Guys, it was so nice to hear you guys talking about these panics attacks. I’ve suffered these in the gym for years now so Paul has my utmost sympathy mate, mainly on the big compound lifts like squats or deads and such like where I’m blowing hard. It’s the absolute scariest loneliest feeling ever no matter how much I can rationalise it when I’m normal and calm. At times I’ve had to actually flee the gym and get in my car and just drive until I eventually distract myself and calm down. I have one gym buddy I train with who I trust (literally with my life) to be around during those moments…just knowing he knows the situation and remains calm, is often enough to pull me from the brink although once it’s in my head it’s difficult to completely fight off for the rest of the session and beyond…It’s a permanent daily battle at the moment and is not fun to live with at all. You are dead right in your thinking though I’d say Fouad…in that it is mainly a mental issue…and Funnily enough, I’ve just last week started doing some fitness/HIIT work with a very understand coach once a week to a) help with health and fitness first and foremost to help that breathing aspect but also b) exactly as you say, practice getting myself comfortable in feeling uncomfortable and breathless. Something Dr Scott Stevenson has talked about before. For me it’s about getting confident and knowing the main premise of my issue is purely mental and an irrational fear of not being able to breath when of course I can breath, and if I can’t then the worst case is I’ll pass out, my body will regulate itself and I’ll wake up fine…it knowing it’s ok, I’m safe, I will be fine and i will get it under control. But for sure, scary as hell…wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy and given Paul my best for when he goes through it🙏Positive energies of health and happiness to you guys.

It’s called EPOC. Exercise post oxygen consumption. There’s a big oxygen deficit from the amount of O2 used by the tissues initially. It’s like when you start sprinting you’re fine for a second. And then after you feel like you’re dying, it’s because your body needs to reach the O2 balance. It feels as if you’re breathing heavily but you can’t catch your breath. It’s honestly a bit terrifying.

I'm sure maybe you guys have known already but L-Theanine helps me a ton with anxiety and i find if i take it during the morning before a lift, it can really help prevent my panic attacks in the gym. I just focus more on breathing obviously but the L-Theanine has really been a game changer for me. The half life of it is about 6 hours for the standard nature's valley brand type. Could maybe help Jamie! (also i should add that i went to the doctor about this before hand and that's why I found the L-Theanine in the first place as it was recommended to me)

I love what you guys said about: what categorizes you as a “BODYBUILDER”. I seriously struggle mentally with this. I think it’s because I don’t want the attention or the attitude that people might have towards me or guys like me. I have done 2 shows last year and I just told my family & friends that I was training for a fitness competition 😂, because I didn’t want to come across as arrogant or cocky or whatever, because a lot people I know think that it’s dumb and a waste of time, but DAMN IT I LOVE IT!! I have been training hard and consistent for about 10 years now, & through out it all I never considered myself a “BODYBUILDER” & only because I never felt that I was on that (your guy’s) level, if you know what I mean. Like, I think of a BODYBUILDER as the guy’s that have their pro cards or that make money at it, when in reality I have been living the lifestyle for 10 years and never labeled myself as a BODYBUILDER. When I think of a Bodybuilder I instantly think about you guys, Ronnie, Jay, Dorian, Kevin, Phil, Ramy… the guys that make time stand still when they walk into room! I don’t know if I’m trying to be too humble about or if I just have Shit confidence, but either way I guess I should look at myself as more of a BODYBUILDER. I love the podcast btw ✊🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There is a thing called footstrike haemolysis which is where the skinny meat on the heels of the foot mulches up red blood cells and reduces hematocrit. This is very common in endurance athletes. You won't get it from kettlebells or the bike, but liss on the treadmill can do it.

No guy… what’s up UK crew Great cast Fouad, very grateful. Tell Paul and anyone else who deals with anxiety or panic attacks it only gets easier with time, also knowing you’re not going to die take a couple minutes and control your breathing. Tell yourself to tell anxiety to fuck right off and stand tall. This is what I’ve done when losing 80% of my vision I never had panic attacks before, and I haven’t had a panic attack in 4 years. I didn’t want to take prescriptions I use cannabis and weightlifting as my therapy. Stay strong and stand tall and most of all fear nothing.

im the exact opposite when it comes to the whole gym interaction, I am currently saving up to be able to afford some good quality home gym equipment so I can train completely alone. I try and time my gym sessions when the gym will be quietest
