My 1999 Ford ranger has over 200,000 miles and has never given me any problems except for blowing out the rear end pulling out a full size f150 from a mud hole. But I was successful lol. I guess I got a good one. By the way it has no rust and still looks almost new.

2011 Ford Ranger 2.3l 4cyl 2wd = UNSTOPPABLE!!!! I have had her for over 5 years now and she only had 78,000 when I got her. She now has 209,xxx on the dash and is running as smooth as can be. Wheel bearings, ball joints, brakes, spark plugs and wires are literally all I have HAD to replace on this truck. 5 out of 5 stars for me!!!

Prior to our 11 Ranger we owned a 88 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with the bullet proof 2.3L and a 5spd stick. We drove it Everywhere! It was super reliable. The electrical system fried on it at 307K miles. It still wasn’t burning any oil. We did have to replace the front hubs at 230K miles, but we had to use the 4WD often during Montana winters. The 2.3L was the most durable engine Ford ever produced. It’s now in the New Ranger’s, but it’s been turbocharged so it’s not as durable or reliable.

I wouldn't mind getting another old 4.0 V6 4x4 Ranger Supercab...Never been keen on the vacuum actuated front hubs, nor the "shift on the fly" transfer case mechanism, but I've only seen one from 1994 (an STX with a manual transmission) that had manual hubs and stick-enabled transfer on that particular generation, and it sure WASN'T mine! I wouldn't choose any from between the 1993-2003 model years now, however... The ones available for sale are usually high mileage and will require a shitload of work... The ones in decent condition and kept up with proper maintenance are still very much held onto by their respective owners...

I had a 2004 4x4 xlt supercab with the 4.0 V6 and a 5 speed manual. I put about 200k miles on it the 15 years I owned it and it was a great little truck! My only complaint was that the rear drum brakes were problematic the last several years, seemed like after 100k once a year I'd have to replace springs or just pull it all apart and clean them up to keep everything working properly. The parking brake liked to stick on cold mornings when I'd let my truck warm up too. Just recently traded in the '04 for a 2020 Lariat and so far I love the new Ranger!

We own a 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with a 4.0L V6, 5spd auto transmission, LDS, tow pkg, LineX spray in bed liner, air shocks on the rear, custom 2 tone paint (silver over red metallic) with custom interior colors to match the exterior paint colors, custom wheels, running boards, skid plates (though I’ve never taken it off roading). After installing a K&N intake and a FlowMaster exhaust, I now get 23mpg on the freeway with the cruise set on 75mph. I change the oil every 4K miles with Mobile 1 full synthetic and change the front and rear differential, transfer case and a transmission flush every 30K miles, (like I do on all our vehicles). This is our 4th Ranger and is as reliable and durable as the other 3. It’s only used for work around our property and if we have to drive it to get something from our family farm in MT, (600 miles 1 way). It does everything we need it to do. I have Cooper Discoverer A/T tires that I use year round. It’s almost 12 years old now but only has 35K miles. Our nephew who lives in MT has 240K on his Ranger with the same power train as ours and has been asking us to sell our Ranger to him. I guess the family can fight over it after we’re dead and gone.

My '99 had a pin fall out in the shift forks while it was under warranty. The timing belt broke around 250k, and the crank angle sensor failed around 200k. I drove my 01 ranger months without coolant (I thought the thermostat was just busted) even drove it from NE Ohio to Chicago without coolent and back. Ended up resealing it with some stuff from autozone after it cracked. Still ran like a stock car. After a pregnancy scare I swapped it out for a 03 f150. Still reliable, but don't got the soul of a 3rd gen ranger.

Bought my 2004 XLT FX4 in 2019 with 62k miles on it. I'm at 120k miles now, I've had to replace the serpentine belt, thermostat, headliner, and the exhaust as it had rusted out. Beyond that my only real problems with it is that as a guy who is 6' 2" I really have to fold myself up to fit inside, the ride can be a bit rough, the seats offer very little in the way of support, and it's quite thirsty for a small truck. That said it handles snow like a champ - I've seen full size trucks stuck in drifts or sliding around and eating the curb during Colorado winters, but my Ranger just bounds right through and over the snow.

I'm going to preface this by stating that I don't even own a Ranger. Never have. I wouldn't have the "new" version either because it's already old in the rest of the world. All that aside, I have driven/drove several Rangers and they are balls on reliable. Also, if you're in the market for a 20 year old Ranger, what are you expecting? Perfection? Even the newest of the last generation is hitting a decade old. Also, I would never base a vehicle purchase on the advice of average Joe's on a car complaint website and Consumer Reports. They are shills. EVERY vehicle has its quirks and problems. The 4.0 engine in the old Ranger is as reliable as it gets. I'm not seeing the purpose of this video, except to rail for four minutes on the older Rangers.

The Ranger is a better truck than the Colorado & Tacoma in terms of features & engine by my opinion. Drove all three & the Tacoma’s seating position is absolutely horrid; felt like I was sitting on the floor - maybe suitable for short people, but I’m average height & could not get comfortable. The Chevy is a notch better with the response on the V6 & available diesel, but only the ZR2 version looks decent. The Ranger brings an interior that’s a full generation ahead of the competition. Toyota continues to ride the quality myth for its sales.

SO, in '99 morale stunk and they build a crappy Ranger, in 2000 they got it right, but they got it wrong again in 2001....I think I'll skip the new Bronco until the used ones start averaging 100K miles and we will see.

I wouldn't buy any of the recent Turbo charged GDI Ford's used. If past owners ran them 10,000 miles between oil changes the timing chains will be shot. Buy new, change oil every 4,000 to 5,000 miles, unless you can find one with verifiable maintenance.

I will miss the heck out of her rear sidestep- which this KZbinr showed us. Another tall tale sign of 2001 is the front curves. How do you get your own mechanic to look over a vehicle? How do you get the present owner to let you take it to your mechanic?
@ChrisfromGeorgia
@ChrisfromGeorgia 4 жыл бұрын
If it's a 1996 or newer vehicle, purchase an OBD2 scanner. You can get a decent one for less than $50. Just plug it into the vehicles port and it will give you a readout of the most common issues if they're any. Other than that, use common sense and always remember to shop around. There are millions of used vehicles out there waiting to be sold.
@johnranger293
@johnranger293 4 жыл бұрын
I recommend and this goes for any used vehicle purchase: 1) As a condition of sale the seller agrees to let your mechanic inspect the vehicle. If seller refuses, it might be a good idea to pass on this one. 2) If seller agrees, make an appointment with your mechanic to evaluate and inspect and take the seller with you. This gives you and the seller an opportunity to see if there are any problems and helps with the negotiations. Hope this helps.

Its just his opinion, his review have nothing to day for others, not all Ford Rangers has his problems, the main title is a bad title. Why say: Dont buy it used? I can garantee you that 80% of the Rangers is good to buy used.
