I hope everyone is having a good weekend. This is the final video of my f150 series with the 5.0L Coyote engine. I hope everyone is liking it so far.
Today we take this truck out of the road and I give you my real time feedback on what exactly I think about this truck in terms of acceleration and drivability.
firstly I noticed that the low end throttle response is not like the larger displacement v8 engines that the competitors like RAM and Chevy offer. but that is most likely to be expected given the smaller displacement of engine.
however once you reach 3,000 rpm this engine comes to life and as the RPM keep building this engine fully comes to life and you can really see this engine is built for top end power.
when jumping on the highway and I put my foot to the floor the truck accelerated perfectly. tons of power and speed. this engine and truck will have no issues making passes when needed. like I discussed in the video I wonder how this top end power will translate into towing. only time will tell!
In terms of Fuel economy and MPG this v8 is amazingly efficient. this is the most efficient pick up I have tested this far with the only exception being the inline 6 3L Duramax diesel.
Now this engine will rev to 7,000 rpm and thats what sets this engine apart from the rest is that it almost has another level at the top end in terms of power. most v8 tend to rev to like 5,500 - 6,000 rpm and this engine just keep on bulding the revvs which is cool to see.
Overall this is a very smooth fun engine to drive.

Surprised on the torque comment, the 5.0L Ford and Ram Hemi make peak torque around the same RPM (4,250 and 4,000) and feel very similar to me. In straight line acceleration the 5.0 is much faster obviously, it’s got more power than the 5.7 and in a lighter vessel.

Get about 13 pulling my utility trailer with my off road golfcart. I run 87 octane gas. No issues other than the backup camera had an intermittent harness issue I was able to resolve. I have a '20 F-150 5.0L Coyote V8 4WD. I tend to drive for fuel economy, as do a couple of friends of mine with 3.5 Ecoboosts. I'm getting 16-19 mpg ACTUAL fuel economy with my truck. I say "actual" because, without adjustment (which the owner can do in truck's menus), the factory set EVIC overstates fuel economy on my truck by about 6%. Comparing that with my friends' trucks, they get about 17-20 mpg with their 3.5 Ecoboosts. In all cases, drive with a lead foot and you'll be down under 12-15 mpg in a big hurry with the Coyote or the Ecoboosts. Also, driving over 65 mph will make a big hit on fuel economy with any of these trucks. I chose the Coyote because most of the people that I know who have the Ecoboosts have had significant reliability and longevity issues with them. The Coyote 5.0 will just outlast the Ecoboosts, in my opinion.

The 5-litre will have no problem maintaining 10.5-12 L/100 on the highway at speeds between 100-120. I owned a 2011 5 litre for 8 years, it had the 6 speed auto and that was my regular mileage.
@jaysson1151
@jaysson1151 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been making the argument for a while, stating that the Coyote is more efficient under a load or at higher cruising speeds than the turbocharged engines cuz they will likely be in the boost when cruising above 75mph (120 kph). The same goes for towing-TFL proved that years ago on the Ike Gauntlet. Granted, wind resistance is wind resistance regardless of which engine, but I think the sweet spot for speed vs mpg is higher with the 5.0 than the 3.5 and likely tied with 2.7.

The acceleration of the F150 is better with the 3:73 gears - turn the traction control off, select sport mode then try it. For towing - the truck is engineered to operate at lower RPMs by activating all 16 injectors. Had a 2015 Ram with the 5.7 - was a great truck until the lifters failed at 138K miles. My 2021 Ford F150 STX 4x4 tows heavier loads better than my Ram did - for conventional towing you would do with a half ton truck, the Ram was better overall except when accelerating.

2018 STX crew 5.0. 15-17mpg around town, 18-20mpg at 70mph on the highway using cruise quite a bit. The truck actually seems happiest in the 40-50mph zone where its 21-23mpg. All this despite an absolute POS 10 speed transmission, the absolute lowest of lowlights in this otherwise great truck. Seems like they have refined the transmission since then which is good, but that doesn't exactly help me out 5 years into ownership.

