Congrats on the truck! Just got a Platinum in a 5.0. Not doing too much towing but wanted a smoother ride and potential longevity and the sound ofc but the 3.5 is a beast and agile. There needs to be some quality control issues that need to be seen with occasional rattling and hiccups but it is what it is
@bcw686
@bcw686 4 жыл бұрын
I have always heard that the 5.0 V8 is better for longevity but I haven't owned a truck before. I am thinking about this truck but maybe the Lariat or XLT Sport, do you just get a truck and forget about the gas mileage? Car I have now doesn't get good gas mileage but this is another level of having to fill up. I am asking cause I just don't know
@kirklandwassabi8619
@kirklandwassabi8619 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah i mean i was paying attention to the mileage too with my 2.7. But then i told myself if i really cared that much i should have just gotten a smaller car. I believe the mileage is a fine tradeoff for what you get. The purpose of a truck isnt to get good mileage, however, comparing the 5.0 to the 2.7 the mileage does not differ THAT much. I love everything about the 5.0 from the instant power, the smooth acceleration and the noise. The noise i found can be altered a bit by switching to eco so the gear changes are even more fluid and smooth, making the engine quieter
@kirklandwassabi8619
@kirklandwassabi8619 4 жыл бұрын
Brad Whitehead I had a 2018 lariat 2.7 eco before i got the 5.0 and if you can spend a little bit more for the lariat it is def worth it with the leather seats and upgraded interior but it really depends on what your needs are and honestly both cloth and leather have their pros and cons so it again depends on what you need/want

For the tray in the center console that slides, take two mini clip binders and place them on the track both front and back track and the tray won’t slide and you’ll still access to the rest of console storage. I place the tray all the way to the right closer to the front passenger seat. Hope that helps. Easy, cost efficient and easy to undo.

So far I like it, i do not like the MPG, however, but I do injoy the convente of the bed and the driving dynamic. Excellent review. I purchased the 2015 platinum NEW and it has been flawless. Then again the sunroof had issues and the rest was truck wear and tear. I treat the seats regularly and my passengers comment that the truck appears new after 73000 miles. Probably moving up to a 250. Fords have been to good to me to think about moving elsewhere.\\Cheers

Good honest review. As a 2015 Platinum owner, yes the front turn signals are LED. On the 2015 Platinum, the only sets of lights that weren’t LED were the fogs and the license plate lights. Also, the Ram pickup does not have independent rear suspension but rather coil springs instead of leaf springs as found on other pickups. As for your leather seat wear, that is insane. I thought I heard some issues with that particular color leather. The black leather seats on my Platinum still look like new and are 2 years older than yours. Almost makes me wonder if your prior owner would get the leather constantly wet (boating, etc).
@RobertWilliams-ox4hz

Yeah my black leather looks fine. Ram also has air ride available on their higher trim levels. My 2019 Lariat also came with LED fog lamps. The only non LED lights are the plate lights now.

As a long time owner of a 2007 F150 5.4L with 3.73's I ended up with a new 2019 F250 6.2L with 4:10's in the rear end as well. I still own the F150 and have done back to back tests towing an enclosed trailer with my compact car in it (probably a hair over 5000 lbs total). Almost identical gas mileage towing (under a buck worth of difference over a couple hundred miles) but the F250 tows as if the trailer doesn't exist. The F150 you can feel the side blasts with the passing semi's and a little more tongue bounce. So the plus side of going F250.... towing, commanding view, basically the same price as a F150 if you go gas, V8, everything on the truck underneath is heavier duty, better towing mirrors, bigger tank. The downside is 3-4 mpg less unloaded, slightly longer, and a rougher ride unloaded. I have a small car for daily trips and use the truck for towing and DIY projects. If you don't have to daily drive your truck or its mostly towing its worth considering going to a 250 to avoid turbo repairs / problems and have a substantially better towing experience. If you do daily drive then the F150 is good choice and you just have to choose the risk of the turbos vs less HP with the 5.0. If I had to buy a F150 it would be the 5.0 for sure.

