The Witche's envy factor kicked in whilst Subaru cheated his way into talking about return by death. She is jealous that Subaru shared a secret that was suppose to be between him and her. After all, her curse on Subaru is only possible with love...and the envy that plagues it. There's probably some reason why return by death is the ability envy can provide, but still wondering on that.

I think it is because that ability, while awesome, is not something to be envied. She has nothing, but with that power she can have everything. Moreover, Subaru is able to absorb the witch factor of sloth, so I would imagine that the envy factor also comes with the bonus of gaining the factors of the other witches.

I think its two souls in one vessel. Satella might have been envious of Emilia and Subaru, so she took her as a vessel to appear as the same exact "beauty" subaru is always with. The distinction being their personalities, and that Satella is way more... "cruel" and protects by domination, and Emilia is way more "passive" and kind and protects by supporting Subaru. I don't really watch the anime, or read the novels but I might start because it seems to be getting interesting. But given their appearances I feel like Emilia's body hosts Satella and her soul (maybe it's part of how Satella keeps an eye on Subaru during each respawn?) I also feel like there's something about Emilia and Echidna though.

1:01 To counter that, No he does not have a limit on how much he dies at a certain checkpoint. In the Ayamatsu IF (Pride IF),he actually died about 100+ times in the capital checkpoint and there wasn't really any side effects with the return by death power. But however, this did put a toll on his sanity. Since in that alternative story, he didn't call Reinhart for help. One notable thing tho is that he actually permanently dies at the end of the IF story, after causing havoc in Lagunaca. He was finally able to die after "securing" Emilia's victory in the royal selection.

Again when the animate the witches tea party you’ll see. SATELLA loves suburu purely, and wants him to care about himself and think of the people he is leaving behind when he dies. She wants him not to hurt and not to cry. The witch of envy personality is those same feelings but amplified. The reason she appeared was because he told echidna about the return by death. Also she is envious of anyone suburu loves and wants to protect. Satella is actually a super good girl. Which you’ll end up seeing. All the witches care about suburu in their own way. And the reason satella has another personality called the witch of envy is because she took in witch factors that did not agree with her body and it was too much. Another misconception is that it was the witch of envy who devoured half the world before being sealed and who killed all the witches. When it was actually satella.

I haven't read the anime, but isn't obvious from the first episode of the series that Emilia is in fact Satella, the With of Envy? There's two obvious hints at this in the first episode on Subaru's first life: After discussing the fact that Subaru has no money, knowledge of his location, or memory of how he ended up there, he says "aren't all elves beautiful, after all?" and Emilia becomes flustered and responds with her name, "Satella". You could look at this as though she was testing the truth of his statements or that she was being careful about revealing herself, but I think the simpler answer is that she hasn't been honest about herself in years and saw it as an opportunity to be honest with someone who wouldn't judge her. Puck then says "You have terrible taste" implying that she has feelings for Subaru and being honest about her identity is a way to show that. Now if you skip ahead to Subaru's first death - you will see that as he and Emilia are laying on the floor dying, her hand is in the moonlight and he reaches out for it. The imagery is a big hint when you consider every time the power activates you see the witch's hand. This explains all of it. It explains why Emilia can't face her path (she's in denial about committing the atrocities from 400 years ago). It explains why Subaru is loved by the witch (his first impression of her was that she was beautiful). It explains how he gets the blessing from the witch (they're both dying and she puts her faith in him). It explains why Puck's contract includes destroying the world if Emilia dies. i have a crazy theory about Satella and why she is so obsessed with Subaru ok so then as we all know Satella loves Subaru because she said he gave her a reason to live, loved her etc... however Subaru himself doesn't know this he has NO idea who is Satella and he has never met her before BUT this where the theory gets crazy what IF Subaru was actually part of the "other" world and and met Satella, (perhaps she was on the brink of death or something then saved her ) and gave her everything love showed her the light and gave her a reason to live, but then something happened to Subaru either he was killed (could be people were after Satella cuz she was a witch but Subaru protected her therefore they could have burn him alive or something to get to know where he was keeping Satella) then when Satella found out about this she went on a rampage consuming everyone knowing that "the person she loved" died and couldn't do anything to save him, therefore in order to do something she went and consume the other witches to gain power and then later she made Subaru reincarnate into another world (which is japan) until eventually she was trying to find him and at last she did which she summoned him and as u know since Subaru was summoned all of a sudden he had return by death "i wont let u ever die again" is what she must have been thinking but then agian this is only a theory tho i myself am curious about this as well "why does Satella loves Subaru so much", "how did he actually got return by death", "why she doesn't want him to tell anyone" (actually i think i have a theory for that as well) and lastly "how tf is she Emilia's mom" what IF the Subaru from 400 yrs ago and Satella had a child which is Emilia since she's a half elf make sense y'know which means Satella was in love with a human giving birth to a half elf, but then again it kinda make sense
