The problem with modern football fans is that they think football started in the late 20th century or like early 21st century. But the truth is these skill moves were being done by players long before even Pele was born. There are videos of Matthias Sindelar doing step-overs way back in the 1920s. Leonias da Silva, Jose Manuel Moreno, Giuseppe Meazza, Stanley Matthews were also very influential dribblers. And I am sure there are probably many footballers even before doing such incredible moves.# Football is a very old sport.

People focus on the trickery and dribbles. but i think what made him gr8 was actually muscle power. i never can understand why he could not sign top clubs, where was Man U. , Barca , Milano ? Only explonation is Africans were not respected like todays balotellis and saka's.

I'm a Nigerian. He was good, but he wasn't that good. He didn't have enough end product. He dribbled a lot and was super entertaining, but at times he overdid it and held onto the ball for too long. PSG was a pretty big club in the 1990s and he went there but didn't really perform to the best of his ability. I've always pointed go another Nigerian, Kanu Nwankwo, as an example of what Okocha had and what Okocha lacked. Kanu was absurdly skillful as well, but not as skillful as Okocha. But he had better end product and better decision making. It is why Kanu ended up playing for clubs like Ajax, Inter and Arsenal and win African Footballer of the Year, while Okocha played for Fenerbahce, PSG and Bolton and was never named African Footballer of the Year.
@jighaman01
@jighaman01 Жыл бұрын
@@brianduru3753 As a Nigerian, I completely disagree with you. As a player, there are many factors that affect whether you play for the bigger teams or not. Your football trajectory, age, support team, agent, football decisions and above all luck (especially for African players at that time). Kanu's exposure and final transfer to Arsenal played a major part in his exposure because of premier league. When Okocha was in Bundesliga, only the big teams in Germany had a lot of exposure. When you compare the total number of goals by Kanu (a striker) for both club and country with that of Okocha (a midfielder), they are almost identical. So, that negates your assertion that his end product was not good.

So just you know, before Okocha there were hundreds of Brazilians players doing it. Pelé back in the 60's was doing it. So you should go out more. Ronaldinho and Neymar come from a very long line of players like that in Brazil. Djalminha, Raí, Denilson, Clodoaldo, Tostão, Garrincha, Pelé, Didi, Edmundo, Edilson, Ilsinho, Cafú, Giovanni, Rivaldo, etc... I could go on for a long time.

People in Jamaica that were older than Okocha were doing EVERYONE of those moves when I was a child. That includes the Okocha step over. Before Okocha was old enough to play, it was called TAPAZUKI style in Jamaica...in 98 world cup, the player from Jamaica named Tappa Whitmore got that name Tappa because he loved doing it. And the flip overhead was called COSMO STYLE, taken from a trick that PELE LOVED TO DO. Actually, Pele was before Okocha. Okocha is a great street footballer and tricky too...but so too were so many others who had results to back it up. I would not forget Ronaldino because of Okocha though, for Ronaldino was even more skillful, more ACCURATE (PINPOINT ACCURACY, INCLUDING WITH DEADBALL SITUATIONS), more EFFICIENT, MORE SUCCESSFUL IN HIS MOVES (SOMETHING COMES OUT OF IT) Ronaldinho's achievements are always because of his skills. He won wherever he went. Even if the team was not winning, just because he was so good, he made it win. He had awards and medals coming out of his ass. He was so good that opposing teams' fans cheered for him. How then can JJ Okocha compare??? There was no skill that Okocha did that Dhino did not do better and turn into success - goals, victory and medals. And YES! Dhino could make a very good street footballer too. In fact, just watching him juggling the ball was worth the fan's money...especially him playing with the cross bar. Hitting it, waiting for the ball to come back and hitting it again consistently - FROM A MILE AWAY! This was magic that I have not seen ANY GREAT PLAYER do to this day...but you say forget Ronaldinho for Okocha. What did Okocha do beside a few tricks that so many other players did? You think Okocha did tricks? It's because most of the tracks with Pele are not shown...you would see something!

Players can do a lot of fancy footworks without being effective. I doubt that there is any high profile games of Okocha that I never watched. I am simply not going to be dishonest about his value. Tell me about the underrated legends like Didier or Eto. I almost stopped watching football when Didier retired. I don't care if he was sick on the day - He never made me lose a bet. It is quite clear and well known that to maintain the status quo, every great thing from the African continent is suppressed and grossly understated or tainted. This has been the narrative and agenda ever since a certain race of people invented Racism then exported it across the globe. There is not one European footballer I can think of past or present with the dribbling skills or art as Jay Jay besides George Best and Johan Cruyff both talented ball handlers . Yes Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho Gaucho, Ronaldo Nazario are all equally great on the ball and are all from SA, yet the vast majority of global footballing awards goes to the European continent. When it comes to raw dribbling prowess even some of the past "legendary" greats like Maradona or Pele (rest their souls) have acknowledge the skills of Jay Jay. So while we cant "forget" Ronaldinho, Okocha is definitely one of the master dribblers.

Comparing JJ and R9. Midfielder and a number 9. R9 is my goat but your comparison is stupid. Nobody asked you. And this post is not about the greatest striker of all time.

I just told you R9 is my favorite footballer of all time. Don't you understand English ? But this post is about okocha stop bringing up stupid comparison. How is R9 a topic in okocha's video ? Think. Use your fxkin brain.

Nigeria 🇳🇬 In FIFA video games 🎮 back then could beat any team and it was 90% because of him! What more needs to be said?? Wish City would’ve signed him though! Imagine Anelka, Robbie Fowler, Wright-Phillips and Okocha attacking your goalie 🔥 sick 🤒
