Forester XT Timing Belt Replacement and Ice Drifting

In this episode of Dirtcheapdaily, Matt, Aaron, and Paul put a new timing belt and radiator in the Soggy Fozzy and then take it out on a frozen lake to test out its drifting capabilities!

Gotta say WOW! To bring a car that was so severely flooded back to life is almost mind boggling. Tip for the trans, break down and take it to a shop that offers a T-Tech service, it replaces ALL of the old trans fluid with new, even the TC.

Good stuff guys! Love the forester XT. I think you guys should make it a sleeper Forester STI next. I have a 2004 XT automatic and put a VF39 turbo, STI intercooler and COBB downpipe on it. Left the exhuast from the downpipe back stock for a super sleeper look and feel and it's been an absolute blast and is surprisingly fast. It snowed recently here in Seattle and has been a ton of fun.

subarus actually don't have a harmonic balancer, that pulley has no dampening capabilities (there is a writeup on nasioc) that pulley has the very important job of holding the crankshaft sprocket on the crankshaft before i had a garage to do bigger jobs on vehicles, i took my 99 outback (5-spd) to a mechanic because the front pulley had a wobble, they replaced the pulley but neglected to properly tighten it! it came off and destroyed the sprocket and the brand new pulley....bought a racing front pulley and a new sprocket and timing belt.........it lasted 10,000 miles before the engine spun a bearing

what they are doing is basically locking the center diff if you want a real 50/50 torque bias look for a 04 forester LL bean edition and grab its TCU...

Before you do too much like that, I think it would be a good idea to underseal it, and get some corrosion protect especially driving in icy conditions. Salt will kill it otherwise.

Never had to tighten that pulley so much and it has never do anything stupid, maybe luck.

It tightens itself over time when the engine runs, but should still be properly torqued.

+David Hickey he's had those 4 pots sitting on a shelf forever so we didn't factor that in. You could have just as much fun without the brake upgrade.
