As a kid growing up in Southern West Virginia we had a saying, that boy could tear up a steel anvil, that goes with trucks too, maintenance, warm up before you get on em and realize that there machines and not drag cars, I don’t think most people have enough sense to take care of vehicle anymore! On my 2nd 2.7 Ecoboost powered F150 and both have been flawless, but I’m easy on em and let them turbos cool down for a minute or two when I get home, also never miss a oil change.

Yes not true. I get a work truck every 100k miles. My last one was a 2018. Had a 5.0l. Needed cam phasers at about 80k miles. It always had the oil changed Early and didn't haul anything heavy.

Personally I've never ran into anyone that has had any of these problems. I have a 2013 3.5 with 165k miles and an 2018 v8 with 30k miles. Both have had no issues, other then regular maintenance you'd expect.

My 2012 5.0 had 300k before I traded it with out one problem! The new 23- 5.0 f150 I am close to getting 60k and it’s just a towing beast! Like the older one pulls my 10k trailer smooth shifts well at times on long up hills it tends to be screaming but it’s a 5.0 that loves the high rpm’s. My brothers 3.5 is just as nice but tends to be a bit faster to 55 mph. And mpg are 1.6 different from his to mine his being better of course. Sounds like you have a no love lost when it comes to ford but good review!

I had a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L. It had the top of the engine replaced 2 times under warranty. Cam phasers. The third time at 125k I had to pay $4000+ to have it fixed a third time. I sold the truck due to a hard shift into overdrive.

If you’re burning oil now, the damage is already done… the piston rings could be seized, I’m sure the cylinders are worn out. Simply changing the oil viscosity isn’t going to fix anything!… get rid of it!
@barrymantei77954 ай бұрын
@Swindy1794 it's not extreme oil usage like I said oil consumption improved greatly by switching to 5w30 oil, these engines have sprayed on cylinder liners instead of iron sleeves I think this might be the issue The truck has depreciated to much to sell it at this stage, 80,000 km. 10-speed (10R80) transmission you say is good but then go on to list a bunch of safety concerns. IMO I would avoid this transmission. Maybe the newer spec w/upgrades are an improvement but I’d wait a while before getting one. The 6-speed (6R80) still the most reliable IMO. 5.0L Gen1 engine is good. Earlier years (2011-2013) have had problems with the intake valves bending causing compression leaks and misfires. Gen3 is plagued with issues especially years 2018-2020 and should be avoided. Gen4 not a fan of new updates/features as you have mentioned. I think by far the best 5.0 is the Gen2. Still has port injection and all the fixes of the gen1, without the extra new crap they added with the newer generations. Also just a watch out… the 5.0’s are prone to coolant leaks. Worth mention the 5.4L triton should be avoided at all costs. It is garbage. So far my biggest complain with my F150 has been the vacuum type IWE. At 85k miles I already went thru 2 sets.

We are doing research to get a new truck. All I hear from people is that they all “know a guy” who has had major problems with their F150s. I personally know 2 of those people and they said they will never buy a ford again. Yet somehow the F150 is topping all the lists of people ranking the best trucks to buy for the last 5 years. So I’m at a loss.. what really is the state of ford these day?

Bought mine in 2016 with the 5.0 and other than some minor electrical nuances has been a very solid truck so far at 100k kms. I’m afraid to trade it in cause I don’t want to deal with truck issues due to over complicated technology in the new ones. Too many potential points of failure.

The best or better in the lineage of the F150 a 5.0 2015 to 2017 the last what I have I have 170k on my used 2017 3k oil changes yield .5 quart burned a used truck 7 years old. My 2007 5.4 3v overserviced never taken apart gave it to my son he loves the Crown Vicks had my 1991 and his Grandpas 2008. My son getting in to a truck he loves it seeing brake lights 4 cars ahead and knowing this winter in Hamilton Ontario Canada he will get to work no matter what amount of snow falls and it could be nothing but with lake effect that shut down Hamilton 4 years ago no problem. Anyways 2015 to 1017 the last of the best. 2018 oil consumption plasma sprayed in cylinder crap 2020 a belt driven oil pump that degrades and plugs the oil pickup or just breaks 2015 to 1017 the last of the reliable Coyote. Not a engineer but a mechanic since 1987.