Sir thanks for your honest and objective perspective on this review. I really appreciate it. I was thinking of a gmc diesel or a gas F150. But I want 6.5 foot bed and probably the heavy duty payload package for increases legal payload in bed. Sad the gm doesn't offer payload and fuel tank size to better support towing with diesel. They may do so in future. My only gripe on ford is not offering a 100k warrenty at no cost for EcoBoost. If ford believes in this powertrain the warranty should reflect this. Thanks and nice truck!!!

2014 XLT, F150, 3.5 EB purchased new in March 2015 for less than $35K. It now has 100K miles and has been flawless. Great gas mileage for a truck, 20.8 MPG to and from work mostly. The cloth (or whatever it's called) seats are holding up fine with no visible sign of wear. I've had leather seats before in a Silverado 2500 that didn't make it past 70K miles, but the truck lasted 200K miles before trading it in for the Ford

Have the same feedback from my seats. The cloth on my '13 were way more comfortable than these leather ones on my '18. They're better looking and are holding on good, but I clean them very often with a wet microfiber cloth (just water and not damp) - it seems to keep the material smooth and cracks free.

Nice video! I just ordered a 2020 F-150 Lariat with the 2.7L ecoboost. Ford has removed the engine cover on the 2.7L because people were having issues with high engine coolant temperatures when towing up a steep grade. You might want to try removing your engine cover when towing to reduce the engine temp.

So they say. although it probably does help a little.more than likely a cost cutting measure 2.7 is probably there main seller so let's say conservatively 300,000 trucks at a cost of 10.00 for the cost of the cover.you get the picture.3 million saved conservatively.no gloves box or hood lights standard stuff like this when you build 800,000 trucks a year adds unfortunately when they do this on quality of seat foam,leather,interior Plastics it really shows.i can't literally ride 30 miles in my dads 2011 f150 because the seats are so uncomfortable however my 97 with 300,000 miles is still comfortable.

I've had a 2014 Laramie ecodiesel, 2014 Laramie 2500 Diesel and a 2015 mustang GT. +1 on the dodge interior. They were nicer than the ford ones. I have a 2017 f150 XLT 5.0 Love the truck as i don't tow much with it and it has the 36 gallon tank. I get roughly 800 kms in the city and 1000 kms straight highway. I bought the truck new and i didn't bother to go past XLT. Platinum and Lariat is another 20k+ and it's all just fancy electronics and as you know those are prone to fail. I didn't get leather as it always fades and rips within a few years. My laramies after a few years the leather was fading and i wasn't happy with it. Right now i have 84K on my 17 and only issues i had was the multifunction switch for the signal stick went and that was $100 and now the passenger seatbelt buckle is malfunctioning. I love my truck and it's pretty solid but electronics will always fail. That's why i bought a XLT all i needed was a rear window and the ford SYNC 8 inch screen. I love how ford has options like the maintenance package and extended warranty for 5 years. Yeah you pay 3-5k extra on your truck but you don't have to put a dime into it for 5 years, If youre able to pay it off in 5 years you're laughing.

Yeah its really annoying especially during winter. What i can say is that some things have been addressed in the 2020 like reduced moonroof rattling and sticking during hot temps with a more refined assembly. I had a 2019 and the moonroof always got stuck after it had rained. So i guess they ironed out the little malfunctions during this generation but im sure the 2020 will have its issues

Just a few thoughts and observations... I like having the fog lights (upgrade with LEDs) left on with the high beams. It's a quick computer programing fix your Ford tech can do the time you're in for service. Being able to throw as much light down the road ahead is especially important for those of us who live in rural and/or mountain country where we often encounter deer, elk or the occasional escaped cow or horse on the road. Ford's tailgate step with the assist handle is, in my opinion, a must-have. At 76 years old I don't jump into or out of pickup beds like I used to just a few years ago. Ford's step is so much easier and safer for us senior guys and gals.

