmm) and coffee and cola so I’m apparently willing to try any random nonsense people want to do with coffee.

James Hoffman had access to possibly the best case scenario for the quality of baristas and the coffee itself. The people who served him those drinks were way more experienced than any non-specialty coffee chain. There's no way a random Starbucks in the US can match that, especially with how poorly paid/trained/treated the baristas are (Hence the unions).

As context, I've been working at Starbucks as a barista for two years now (at two different locations). I went up to Chicago visiting a friend and dared to try the Oleato latte (hot, with oatmilk). Given, this was at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery - the famous one with five floors - and they don't serve much of anything on the regular Starbucks menu. The espresso machines and syrups were also different, so it's fair to say that it basically wasn't a true Starbucks. However, that Oleato coffee was the best tasting thing ever. It didn't have any added syrup (just espresso, oatmilk, and olive oil), and I was genuinely surprised at how tasty and smooth it is. Though I never want to get one from a regular Starbucks, I'd definitely recommend getting it if you're ever in Chicago. Best coffee I've ever had hands down.

I’m a barista and let me just say when this came out we had to have meetings in order to learn how to promote the stuff cause we all knew it was gonna be hard to sell. And it is. We all have tried it and don’t like it so trying to lie to the customers on why they should spend their hard earned money on this is difficult. But we all get a look from supervisors and managers if we aren’t trying our best to sell it when asked. Also something I think people don’t know is it’s meant to be drunken quickly if not it separates, which cause that greenish yellow foam at the top. Also if you are trying to just use it in the vanilla cold foam please remember that the cold foam is heavy cream and 2% milk, so if you’re sensitive to milk already then adding the oil in it is gonna make it worst. Thankfully it’s only one pump of the stuff but highly don’t recommend.

@@rioluofthedarkness My philosophy on recipes is that there is nothing new under the sun. I was not the first to think of this, and someone after me will make it independently. The important thing is the simplicity. Starbucks goofed by making their golden foam some mayonnaise-looking abomination. This is something any barista with access to a steam wand and a mortar and pestle can do easily, and if local coffee shops start adding this entirely uncopyrightable drink to the menu, I’d assume someone else had the idea rather than everyone read a random youtube comment (though I have passed it on to my sister who is a Barista)
