Cars being sold on a per applicant basis arent meant to go to the most fervent customers, they go to the most well known buyers like royals, actors, jay leno, etc who are going to show them off. It's a halo car for a popular brand that rarely produces supercars but sets new standards every time they do. It is the brave new world of demand based production. Many segments try for it. Artificial scarcity with a direct purchase only program to make sure the get all the gravy up front. In some respects its not different than what the boutique super-car companies do. The flips killed it by showing manufactures what the true early market price could have been. I love ford and what they make, but I was absolutely disgusted at the way they went about deciding who was allowed to buy a new Ford GT. Last I checked this was America, and you should be allowed to buy what you want, irregardless of how you got your money, how many followers you have, or what you Twitter handle is. Does Ford have the right to reject applications? Of course, but regardless, picking and choosing who gets one based on publicity is not good business