My wife love the Power Running Board because it deploys lower than having a standard step and is easy to get in the truck. Never had the issues you have had. I agree with the interior quality. I have the exact same truck. The seats require leather treatment to maintain their life and the seat cooling feature does not blow, it sucks and is only a fan not actually an AC it takes a little while for the effect to be felt and it’s only in the seat bottom not the back. I wouldn’t trade any other truck for my F-150 , I have never had an issue with it and Ford stands behind their flagship product. Thanks Dan. Been a Ford man all my life and have been yearning for a new F-150 truck. Yes, I agree that for 60K a guy should get the teats with the wheels for sure. And for the ladies they should get the hotrod with the wheels too! I know i left some folks hangin, but i think my point is well taken. Ford makes mistakes like anybody else; i just wish they wouldn't make so many. The early ford ecoboost engines crashed in under 50,000 miles due to carbon buildup on the valve stems. Now a ford 2.7 liter twin turbo will go 100k miles with minimal maintenance. Most guys i talk to have put a catch can on the exhaust gas reburn to eliminate carbon buildup on valve stems and they are doing well. As with anything else, it takes a few years to fix someone elses mistakes and that's life. I have bought many Ford trucks over the years and what I have learned is that at todays prices, there is 30% of the cost for overhead and profit. As the new truck ages on the lot ford gives incentives and sometimes the dealers do too. So, I could be wrong, but on a $60,000 truck initial O&P is 20K! Then over time it goes down to $15K. So, the dealer shoots for the 15K minimum O&P on the new truck. Now, somebody trades in their truck after 2 years and the dealer gives them 25K. The next day that truck is for sale on their lot for 35K. So, the O&P is now 10K on the used truck. So, what has happened is that that same truck has brought in 25K in O&P in two years to the dealer. When are we going to smarten up?

Bro that was the best review I ever seen! Nice job! I bought a 2019 F150 XLT and had the dealer install the ROUSH supercharger on the 5.0 I’m pushing 725 hp with exhaust it’s a beast!! I paid 64k all new. If Ford would turbo then V8 stock they would have the WINNER. I still have a hard time buying a v6 in a full size truck I like a lot of power. And if you have to ask what MPG I get then a supercharged v8 isn’t for you. The factory leather seat suck they always wear out. I went with cloth for that reason this time and they have a amazing design. I will do a review on my truck here soon I customized it a lot though. I had a 2016 Ram and nothing could beat that hemi stock. Rams are still my favorite to be honest especially for the money and options the Ram has! Stock airbags on a Ram. The Tesla radio they are amazing trucks! Ford looks the best and the sound a 5.0 makes no other truck in the world can touch! Especially supercharged 😂. I like mine to rumble so I did the cut out exhaust and she purrs! Well anyways you did a great job on the review!!! God Bless🙏🏻

I have the exact same year of truck and have not experienced any of the things that you mentioned about the running boards or the seats etc. with a running boards once you realize how far they extend you just have to learn that that is how far they extend. I'm a big guy and I wear size 14 shoes that running board is perfect for a guy like me to step up into the truck if the running board didn't come out far enough I would have a hell of a time trying to get in my truck. I weigh 250 lb I'm far bigger than you look to be in your video 3 years later I have no issues with my leather seats whatsoever. I totally agree with you with the power and the 10 speed there's nothing like it on the planet. I won't buy another Chevy and Dodge looks great but I'm a Ford guy forever thank you.

I have a 2017 xlt with the 3.5 eco. Excellent truck. Fun to drive and love the power. It only has some cosmetic defects. The plastic chrome on the grill is chipping off. I own a 2019 Lariat with the 502a package. It has pretty much every option that yours has except the massaging seats. I absolutely love the sunroof too. My biggest gripe is the engine sound. I love the power but you're right about them sounding crappy. lol. Another gripe I have is the key-less door locks. I wish they had the same function on the back door. For 65k they should. I have a black leather interior so I haven't noticed the wear on the seats. But mine is a bit newer so we'll see. I went with the Lariat over the King Ranch and Platinum because I can't stand the trim on the tailgate. I also haven't noticed the power boards hitting me, but I am a bit taller so maybe I have more reach than you. Short people seem to like them since they do go lower and farther out when deployed. The auto start stop in kind of annoying. I wish you didn't have to shut it off every time you start the truck. For the most part I'm very happy with the truck. I should mention this is my first Ford. I've always been a GM guy, but I wasn't impressed with the new Chevys interior and exterior.

