Mostly fabricating. He didn't even forge the blade. Just shaped it. Start with an ingot heat it hammer it out fold it then shape it. He used store bought material and made nothing from scratch. To all those about to comment saying yes he did. No he bought sheet metal and shaped it. That's what fabricators do. A real blacksmith could take raw iron and "forge" it into a blade. Not just take an already forged piece of steel then cut grind and file it till it resembles a real blade. The difference between a wall hanger and a real weapon

Dear craftsmen, could you share some data of your creation with us (weight, point of balance, total length etc.) I really appreciate the optic you are going for, but judging from the 'cutting test' it seems quiete a heavy beast. From the point of a historical fencer, i know the naginata as a nimble and fast weapon.
@aximuaierken971422 күн бұрын
Oh my god, no. The Naginata is heavy, a literal armor-breaker. Meant to deal hard, but slow damage. It is definitely not a nimble weapon

What you’ve created is more like a Kikuchi Yari/Spear vs. a Naginata. I’m basing this strictly on the blades shape & not in regards to it’s smith work, which is a completely different matter. The process than what you’ve taken in smithing is not how authentic Naginata are made. The forge folding process of creating Shinken, Naginata, & Yari, in addition to many other bladed weapons in Japan is not only smithwork, but, uses high carbon ingots of Tamahagane adding various heat treatments, while folding in various secret elements to achieve proper hardening & flexibility. Another aspect generally overlooked by smiths unfamiliar with Japanese metalwork in weaponry & more importantly is the fact that it’s a spiritual practice & highly secretive, usually being performed not onky fully by handcraft but also by a Shinto Priest & number of apprentices. In sharing this I’m not attempting to criticize your efforts, rather, attempting to familiarize you with a different art form. Even though it looks like a lot of hard work went into it’s creation it truly is missing many of the subtle design features that make a naginata what it is… Having practiced with a naginata in Kenjutsu training, IMHO, it looks as though it’s missing the proper balance as it has a shorter than normal & thicker than normal staff/handle. It’s also missing the forge folded & curved blade that can flex slightly without breaking. It’s also missing a clay hardened razor sharp edge (hamon). In any case I urge you to look into traditional Japanese Weapon forging processes if you’re planning to pursue bugei weapons making.
