The best way to not get hit, is not to be there. The Karambit is truly an effective Self-Defense tool. Adding the necessary footwork will ensure that the effectiveness of the strike is delivered while ensuring that you do not get hit with either the opponents empty hand, impact weapon, or blade.

Another great "3 strikes and out" to save your life. Last week on my block in front of a restaurant, at 2 am, an ice head in need of money for a fix attacked two guys with blunt instruments, stole their backpacks. A couple weeks ago 2 men were put in the hospital, one with life threatening injuries from a knife attack just up the street. He is still in the hospital until he can get up and around. Guru D's video series definitely contribute to that warm safe feeling I have walking for exercise in the wee hours of the morning before the sun heats everything up. With a fixed and folding karambit, some practice and knowledge, I can get my morning walks done past the homeless iceheads, and any other bad guys up to no good. All the bad guys mentioned were eventually caught by Police and jailed, since these crimes occurred in the center of town.

Hello kpatrol, I am glad you found my channel. Learn as much as you can take what you can and make it work for you to protect you and your family. "Pro-tacktion" is a term my teacher used. Please use it...protecting and attacking simultaneously is the key to effective and efficient self-defense, especially in the SinaTirsiaWali Kali self-protection system. If you have any questions, please feel fee to ask via my channel. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365, and always remember to keep your head on a swivel, watch your six, and keep your back against the wall.

I would personally love to train with Sensei Dennis, he is definitely in good form and moves well let alone his knowledge of the karambit use. To Kelly, i have no idea what martial arts experience you have but I have been practicing martial arts for a very long time. What Sensei Dennis is trying to get across is footwork that should accompany the karambit and not merely how to use the karambit so I think your comments are unfair. Keep up the great work Sensei Dennis

Hello Solomon. I would be honored to share my skills and knowledge and produce a video on the topic of free flow practice drills. What you will find is what I do every day in order to make my motions reactive. Practice these as much as you can so that when the time comes... hopefully it does not, you can react to threat without thought. I will get this out soon so keep a look out and subscribe to my channels for notifications. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365!

In the roughly 5 years since this video was uploaded, I hope someone informed you that at 3:00 your footwork is a "2 step." Or at least that's what my Master called it. One step with the lead foot, one step with the follow.

Hello Boost. I hope you are doing well. I prefer the Emerson pocket karambit folder. The features of the Karambit should always be the importance of the deployment. The quicker it's deployed the better. I prefer the one that is placed in the pocket where you place the finger in the ring and twist out at a 45 degree angle where the blade flips open in the hand. It's hard to explanation but the Emerson pocket karambit folder is the best example of what I am describing. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please let me know. Hi Cikgu Dennis Can i use the technique you have shown in the Video with the left foot in the front. I would still move to the side but since my left leg is in the front already i would not have to switch legs. What would be your recommendation on this . I am doing silat and wish to incorporate your krambit techniques . Thank you Mark ....Malaysia

Hello Mark! Most definitely my friend. You can use this skill in the left lead. I teach my students that you must practice in both leads because you never know what lead your going to be in or react in. Practicing in the left lead is just as important then the right lead. What should most important is that you don't get hit... regardless of what lead your in. Great question! Let me know if you have any other questions for it is my honor to answer them. Take care and Stay safe 24 / 7 / 365

The stepping that you do I call drunken stepping where i fall toward the empty corner on my exit path. You stated that I am training for an in experience fighter. Well said. I think that people do not realize who they are attacking and under estimate their opponent mentally. I play the victim and wait for a response from the attacker once they have either left the area or there energy has lowered because of easy prey I teach explosion of tactics and overwhelm the attacker so I can dissipate the threat and get to a safe place. First one must win mentally and vision their opponent has fallen. I like what you do and how you come across. With respect what do I call you Master or Guru. Thank you I say Peace Love and fruit to the 4 winds may scatter.

Follow up info on the Blunt instrument attack on my block; Turned out the instrument used as a weapon was an expanding baton. One of the two men was beat to within an inch of his life by the Denny's restaurant up the street, a street I walk on all the time. The police officer testified that the victim was near incoherent and could not understand how bad off he was, refusing medical attention but the police insisted and it was a good thing. They had to fly him off the Big island to Oahu for Emergency medical care. The good news is the attacker was in court today and I think he will have a long sentence to serve at Halawa prison to pay for his crime. I was not kidding when I said I carry two Karambits on my early morning walks and for good reason. Hawaii needs a 2nd amendment right to carry so innocent people can protect themselves. Hawaii's anti gun '60s liberal politicians have been subrogating the constitution to their own whims for too long. In the meantime, of course the best we can do outside the home is learn alternate means of self defense like Dennis teaches.

Your wrong, you don't have to harm an enemy or have had an enemy harm you to be skilled using a Karambit. I'm very skilled with a Karambit but I don't have been to a knife fight to be skilled using it! Does a butcher have greater skills with a knife just because he cut up a few cows?? He may be great at cutting beef but that doesn't make him skilled using a weapon against an opponent.(not that the butcher got attacked by a cow, LOL) Skills come through constant training with different opponents and working different flow drills and training Hubud and Sumbrada with the Karambit.

Thank you for the comment again as always Mr. Hamilton. For all that have read this please do what you feel that is necessary. Whether it is to put your finger in the hole or to not put it in the hole, do what you feel is necessary. Opinions do vary. Mr. Hamilton makes great points. However, the finger being in the hole or not is not as important as what you do with the weapon to protect yourself.

I know that this is an old post but just know that just because there is a hole in the Karambit you don't have to use it. People make the choice to use the hole in the Karambit or not. Some use it and some don't. Personally I myself use the finger hole in the Karambit but just know that there is a greater risk of you getting your finger broken during a disarm but you knew that right because you are an expert! Now that I said that, I will tell you that you are very rude and disrespectful and clearly lack good manners! So bottom line, Guru Dennis handled your comments as a true gentleman. Maybe you can learn something from that. Me....I'm not as nice and probably don't keep my cool as well. One last thing, the finger hole in the Karambit is just a small part of the intended design. The primary intended design is the "Claw" like shape and the curve of the blade for the maximum cutting potential to cause damage and the curve of the blade assists when doing Arm Drags but again you knew that because you are an expert right? Just remember a little human kindness and respect can go a long ways!