Co-developed the 10 speed is not really accurate, Ford took the lead on the 10 speed rear wheel drive and GM took the lead on the 9 speed front wheel drive transmission and they agreed to share the transmissions designs. The 9 speed didn’t really pan out as expected. Instead the 9 speed dropped a gear and was used as an 8 speed instead.

In my opinion, the 2nd gen 5.0 is a better all round motor/transmission set-up. The 4th gen has a belt driven oil pump as compared with the chain driven 2nd gen. The 6R80 transmission shifts better and hunts less for gears. Also, the 2nd gen 5.0 used cast iron cylinder sleeves and didn’t have engine oil consumption problems found in 3rd and some 4 gen 5.0’s. I just wish the F150 could still be had with a manual transmission. The weak point with the 5.0 in the F150’s seem to be the cam phasers. The only other item that seems prone to failure with the F150 4x4’s is the vacuum operated integrated wheel ends (IWE). Ah well, EVERY vehicle has its weak points.

States of the truck are. 2019 F 150 5.0 with crew cab.(cab and 1/2) 6 1/2 foot bed,, and 3:73 gearing. Everything is stock motor wise. A few cosmetic/functional add ons. My 2020 has a 3.55 rear end. Wanted a 3.73 but I couldn’t find one with the options I wanted. Unless I’m on flat pavement i lockout 10th gear because it has not power to spare and sometimes feels like it’s lugging a bit. Question for ya. Any thoughts on what octane is best? It has a 12:1 compression ratio. Mine runs fine on 87 but I have several buddies that have 18-19 model years and they swear it runs better on 93. They switched to premium due to knocking. Having the gear limiter on the wheel isn’t great. Coming down a steep winding road in my Ram it’s hard to hit the buttons while making steering adjustments. Somewhere on the dash would be better.

A stock 5.0 has a little lag down low because the air flow is restricted from air intake and the exhaust system. It's to keep the noise down and for emissions. But I fixed those issues and it's a torque monster. Down low or up high. And the Ecoboost can't hang with it. I waste any 3.5's on the road. Guys, the 5.0 is a Eco-beast. Not the 3.5. Oh, and it only gets like one or two mpg worse than the Ecoboost so i dont understand the hype

You say it’s a little slow off the line what gear is in it a 331 gear which won’t be a great towing gear Or getting off the line If you want to get off the line a little better you need to drive one with the 373 gear.

I think the 5L has 5 more hp and the same torque figures. It would be interesting to look at the dyno curve because I would suspect the 5L makes those power numbers higher in the rpm bands then the hemi. Either way it's 400 hp engine it's not slow lol

I was concerned about that when I got got my 22 but to tell you the truth I don’t even notice it. The only sign I see it’s working is when cruising the mileage jumps up near 30 mpg and when you are on it it is in the high single digits. My average is reading 16 but I only have 1,000 mile on the truck. My 15 got consistent 18 to 19 mpg.

Have a 2021 5.0 and towing from a 7500 pound travel trailer from a dead stop 🛑 isn’t as fun as it was with my 2018 2.7 f-150 eco boost. That being said I get anywhere from 20-22 mpg on the 5.0 vs 23mpg on the 2.7 and you can’t beat the sound of the coyote engine especially with a true dual setup 😂

This is a comedy channel? No idea what kpl means to mpg... But my 2013 with 141,000 miles and 3.55 rear gets a WHOPPING 15.7 mpg over all since day one. If that's "sneaky efficient" I need a new dictionary.. You out ran a type R.. 😂😂😂😂 not on any day.. unless it's snowing. My stock Focus ST smokes that truck.. Reliable, durable, no major problems yes.. fast? No way.

The 5.7 doesn’t have any more tq down low at all🤦‍♂️ What you are feeling is a gear difference. Most rams with the 5.7 come with a 3.92 rear gear ratio and the ford usually comes with a 3.31 rear gear ratio. And sometimes they even have the 3.15 gear. My 22 5.0 Fx4 has the 3.73 and there is nothing about the 5.7 that even remotely comes close to its power at any rpm at any given time.
