Our 1st Battalion, 4th Marines Operation Iraqi Freedom reunion is coming up quick at the beginning of August. We've got a lot of things planned to honor our fallen warriors from our 1st deployment in 2003 during the initial Iraq invasion, and our subsequent deployment in 2004 which saw our Battalion leading the fight hooking and jabbing against the Mahdi Army in the Battle of Najaf. UCP may hold its pattern under IR but the base pattern itself is worse than 60 year old Soviet KLMK pajama suits that just flip inside out for night ops. UCP is still pretty flat looking on gen3+ tubes especially under illumination.

@JohnDoe-mp1yn Multicam black is one of the worst in NIR compliance. UCP was designed specifically to work under night vision. Multicam black was designed to stand out under night vision.

@@southern842 MultiCam Black doesn't use an actual black color, it uses really dark browns and blues. i personally saw it working really well when i took up a nighttime class. the guy who wore it wasn't joking when he said MultiCam Black is better under NODs than it being in the sun, so that's why he has a spare set of cammies in the pattern that he keeps in his rucksack.

To be honest, the only reason i can spot you in this vid is by looking for your silhouette in the limited field of view. In person walking through the woods, you would be much harder to spot. this camo blends really well.

I swear to god, that stuff was cooked up on some uncalibrated TFT monitor, and by the time someone figured it out the project was too far along and no one wanted to say anything because it would've been career seppuku. Who the hell put that much blue in it?!

@@hoilst265There's no blue in UCP, mostly a sort of light olive green that doesn't really exist in nature. I guess they thought it was good for urban warfare, since US forces didn't fight much in the wild. The USMC also tested urban camouflage and rejected it. It's possible that the US army wanted an urban camo to distinguish itself from the USMC.

Seeing this kind of reminds me of something I've been looking into myself, camouflage that doesn't look like camouflage. I always wondered how more everyday clothing like plaid, flannel and Hawaiian shirts in earthy tones would do in the wild while not making you stick out in day to day life like actual camo would.

So, I turned up the brightness on my 2k resolution 9.7" tablet screen and was able to spot "not quite right" shapes in 2, 3, 5, 8 (super easy), and 9. Didn't think to pause for 1 before you moved, so mulligan, and threw out 4 because you were completely concealed behind vegetation. 6, 7, and 10 were all in deep shadow, so wasn't really a test of the camo, but you did stay hidden.