I haven’t experienced the leather issue in my 15 platinum with many more miles, over 100k now. They’re black and still look great. Also everything still works. To the 3.5 skeptics: this engine has been out for a decade now and the used vehicle prices confirm its reliability regardless of whatever you’ve heard or think. A comparison would be 6.0 and 6.4 ford diesels which had many known serious and expensive issues and as such their resale values plummeted, sometimes $10k vs comparable other brands diesels in those years. I know because I bought and bullet proofed a cheap 6.0 in 2008. Why hasn’t this happened with the 3.5 eco boost trucks if it’s such a turd? Used vehicle prices tell the true story

Great honest review, greatly appreciated. I have a suggestion for the sloppy tray in the center console. Any hardware store has 3M adhesive felt strips. I have purchased a 3"x4" for other usage. Simply measure the sliding area on the flip side of the tray, cut the felt adhesive to desired width and length. and apply to where the tray meets the console railing. If there is still too much slop, measure and cut additional felt to the sides of the tray slide area to take up the gap and inhibit sliding. I hope this helps solve the problem. Good evening to you. Thank you very much for your straight shooting review of the F150. My wife and I are going through the decision process of a couples trailer. As I mentioned on one of your other videos yesterday, we have a Tacoma; which has minimal towing capability. But, we do like it for off roading here in SW CO. After our talking today, if we get anything beyond a geo pro or r-pod (murphy bed floor plans), we'll probably just get a minimal frills F250 or F350 gasser. We've have some negative under capable tow vehicle experiences in the past and would rather just get something with a decent margin. I towed a 28ft enclosed cargo trailer with a rental f250 gasser through CO a couple of years ago and it did quite well. And, if we got a larger tow vehicle like that, we'd most likely splurge and get an as winter capable travel trailer as possible, such as yours. Have a great evening!

When the 3.5 EB is running right, it's great. I had one for a year and it had way to many problems for a truck with 60k miles (coolant leak on both turbos, bad crank shaft sensor that left my family and I stranded on the side of the road, failing starter motor, cold start timing chain rattle). I wouldn't recommend owning one outside of the powertrain warranty. The turbo sounds were cool tho.

Not all mechanics know how to deal with turboed engines. A friend with a '12 eco that was a turbo nightmare even under warranty at the dialership, took it one day to a small shop mechanic experienced with mostly turbodiesel engines, who corrected all the headaches on that engine. 3 years ago my in-laws took their ever underpowered 18 year-old TDi to him and my SIL is afraid to step on the accelerator since then. Hi Ian! Great review! Funny enough I was just browsing on youtube and started listening to your video and decided to stick to the end and I'm happy I did. Love your honest, no BS opinion about your truck and it's all your personal perspective and experience by using it, but it is a very welcomed review. I have a 2018 5.0 Lariat SE and obviously have my own perspective about my truck, which has been flawless along these 3 years (ordered at end of '17) and although I don't dislike anything in particular of course there's always something that I'd wish it would be better 😜 But I didn't join the channel to write why I'm so pleased with my truck and yes to just point you out on some direction about your headaches with your Adaptive Cruise sensor. Bear with me that I never had any issue, but I remember reading online somewhere (I think on a Ford Escape or Explorer forum) of someone having the same issue as you and it was the sensor's bracket that was loose behind the bumper. On our F150 it is located behind the driver's side bumper cover so give it a look. Hopefully it is this easy fix. Another thing, which you might know of, but anyway, keep that moonroof periodically clean and lubed. It doesn't take long to do so and should stay free of noises and breaks. We totally love the un-claustrophobic (is this a word? LOL) and open view the glass roof gives us on the long or short trips, but specially on our "very dull" winter season - Love, love it!! Best for your channel 👍 Cheers!

