Ford and GM did everything possible to destroy Tesla and went way too far but instead, they are the ones who are getting destroyed.

If Ford is losing $100,000 per EV sold, can you imagine how much GM is losing ?

That's because they didn't care about engineering them to be profitable from the beginning and thought they could continue to subsidize a few EV sales with the gas side of things indefinitely. They didn't expect EV demand to be as high as it was. Then they overshot demand, raised prices too high, and now have surplus on dealer lots that aren't moving.

Actually GM played games, they talked about all these EV models, but never went into serious production on any of them. Ford tried but found out the hard way that a EV is not a ICE vehicle where you swap the engine, transmission, cooling and fuel tank for a battery & motors. Jim Farley, CEO of Ford admitted that the combination of ... Severe resistance with the company & dealerships makes transition to EVs difficult. Lack of vertical integration. OEMs use a gang of 3rd party companies to supply components and pit them against each other for the best price. The downside is the vulnerability to supply chains as we saw during the Plandemic, but the other is computers and software, each part of it is electronic has its own software proprietary to that supplier. That prevents tight integration. And integration is needed to make your EV efficient. It also allows rapid software updates that can update damn near everything in the car, a feature Tesla dominates. The dealership network is a major albatross. Dealerships make their profits not from sales, but from their service departments. Warranty work is the main money maker. Engines Transmissions High pressure cooling Exhaust 12v electrical systems Far more moving parts in a ICE vehicle compared to a EV. This is why dealerships are against EVs. To further hamper car companies, they can't switch to direct sales like Tesla, because many states have law protecting dealerships. With that all said. The only way legacy Auto survives is to... Make viable EV's that the public will buy instead of a Tesla Dealerships get on board and activity sell them knowing that their service department gravy train will be diminishing over time. The tarrifs on Chinese EV's will be the 2nd time the Biden Admin tries to help Ford & GM but actually helps Tesla. The mandates & tax breaks were not for Tesla, but Tesla was able to capitalize on them while Ford & GM couldn't. The tarrifs eliminate competitors to Tesla. Thanks Joe!

@@shannonwoodcock1035 , you’re right Joe, Tesla just makes a overall, better product . They approached auto making the way it should be in the 21st century. To expect other manufacturers to abandon their old ways is a pipe dream, they will hold on to the bitter end, Tesla has disrupted a whole manufacturing segment of America, we as supporters and shareholders should not expect admiration and respect from the ones Tesla is disrupting. Manufacturing , distribution and servicing are the core to Ford, GM , Stelantis and all other automakers but not only has Tesla innovated better methods, they have quietly incorporated the gas station . Innovation has spurred Tesla, while other manufacturers are grappling with the problems of manufacturing, distribution and lack of income from servicing, Tesla has built a computer on wheels. One of Tesla’s best features is what you pointed out, it manufactures a proprietary, fully integrated EV. If the other problems weren’t enough, Tesla has made the smart phone of EVs, everything else is a flip phone.

Thank God the US auto industry is no longer dependant solely on the "Inefficient" methods that are based in Detroit.

Amen brother. It’s like Elon’s firing of the charging team supercharging team. He hired back certain key individuals. They didn’t cut back like he told them to 20% or somesuch thing in the year employee rack. So he canned them all and hired back whom he wanted. A disciplinary style.

I sort of feel sorry for legacy auto for how hard the transition to EVs will be. Companies develop a culture that is difficult to change. The culture for producing ICE and EVs vehicles is very different. EVs require a software focus. The manufacturing focus is towards automation and cost reduction. The ICE culture is very different. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to have 2 cultures in a company. Ford took the step of completely breaking out EVs at least financially but that is just a small step in creating a new EV culture.

Tesla is facing a number of challenges right now. Foremost of which Elon is being extremely erratic. His pay package would represent 10k for every Tesla car ever sold, or more profit than Tesla has ever made. Chinese batteries keep on getting cheaper and better, making Tesla's vaunted 4680 battery suspect and possibly unnecessary. FSD, while rapidly improving, may never be fit for full autonomy, making robofleets impossible, and crippling Tesla's valuation. Tariffs have been placed on Chinese cars, but superior technology can't be kept off the market forever. The US car market is in the toilet. No one has money to pay for $500-700 car loans. This next quarter could be especially excruciating for Tesla. Tesla's stock price could easily go below $100 by the end of the year.

The future is still ahead, Ford and GM have not missed the boat. Tesla may be the pioneer in modern electric vehicles, It could just as easily die on the vine. Besides the masses are not adopting the electric car as is claimed. Still too few infrastructure support. Batteries don't agree with cold weather. BEV for driving around town, but not for londistance trips. People are looking at hybrids and that is where Ford is pivoting. Don't know about GM.

You obviously have not owned an electric car from the subservient FUD you parrot. ICE vehicles also use more fuel in cold temperatures, 20-25% more and you never noticed. EV's no good for long journeys? Nonsense, I have owned one for 3 years, but don't ask anyone with ownership experience.

Driving a hybrid is like trying to be half pregnant. A foolish kludgeharp, pissy little batteries, pissy little engines, a complete waste of resources. The FUDI about long distance raveling in EVs has been disproved and debunked long ago. Give it up, already! EVs fit the needs of many of us and that is reality. Reality is also that in some applications, EVs are not a good fit at this time. But hybrids are NEVER a good fit.

You don't read statistics? Everything points at a 30+% YoY so EVs are not going to die, but ICE cars are as EVs are being cheaper and ICE cars are going to be more expensive. You need to get out of your moms basement

EV batteries not working in cold weather is a legacy media fud report. Look at the facts like 90+% cars in Norway are now an EV.
