The new Sky Sabre system brings together data from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, as well as being able and can hit a tennis ball-sized object travelling at the speed of sound.
The Army's 16 Regiment Royal Artillery has welcomed Sky Sabre, which is a replacement of the Rapier missile system.

Nice system. I see it's using the Swedish SAAB "Giraffe" radar system. Britain and Sweden have a lot of military manufacturing together with BAE and SAAB and Thales etc. That NLAW is a joint Swedish-British anti-tank weapon. I hope Sweden procure some of this.. Ukraine war has shown Anti-air defense is critical.

I would take the range numbers with a grain of salt. Range is sometimes determined as effective range vs certain types of targets. Air to air missiles can travel 200 miles and take out a slow moving cargo plane, but the range to take out a fast jet would be significantly less as the missile loses energy the further it travels - even ramjet after a certain point

You also have a British convention of "+", they'll often understate by saying something like 25km+ instead of 40km. It all means public stated ranges don't mean that much.
@Cravendale98
@Cravendale98 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidhouseman4328 From what I read, it was reported by Janes Defence that the Camm missile actually flew 60km in trials. Although if true this is likely to be a maximum range in perfect conditions, effective range would probably be much less, but it does give you a good indication the range is definitely more than 25km.

@@ParallelComparison yes, one of the best ones literally production launched a year ago it's called "Piorun" or in English simply "Thunder". It's previous previous version ("Grom") shot down in Georgia something like 12 Russian planes. We gave the new ones to Ukrainians in like few hundreds of them and I strongly believe those few shots downs from yesterday may be the outcome, at least partially. Even states bought big batch (up to 1000 systems?) of it. But there is one simple disadvantage - once effective this is only 2 men used, very short range system (I think up to 6 km). We don't have medium range and long system AA defence in Poland whatsoever (under development , they bought some Patriots but in such quantity that Russian saturation attack would wipe it out). It's simply expensive as hell, highly advanced and long lasting to produce such capabilities so even if you borrow it for time being it's a huge help and increases potential Russian blood cost by a degree.

@@obliviouz the comment went right over your head. So, the UK gets this new weapon. New carriers, New fighter plane, better tanks, better or new armored vehicles etc. etc. The UK is doing the right thing. Is that because they left the EU? Then we in the Netherlands should leave tomorrow.

No it's likely just due to geopolitical tensions rising in the last decade as well as the need to keep up with military tech

Anything we are getting now like this or the carriers is a prebrexit decision, military projects take time. We'll see in a decade what Brexit brings. Generally though the military constantly get news kit and updates, it not really that special.

There's a lot of defence co-operation between the UK and the Netherlands at the moment. A Dutch frigate was part of the maiden deployment of the HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier strike group to the South China sea and Dutch marines were training with the Royal marines as part of the Littoral response group on a huge exercise with the US marines in California recently. All this would indicate that your military chiefs are looking for some ideas on how to improve things. As for leaving the EU, come and join us! The air smells cleaner out here!

@@justonecornetto80 This isn't just at the moment. The Dutch and Royal Marines have a very close relationship in particular but you've also seen things like the perisher sub course where the Netherlands took over the conventional sub part when we went all nuclear.