I went into a store and bought a 12 pack then when i gottomy car i realized I forgot to get something so i put the 12 pack on the sethedoor and went back inside. I had to break a window to get in. I chose the smallest window which it turned out to be the most expensive one to replace (1987 lincoln town car, signature series). they've had these keypads since the 70's i think, or early 80's. That 10 speed Transmission is a GM/FORD joint venture and now has gotten GM into a lawsuit. I owned a Ford Taurus and between GM and Ford they cured me to Toyota. I just got my 20 Tundra. One thing about Toyota, nothing is cheaply made...all materials are of pretty high quality. On your F150, the folding rear seats have no storage...my Tundra has hinged doors for under seat storage. I know the F150 is better on fuel but I went for reliabilty. Thankfully Toyota increased the fuel tank to 38 gallons. My truck has all the safety crap which i turned off. I doubt i will use adaptive cruise...i set my speed and drive at that speed if possible. As for the rear step...i just got one for my hitch...from TSC...It works and is first line of defense for rear end collisions. Those running boards are nice but here in Canadian winters with snow and ice...NO THANKS. I just got the old standard ones...one position only. @@rkeith4442 How about the gas mileage? Depends on how you drive it I guess

@@bcw686 I'm getting 17- 22 mpg on average. I didn't get it for the mileage anyway but I'm happy with it. The V-6 EcoBoost doesn't get much better . It also has the extended 37 gallon fuel tank so it goes a long way between fill ups. I just love the power! 😃

Awesome video. The only part I don’t agree with is the downshifting while towing to not use boost. Downshifting is going to raise your rpm and the turbos are pretty much spinning in idle until a certain rpm is reached. You’re more likely to trigger boost at higher rpm. Unless you’re on a downward grade and not accelerating.

Unless you live in Snow Country a 4x4 could be helpful. Example Montana if you are a Logger this Truck will get you to your Timber work site. I don't like the way some of these Trucks were almost Femminized with all the Bells and Whistles. Example Sun roof , and then Power everything even the mirrors. They made these Trucks for work.

I have a 3.5 but had a 5.0 when it was in the shop when I was tapped in the parking lot. I do love the sound of the 5.0 but the torque off the line is a big difference. With the 5.0. I felt like I had to rev it to feel any power.

Matt Wagner would it gap a tuned 3.5? Btw..the reason the 3.5 is quicker is because of the 70 more pounds of torque. I have driven them both of them and and the 3.5 felt so much faster to me. I ended up with the 3.5. My friend has the 5. He even says my feels faster. Especially from 2k to 4K. Either way, they are both good trucks.
@paulhunter9613
@paulhunter9613 Жыл бұрын
@@bmakel the 3.5 is faster with the torque coming in full at 2700 rpm instead of waiting for the five oh to spool up to4000 to get its torque, and it’s still much less than the 3.5’s output. And that’s why the 3.5 tows better and tows more, and gets better mpgs than the v8

You can go into settings and turn off running boards so they don’t come out and the cooled seats are from hot air inside the truck to cool down I think also if you haven’t noticed you have tow haul and sport mode in the column shifter

Great review, I have the 2020 F-150 2.7 4x4 XLT sport 302A trim package, I went with the sport because I don’t like chrome. Only dislikes I have is the clunk at start, and sometimes going from park to drive! I eliminated the auto start/stop, that is so annoying! I added the tailgate dampener and the integrated trailer brake controller and put a 2 inch leveling kit on the front end with bigger tires because I cannot stand the silly highway tires these trucks are built with. I would love to have a platinum but anybody that buys one needs to know your power running boards and power folding Mirrors are going to fail and extremely expensive to replace. I don’t know how many of these platinum I see running down the highway with one running board down that’s because it is broken, also you mention the Katskins leather I seen them just as bad as the factory after a few years
